  1. I know that he basically had to say it for comedy's sake, but it bothered me that Rickie said he has never been to Canada. He played in Toronto a couple of years ago. I think it was mainly my distaste for Rickie but that made me kind of mad that he said he hadn't even though we all know he had. But like I said he had to say it for comedy's sake. A great show overall though.
  2. I'm an art student so I've used Macs at school for the last 3 plus years but finally got my own MacBook over break. I run both the Mac OS and Vista on it. I have Microsoft Office on Vista and Adobe CS4 on the Mac. I just switch back and forth depending on what I'm doing. I would suggest the Mac because it's probably going to crap out on you as soon and you get the versatility of running Windows if you want.
  3. Could someone explain how Hall of Fame voting works. Do the writers vote for each player as a yes or no if they get in or not. Or can they only vote for a certain number of guys. Some writers say I voted for this guy and than guy. And another writer will say I voted for these 5. Is there any rationale behind voting?
  4. This is bugging the crap out of me. I'm in the process of applying for jobs, my first real full time, grown up, adult, big boy job. I've applied for four jobs. Three I have never heard anything from and one which seemed to be looking rather promising. This job is the one that I would chose over the rest if offered. So I apply and about two weeks later call to inquire when they would be doing interviews. After calling two days in a row during business hours and getting a voicemail, I get a call back from the person saying that they will be doing interviews next week and someone should call me soon. Well another two weeks go by and I don't hear anything. I go to my inside source on the job and he tells me that they are currently hiring a more important position and they will probably get to mine after the first of the year. Four days later I get a letter in the mail from the company thanking me for my interest in the position and that they have offered the job to someone else and they accepted it. Yes, I'm disappointed that I didn't get the job but I'm mad that I was basically lied to by someone. Either my inside source or the person hiring flat out lied to me. The lack of communication by these people is getting quite frustrating. If I'm not going to be a candidate for the job please tell me so that I can look somewhere else.
  5. What about the moves he didn't make -- good or bad. He didn't sign Carlos Lee to a terrible contract. He didn't sign Cordero to a terrible contract. So far he hasn't traded Cameron for Melky Cabrera. Give up the bank for C.C. All good moves in my opinion. Just things that came off the top of my head. For a team with very limited resources he's done a great job of keeping the team competitive by bringing up the young guys and sprinkling in veterans here and there.
  6. mtrebs - Your idea is the way it should be. Does anyone know what the wording in the CBA is because if it says that signing an A-level free agent means you give up your first round pick (except for top 15) then if you don't have one you shouldn't be able to sign one.
  7. If Melvin give's him a fair offer and no one else gives him an offer how is he overbidding? Say we offer Sheets 1 year and $12 mil. and he says I'll wait for other offers. I think that would give us an idea of what he really is worth. If the Yankees or the Mets come in with a huge offer right away we know we won't want to mess with that and can move on. If no one gives him an offer I think Ben would realize that a 1 year deal to prove he's healthy is probably the best thing for him.
  8. I don't believe that the Red Sox are no longer going to pursue Mark. What really bothers me about this situation is that it tells me that the Sox had no reason to sign him other than because they can. If they really need him I think they would break the bank for him. It seems like their thinking is Mark is a good player that plays a position we have filled (1B/DH) now and with prospects for the future but we can afford anybody so let's get him. I understand clubs need to be financially responsible but it doesn't really seem fair to teams that really could use him but can't afford him. People are getting upset because of the money spent on players but to me the problem is the talent hording. You look at the moves the Yankees have made so far, they at least have filled holes. If the Red Sox were to sign him (or really just about any player) it would be more to keep him from going anywhere else than because they need him and that really bothers me.
  9. I apologize for my complete butchering of the John Lennin/Vladimir Lennin situation. I was at work and didn't have time to fact check. I for the life of me was sure that he was named John like the Beatle but spelled differently. If it is possible to be embarrased by something you do on the internet I am, considering I'm a huge history buff and pretty much used all of my electives in college on history courses.
  10. Couple points here: 1. Peter the Great has been dead for 250+ years. 2. People use the name "Peter", but I don't see many people named "Peter the Great Smith", or the equivalent. 3. The parents, in this case, didn't name their child "Adolf Smith", they went with "Adolf Hitler Smith", and also insisted on putting the child's entire name on the cake. My cake always said "Happy Birthday First", not "Happy Birthday First Middle Last". This was done to draw attention to their cause. Also, I don't believe "Aryan Nation" is a name for a single human being. I was just trying to provide a counter-point and I agree with your 3rd statement. They didn't just name him Adolf. It was Adolf Hiter Campbell. If it was just that one child it would be one thing but because of the other two it's clear that these parents are clearly off their rocker or just looking for attention. As for my historical accurateness about John Lennin, I knew it was Lennin or Stalin. I just didn't have time to look it up.
  11. I don't think they are hate filled white supremacists. I think they gave them the names to show people that we need to move on from bad things that happened in the past. Whether that is the truth or not it's an interesting idea. Not something I would do or advocate but interesting none the less. I could see people like them in the future naming their children Osama or Suddam. What about children who are named John or Peter. John Lennin killed 1000's of people and, I think it was, Peter the Great also slaughtered 1000's of his own people. No one is making a big deal about that.
  12. I know Peavy hasn't approved a trade to come here but might this be a way to clear some payroll to aquire Peavy because Melvin has a deal in place for him?
