  1. An incredible man who had an unbelievable impact on not only this franchise but the game as a whole. We all knew in the back of our minds that this day was coming, but that never stopped us from hoping Ueck would live forever. I truly feel like a piece of my childhood is gone.
  2. If he is a regular in that lineup, I don't have much doubt that he'll hit 30+ HRs. But also struggle to bat .200 and threaten Mark Reynolds' single-season K record.
  3. Obviously it's impossible to determine whether he is an upgrade over Durbin until we actually see Durbin at the ML level. I think I'd rather roll with the youngsters in that role than go with someone like Iglesias. Maybe trade for someone like him at the deadline if they need a steadying influence down the stretch.
  4. But a ton of speed, which seems to be the direction they are trying to head as an offense. I would expect Chourio to make a jump in the power department, a healthy Yelich certainly brings power, and Hoskins and Contreras bring solid power to the lineup as well. Mitchell has untapped power potential as well. So it isn't like the perceived lineup is devoid of power. Also, it is important to remember that its Jan. 7, and we still have over a month before pitchers and catchers even report to Arizona.
  5. Yelich was arguably the best hitter in the lineup before going down last season. There's a reason he was an All-Star Game starter. Sure, there is a potential for decline, and the injury chance is always prevalent, but a healthy Yelich is still a top-notch MLB hitter.
  6. Yes, he'd probably be ok numbers-wise. And there was a time teams would employ him despite the known locker room cancer reputation. But that was back when he was putting up Cy Young-level numbers. He's simply not that pitcher anymore, and teams aren't willing to put up with his dickishness in return for what he'd provide.
  7. I think the only phrase that should accompany this thread title is "isn't going anywhere" *lockthread
  8. Methinks that ship has sailed
  9. The Brewers aren't moving a 24-year-old who just won a Gold Glove to 4th OF. Come on.
  10. You mention Black as a possible swap. If Baty's defense is rough and his bat iffy, what would be the point of swapping Black for him then? Black has those same issues.
  11. But that doesn't fit the "this team sucks" and the "front office is stupid" narrative!
  12. It isn't nothing, but it's also difficult to factor in future value on a deal that isn't signed yet, if ever.
  13. Extending him or not is kind of immaterial to to the conversation, though, IMO. The long and short of it is that they made a deal for a guy with one year of control left.
  14. That was viewed as a terrible trade even then, and quite possible a big reason why the Cubs' window with that team was closed so quickly.
  15. Paredes is a 25-year-old power-hitting 3B who the Cubs just got from the Rays. Cam Smith was their 1st round pick in 2024. Wesneski is a young, hard-throwing reliever with a lot of promise. They gave up a lot.
  16. I think moreso its a bunch of guys with belief in a front office which has made many, many more moves which can be described as "shrewd" than not.
  17. Fried compared to Cortes, against what is probably inferior hitting competition and in more pitcher-friendly stadiums. Fried has more of a track record, obviously, but the two compare pretty favorably. And Fried just signed a MASSIVE deal.
  18. I'm sure the Yankees look at him as an upgrade, but Cortes has very similar career numbers to Max Fried, who just signed the biggest deal ever handed to a left-handed starter.
  19. Frelick, Mitchell, Perkins, Turang and now Durbin. It is obvious that the Brewers love uber-fast athletes. If anything, this is going to be a very exciting team to watch on the basepaths this year. This team will likely challenge the all-time Brewers SB record of 256 set in 1992 (also a very exciting team). For reference, they had 217 in 2024.
  20. Many were upset with the return for Hader as well. Taylor Rogers flopped, Lamet was a nothingburger, but Gasser has shown real talent, and will hopefully make a full recovery from TJ. And of course Ruiz turned into Contreras and Payamps.
  21. Civale will be in the rotation too. Can never have enough quality starting arms. Woody is a huge ???.
  22. Durbin was the breakout player of the year in the Arizona Fall League. Stout, compact middle infielder with pop.
  23. Sounds like Nestor Cortes is part of the return. Solid lefty starter. 30 years old. Two more years of control.
  24. With the knack this franchise has for developing solid, if not spectacular relief pitching, not only am I not surprised, I'm also not overly alarmed.
