    The fun thing about the Frelick, Mitchell and Weimer is that they all offer ++ defense, while each also having a very different but intriguing offensive profile. The swing-and-miss tendencies with Weimer and Mitchell are concerning, but the raw talent is also pretty evident. Power cures a lot of blemishes in a player's profile, and while Frelick profiles as a more consistent bat, he doesn't bring near the power potential of the other two. He's going to have to be quite the hitter to stick in a corner spot long term in today's MLB.

    Mitchell and Weimer are just as talented in the OF, if not moreso. Chourio is gonna play. They seem intent on Yelich staying in LF. The more Sal can do, the easier it's going to be to write his name into the lineup every day.

    This team has always valued versatility. It isn't hurting anything to keep giving Clarke reps in Spring Training and in minor league games. If he doesn't show improvement, they can always move him to 1B on a full-time basis later on. Also, if he does show that he can catch on a satisfactory basis, it makes his trade value that much higher.

    This is an extremely good point, TURBO. I think that a lot of fans are hurt that Counsell made the decision he did, but I've never gotten the idea that anyone personally hates the man. I hate that he's wearing a Cub uniform and not a Brewer uniform. Because it makes the Cubs better and the Brewers worse. But at the same time, it is also the Cubs admitting that the Brewers have been a better-run organization for the last 8 years. I don't know if it's necessarily possible (not to mention healthy) to both like a guy personally and also hope he fails, but that's kinda where I am at right now regarding Counsell.

    We hear the argument all the time that there isn't much loyalty among players, and that they basically always decide to go play for whoever is offering the most money. Why should managers be held to a different standard?

    The Cardinals were so, so terrible last year, though. They haven't made a ton of additions. I don't know if they improve that drastically with basically the same cast of characters coming back, especially since many of their bigger bats are already on the decline.

    I don't know if Woody is ever going to be able to make it fully back or not. That is a rough injury for a pitcher to overcome. But he's got an incredible work ethic. If there is one guy who can do it, it's Woody.

    If the Brewers gave up a guy like Frelick, they'd want/need MLB talent back. Tough to find that on the Padres roster and still get equal value.

    This is quite the kick to the balls after they went all-in on Burnes in an effort to build a World Series-caliber rotation. I know other pitchers have tried to pitch through UCL tears in the past, but it rarely ends without the dreaded TJ surgery and extended absence/rehab that goes along with it.

    Should there be any concern that there is no sign of Wiemer on the team's initial Spring Training depth chart? https://www.mlb.com/brewers/roster/depth-chart I get that it's super early, but no-name roster filler guys like Chris Roller and Vinny Capra are listed.

    Also Vinny Capra, Taylor Clarke, J.B. Bukauskas. Haase may not have a place in the org if/when the Sanchez thing becomes official. They have an OF named Chris Roller currently on the 40-man who I think may just be a Create-A-Player from MLB The Show.

    Bickford is the perfect example both ways. He seemingly came out of nowhere to be nails for the Dodgers in 2021 after the Brewers dumped him, but since then he's been below replacement level, to the point where he was essentially given away by the Dodgers last August.

    That's baseball. That's the life of a middle reliever. The Brewers themselves currently have a handful of relievers who they have gotten good results out of after other teams essentially either gave up on them or gave them away for little in return - Payamps, Milner, Peguero, Megill, Bryce Wilson. It wouldn't be a surprise if Andrews became a solid middle reliever. It also wouldn't be a surprise if he never sees Yankee Stadium, either. In the end, it's a good thing that the Brewers feel they have solid enough relief pitching depth that they can cut bait on a player like Andrews who still has upside, at least in one well-run team's eyes.

    Apples and oranges. Burnes always profiled as a high-end starting pitcher. Even when he was terrible his rookie year, the stuff was evident. Andrews's upside, though, was probably middle relief. While important, that is a value that is much more easily recouped.

    I'm not exactly sure that ""he's close to establishing himself as a back-end starter" means that is his career ceiling. I read that exactly how it reads. Back-end starter in 2024.

    I hope you are right, and Yelich will be able to continue playing the OF at an acceptable level into his mid-30s. I am skeptical that is going to happen, though.

    The Brewers are also flush with OFers, and Yelich's effectiveness in the OF isn't going to get any better as he ages. Unless he makes the move to 1B after Hoskins leaves, he'll eventually be the primary DH.

    I'm guessing it's moreso a roster flexibility issue ... wanting a DH-type bat who can passably play a defensive role as well. I guess you could technically stick Soler or JDM in a corner OF spot, but both bring substantially negative defensive value.

    Perhaps. But those guys played in a much different, much less PC era.

    On the surface, you make very good points. But Junis is a guy who has some peripherals that point to a possible breakout. He's a guy who's "stuff" hasn't matched his output. And if the Brewers have proved anything in the last decade, its that they are capable of taking those types of arms and getting results. This is a team that typically doesn't blow good salaries on pitchers who they think are only going to give them replacement-level production.

    Caratini is/was a fine backup C. But that was basically the extent of his role. 1-2 starts a week at the catcher position. Sanchez has the bat to take a start at DH once or twice a week in addition to the 1-2 starts he'll see at C. On paper at least, that is a net gain.
