  1. It is an early afternoon "getaway day" type game, though. Still, kinda sucks that the Cubs appear to be throwing in the towel against a team we'd all kinda like them to beat this afternoon. We can put the reds away later. I hope they demoralize the cubs. They are going to be a AAAA team after tomorrow. They're already demoralized. I have no problem with them playing the spoiler role from here out.
  2. I am almost positive he said after his last game that he will be back on a normal leash now.
  3. Right .. I should have clarified that I believe that they are going to ride Yelich every day because they believe his is of utter importance to the team. I don't necessarily agree with that 100%, personally. He'll get rest days, but it will be far from a straight platoon. Of course, they don't face lefties that often, either.
  4. You think we got Escobar to start half the games, and PH the rest? I beg to differ. This guy is going to start every day for the rest of the year barring injury. Agreed. He'll likely bounce around between 3B, 1B and the corner OF spots (maybe even 2B), but he'll be in there pretty much every day. Dude is an All Star and now easily has the team lead in HRs.

  6. If it happens, it's likely going to be for a starting pitcher with control beyond this season. Definitely a buyer's market right now.
  7. Agreed. Probably a better prospect than Cooper Hummel, but not by much.
  8. LOL Hand just went to the Blue Jays, probably while you were typing that.
  9. Riley Adams, a 25-year-old catcher who is the Jays' #17 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, is the return.
  10. They are going to keep riding Yelich, simply because they have to. This team likely goes nowhere if he doesn't pick things up. They aren't going to start platooning him.
  11. Nope, not joining the team till Friday in Atlanta.
  12. Not a rumor per se, but I still expect that the Brewers will likely grab another starter (Gray and Gibson are strong possibilities), and probably another reliever. But it seems that pitching is demanding better returns than hitters are, though, so who knows? With the market down on hitters, perhaps they'll continue to explore that market? Still plenty of bats out there that would be a fit and lengthen this roster.
  13. This deal is nothing short of amazing. Not that Hummel and Ciprion are total nothingburgers, but Hummel is a 26-year-old without a true defensive position who doesn't really have enough power to justify a lack of defense. He'll probably play in the majors, but will always be the type a team is trying to replace. No idea on Ciprion. He has looked good in rookie league, but is a lottery ticket in the truest sense of the term. What the Brewers are getting in Escobar is a player that checks nearly every single box where this team has fallen short. Power? Check. Ability to hit lefties? Check. Ability to play multiple positions? Check. Plus the guy is known as an incredible teammate and clubhouse presence. 14. According to Tom Silverstein from the JS, Cobb's cap charge will be under $3 million. I do no to know the ins and outs of capology, but I assume he is correct there, so I'll take him at his word. Cobb at a cap charge that low really isn't a big deal, especially if Rodgers is adjusting his contract to provide more flexibility. I too would like to see more depth on the D-line, but the options at this point are somewhat limited. Perhaps they'll work out a deal trading from one of their positions of strength (WR, TE, G) for a DT at the end of camp.
  15. They haven't had a true slot receiver for two seasons, and while the offense hasn't really suffered greatly because of that, it has certainly been noticed, especially against tough defenses with good pass rushes. Now they have Cobb, who has historically been one of the better slot guys in the league, and Amari, who is a much younger, albeit inexperienced version of Cobb. If you were looking for a pure slot type to mentor Amari, you couldn't really find someone better than Cobb. Cobb should also be relatively productive this season as well, provided he can stay out of the training room for the most part.
  16. He specifically mentioned that both Nelson and Woodson were willing to take large pay cuts to stay around. That tells me he wanted them to stay around.
  17. How in the world do you take a guy like Nelson, for instance, and put him on the bench as your 4th WR, and play guys like MVS or Lazard over him without the fanbase coming down on you? Nelson was a very good WR in his prime, but to a good portion of this fanbase, the guy was Don Hutson reincarnated. It would have been drama on top of more drama, while fans and media called for an old guy to play when the younger guys should have been developed. Sometimes a clean slice is better than a death by a thousand cuts. It's a tough situation because I totally get both sides.
  18. Dude is a pretty complete player. Great defender at a bunch of positions. Great OBP. Dingerzzzz are great ... but he's more than that.
  19. Same. Lineup will keep them afloat for a possible Wild Card spot. Too much ground to make up in the division, though. Brewers would have to have a historic collapse. I know, I know ... been there, done that.
  20. Well Cessa at least. Wilson is terrible.
  21. Mark Feinsand @Feinsand The Reds are finalizing a deal to acquire RHP Mychal Givens from the Rockies, per source. The Reds at least are cognizant that their bullpen is terrible, and they are giving it a makeover. Cessa and Givens are solid additions.
  22. My main argument is that Urias is 24 years old, and has already improved substantially from what he showed with the bat last year. If you believe his is going to all of a sudden plateau as a .750 OPS bat, more power to you. But given the improvement he's shown in his short time as a Brewer, I don't see that. Will be be a superstar? Maybe not. But a kid putting up a .750 OPS for a contending team after just turning 24, while playing competent defense at a relatively unfamiliar position, is a good thing. There is zero reason in my mind that he cannot continue to improve, too. In the end, I'm not going to upset that apple cart for a 35-year-old 3B that might supply a marginal improvement for a couple months this year. I do not believe that Donaldson is going to provide more production and value than Urias in 2022 and beyond, either.
  23. Wow ... this sounds like something that Mike Florio or one of the other "national" media guys came up with.
  24. I'm more than happy with Urias at least being the strong side of a platoon at 3B. He's a terrific defender at 3B, and as he matures, I expect the hit tool to improve, likely in to .280-290 range. It's the power that has surprised me. He is a legit 25 HR stick right now as a 24-year-old who is still coming into his own physically. There is no reason he can't eventually be a 30 or even 35 HR guy as his gets into his athletic prime. You have a 3B who plays good defense, hits .290 with 35 HRs, that guy is likely getting MVP votes. It's he really a terrific defender? He makes a lot of errors there. Not Braun level but in the neighborhood. Not saying I want him gone, but I think he's probably average at best. He's been MUCH better at 3B than he was at SS. Over throws are the main issue with him right now. Otherwise he has terrific range and instincts. Definitely has the arm to play there. I expect that the throwing issues will improve as he gets more comfortable.