  13. Why do we have to trade him to the Yankees? There have to be other teams interested in Cameron.
  14. It makes more sense for Cash to try and force him in there. It probably went down like this: BC: So you're looking for a pitcher in return if you pay for some of Cameron's contract? DM: Yup. BC: Well... we'll give you Igawa. I'll send the paperwork to Bud. DM: But I didn't agree to anything. BC: You don't have to. We're the Yankees. Everyone wants what we have and they take it when we offer it. DM: I don't. BC: You have to. I think you can fill in the rest.
  15. MLBTradeRumors.com says we are asking about Kei Igawa. If that is true I think Doug is just crank calling Cashman because of the CC situation. It's good we have a GM who has a sense of humor about him.
  16. Hammer - the start a dream thing is what I do and it works almost 100% of the time. What usually keeps me up is my sinuses. I usually can only breath out of half of my nose which makes it tough to fall asleep so I keep switching sides to drain them. I've tried sleep on my back and that clears up the sinus problem but some reason I can't breath well when I sleep on my back.
  17. I've always felt that my body doesn't like to sleep and has done its best to keep me from getting good sleep. I used to lay in bed for an hour or more before finally falling asleep no matter how tired I was but now I have found ways to trick my body into sleeping. I do my best to get 8 or so hours of sleep every night but I'm usually pretty tired during the day no matter how much sleep I get. I have coffee occasionally but I refuse to ever have an energy drink as I'm sure those will give you a heart attack eventually. It took about 6 years of learning and experimenting before I finally found what makes my body sleep and I'm sure others are having similar problems. Feel free to share any sleep tricks that work for you or links to sleep articles. I think it would be great to pool our collective sleep knowledge.
  18. My story starts about 2 months ago. I have an HP laptop running Windows XP. I have had it for a little over 2 years now and I have hardly any problems with it. About 2 months ago it started to pause. Not freeze, but just like pause for a second and then keep working. It really only affected the sound as the sound would stop or sometimes slow way down, it never skipped, it was like it was playing in slow motion. I checked the taskmanager and the CPU usuage was going anywhere from 30% to 50% sometimes higher. I googled every process that was running and they all checked out as legit. While this was annoying it wasn't really a big deal to me. Eventually my internet connection seemed to slow as well and sometimes it just disconnects me for no reason or just won't connect. I still have dial-up (I know, get with the 21st century) so I thought this may just be the crapiness that is dail-up coming through, but once again not a huge problem for me as the speed seems to be back but sometimes I'm disconnected or can't connect at all. After dealing with these little problems I thought I would do a checkdisk last weekend. I have done a virus scan and spyware scan and nothing ever came up so I thought this might do the trick. Well after taking about 15 hours for that to finish things got worse. When the system rebooted I got an error message that DrWatsonDebugger was not responding and has to close. After that nothing happened. All of the items were on my desktop but I cannot click on them. When I try to click on the start bar the cursor is the hourglass and I can't do anything. When I restart in safemode everything seems to work fine. Now when I try to start in normally I keep getting a message that windows explorer needs to close. It does but then it opens back up again, and closes again and the loop continues. It seems like some program is conflicting with explorer. How can I figure this out. The only program I have installed in the last couple of months was Firefox about a month ago. Any help here please?
  19. From reading about the Three World Wars conspiracy it seems the Illuminati want to control the world in a Satanic Theocracy. WWIII is suppose to cause people to renounce Christianity, Islam, and Judaism and they will then turn to Satanism. I find this kind of surprising since aren't the Freemasons, who I believe play a big role in the Illuminati a christian group? They are so many great conspiracy's but I would love to know if the Illuminati do exist. If they do, I don't think they are the crazy Satanists that the WWIII theory supposes.
  20. I was at that game too. I must have been sitting about 10 rows behind where that shot was taken from. We couldn't even see what happened. I saw the ball off the bat and figured it was a homerun. Then I saw Kapler throwing the ball back in. I thought he caught it at the wall. It wasn't until the replay board showed it that I knew the greatness that was that catch.
  21. It's Willy Aybar. He was a pretty big prospect with the Braves if I recall correctly and had some personal issues (drunk driving maybe) so they traded him. This isn't really a Rays team full of no names. The pitching yes, but offensively it seems to be a bunch of guys who have finally figured it out. Between Carlos Pena, Willy Aybar, Eric Hinske, Dionar Navarro, and Jason Bartlett they have a lot of other teams failed prospects that have gotten really good in Tampa.
  22. So their prices will be frozen then? If I'm not able to do it right away and I don't sell them right away their prices won't change?
  23. Could someone with some protrade experience explain how earnings days work? Do we have to sell our players or are they automatically sold. A little help is appreciated. Thanks!
  24. If they we don't resign either of them we will have some money to work with but probably should hold on to it. I don't think there's much we can do in free agency without being ridiculous. If we can keep CC, yay! I we can keep Sheets, yippee! If we can keep both, yippee yay! Either way I think Fielder needs to be gone this off season. Not because of what he will cost in the bank but what he will cost in the field. Either way we need to keep Hardy too. My off-season plan isn't dependant on what happens with CC or Sheets. It depends on what we can get for Fielder. EDIT: Finally hit 100 posts! Only took about 3 years. DOUBLE EDIT: Actually 4 years. I'm such a loser that I only post 25 times a year.
