Really good comparison. Molitor had a great season with the bat, and Listach came out of nowhere to be a star after Spiers went down early. Otherwise it was a bunch of guys who knew their roles and played them very well. Greg Vaughn led the teams with only 23 HRs, and Molitor was the only one with an OPS over .800. But everyone on that team stole bases. It was a smart, veteran team with guys like Kevin Seitzer and Scotty Fletcher complementing Yount, Molitor and Gumby.
The pitching was just phenomenal. The four main starters all stayed healthy all year, but they struggled to find a solid 5th after Ron Robinson got hurt (messing with Bruce Ruffin and Dan Plesac serving as openers way before the fad took off). Then Cal Eldred showed up in the second half and was basically unhittable. The pen was also lights out with the aforementioned Henry, Holmes and Fetters, along with Jesse Orosco and James Austin, who came out of absolute nowhere to be a shutdown late-inning guy, only to wash out a year later.
That pennant race with the Blue Jays was must-see TV.
