  1. The return would hurt for sure, but a proven high-end late game shutdown reliever would make this team more formidable, and hopefully help Ashby get in a better place in less high-pressure situations.
  2. Thank you for the well thought-out response. I actually agree with much of what you are saying here in theory, but it is difficult to put into practice, given the financial parameters the Brewers are forced to operate under. As for doing it when it counts the most, this current iteration of the team hasn't had that opportunity yet. It would certainly be nice to have more proven "clutch performer" types in this lineup, those guys aren't exactly readily available often, and when they do, they demand a premium. The Brewers, instead, need to hope (or maybe even pray) that the Pratts, Laras, and even the Vaughns and Bauers of the world have a little clutch in them.
  3. I would suggest that you cool it with the condescension. Yes, it is obvious that they can't and don't tell the whole story, but of all major sports out there, baseball is the one where stats tell the biggest part of that story.
  4. The Dodgers obviously have money coming out their ears, but that is also an extremely well-run organization. They aren't going to go above the value they've placed on Skubal just to make sure the Brewers don't get him. That isn't the way they operate.
  5. Your first sentence is, literally, "This isn't a reaction to the blowout." Good teams lose games.
  6. Being that he is the whole reason behind Bobby Bonilla Day, it is very difficult for me to take anything Steve Phillips says seriously. He is also widely known for gutting the Mets farm system with overpay trades for Mike Piazza, Al Leiter and Armando Benitez. He did luck himself into David Wright, but that wasn't enough to save his legacy.
  7. Made, Lara, Pena and Ashby? I don't think I'd give up that package for Skenes, much less 3 months of Skubal.
  8. I would imagine there is. The question is whether he has more value to the Brewers than he would another team. Lara or Chourio could handle CF, but Mitchell's bat would be tough to replace.
  9. Yep. D.L. Hall will likely be activated for Friday's game.
  10. Blew out his arm in his next minor league start, and that was that.
  11. He's 19. They have a lot of time to figure that out.
  12. Also easily DFA'able immediately following today's game, unless he defies logic and throws a gem. 40-man options Coleman Crow and Colton Gordon both started for Nashville in a doubleheader on Saturday, so they weren't options. Carlos Rodriguez is on the struggle bus right now.
  13. Hoping this is just an opportunity to limit Drohan's innings, and give Pannone a look-see. Fingers crossed.
  14. Maybe semantics, but Yelich is 34 until December.
  15. Steer is a terrible-fielding 3B. And he's hurt. Also, Mitchell is one of the team's top offensive players this season. No way they deal him for Peralta. Why are we trading from our big league club in a playoff race?
  16. BTV holds about as much legitimacy as Fangraphs ... i.e. pretty much nothing. They lost me years ago when they admitted to going in and adjusting player trade values post trade in order to make their valuation system look more accurate. Their whole schtick is a joke.
  17. I get it. He's a late bloomer. Still ... there are plenty of those types in the history of MLB, and they have not populated the MLB Pipeline Top 100. Of course, most have not worn Dodger Blue either.
  18. You're welcome! Seriously, it isn't your money, so why does it matter? $2 million isn't going to keep the Brewers from going out and making a move in the next week.
  19. Someone needs to explain to me how soon-to-be 28-year-old River Ryan STILL ranks among the top 100 prospects in all of baseball. I mean, at what age can a player no longer be labelled a "prospect"?
  20. I'm not sure why anyone even visits Fangraphs anymore. Its proven to be nonsense time and time again, especially when it comes to ANYTHING Brewer-related.
  21. No chance. Jett's value has perhaps fallen, but that would be a massive overpay IMO.
  22. Yet if it were the Yankees or Dodgers mocked to trade for Skubal, the packages would center around MLB roster fillers and 17-year-old rookie league prospects.
  23. Luis Pena is 19 years old, and is currently ranked as MLB Pipeline's #18 prospect in all of baseball. This "nothing more" and "sprinting to the phone" talk reeks of hyperbole. There simply isn't a ton that separate Made and Pena prospect-wise. I certainly hope that Matt Arnold is a little more hesitant to trade him than you seem to be.
