  1. Both would be 2-3 month rentals with very high salaries, though, as they are free agents after this year. You may be overestimating how much of a prospect haul those guys would bring back.
  2. I just don't understand why Jordan Love can't exist as a young, talented backup QB for the next 2-3 seasons. Fans act like they need to do something with him, but they really don't. He's on his rookie contract that has three more years, then a 5th year option. I don't get the idea that the Packers aren't allowed to have a young, talented backup QB waiting in the wings should their 38-year-old superstar suffer an injury. After some of the pure crap they have trotted out there in the seasons Rodgers has gotten hurt (Seneca Wallace, Brett Hundley and DeShone Kizer), it makes me happy knowing that they are putting some effort into the QB position beyond Rodgers. If Love had to play a stretch for Rodgers and looks good, then you deal with perhaps finding a deal for one of them to get good value back. But not now.
  3. We don't even know that they are digging their heels in on him, though. So much of what is going on is pure speculation. All anyone knows about Love right now is that he's an extremely raw but very talented 22-year-old QB. If they hit on him, his value is enormous. It makes no sense to dump a 22-year-old QB simply to make a 38-year old QB feel better.
  4. This is complete utter speculative nonsense.
  5. I don't blame them for trading Arcia. They couldn't have foreseen Hiura continuing to be an absolute dumpster fire.
  6. Girardi channeling his inner Dusty right now. Edit: Well fudge. What a forgettable week.
  7. The success of this offense was always predicated on Yelich and Hiura being offensive forces. Well, we all know how that has gone. Nothing about what is happening offensively is surprising. Losing Narvaez sucks because he was hitting very well. Wong is an average hitter. Urias is likely going to be an average hitter. Shaw is and has always been incredibly streaky. You take the good with the bad with him. Garcia has been better lately, but he's no world beater. Cain has been hurt, and Bradley has been a disappointment with the bat, to put it mildly. This team is going to continue to struggle offensively as long as Yelich is out and Hiura is in the minors. Because this lineup was built around them.
  8. I think that's where a lot of people are on this. Favre had much more of a "aww shucks Man of the People" vibe, so the common fan could relate to him much more. There were really not many secrets with that guy. What you saw was what he was. That's why his divorce from the Packers drove a stake deep through the Packer fanbase, that took several years to heal. Rodgers, on the other hand, is a smart dude who dates superstars and lives in a California mansion. Other than what he allows to get out, no one really knows anything about his personal life. It's tough for Joe Blow from Cudahy to relate to that. Plus, those who sided with Favre 13 years ago were proven wrong when Rodgers became a superstar, so a few may have a little more faith that the team's front office might actually know what they are doing.
  9. The Green Bay Packers were the Green Bay Packers long before Aaron Rodgers rose to fame. They'll be the Green Bay Packers long after he retires. That is why you don't let the students run the school.
  10. We went into this season with no 3B and no true 1B, two offensive positions. (I do understand that Hiura sucking as bad as he has wasn't fully expected, but the writing was on the wall based on last season) We absolutely needed one more bat at either position. What do we do instead, sign JBJ, another outfielder with no bat. Shaw has worked out, but what a question mark that signing was. You can make all the excuses you want for anyone you want but the plan going in was questionable. I am not fully blaming any one person, but I don't think the plan that we started the season with offensively was a good one. Hiura or Yelich goes down and we are screwed. Just so happens that what has happened with both of them could quite possibly ruin the season. What was our back-up plan if Hiura (a guy who has never played 1B) didn't work out? Vogelbach our full time 1B? Our 1B plan was horrible, and we are now paying the price. Shaw can play 1B, ok great, but then that leaves us with no 3B. It is what it is. Hiura is an athletic 24-year-old who has proven his can hit MLB pitching. Any MLB middle infielder should be able to make the switch to 1B with the proper coaching. I would disagree that our 1B plan was horrible. It just so happens that the guy (Hiura) they pegged to play 1B has been atrocious. Those are different arguments.
  11. I wanted Hand in the winter when he could have been acquired for a simple waiver claim. He's still been very solid. I would have interest in most of those guys, obviously Scherzer. Harrison has been hot all year. We'll see what happens with the Nats though, that division looks pretty open and they are starting to get healthy. Right now I think CC would welcome anybody who could hit. Nobody can blame him for the garbage he has to put on the card every night. Injuries to Narvaez and Yelich really hurt, but Stearns/Arnold did almost nothing over the winter to help with the exception of Wong. Tonight's lineup: Wong/.297 - Cain/.181 - Vogelbach/.191 - Shaw/.227 - Garcia/.245 - Bradley/.184 - Reyes/.188 - Maile/.167 - Peralta/.000.....It's one of the all time worst Brewer regular season lineups ever. Brewer nation has to hope Burnes and Anderson come back soon and the starting pitching can keep the team competitive. This offense was never not going to be predicated by what Yelich and Hiura could do. Those two are supposed to be the big bats. What we are seeing is what happens when your MVP has a chronic injury, and your young stud big bat is a dumpster fire. I'm not sure this can really be blamed on Stearns and Arnold.
  12. Michael Jordan was a transcendent talent, but he doesn't even sniff one NBA championship without the high-end talent such as Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant, and Dennis Rodman that Krause put around him. And that's the NBA, which by and large is a superstar-driven league. The NFL doesn't hold a candle to the NBA when it comes to treating star players as singular entities. Krause may have been a prick, but he built a dynasty. Perhaps Aaron Rodgers doesn't realize that when he is comparing his own GM to Krause, it's really the ultimate compliment.
  13. That Baseball Trade Values site is pretty shady. I wouldn't take anything they put up there seriously.
  14. Not really a great "told ya so" moment. This sucks. I'm not sure how any Brewer fan, even if you perhaps guessed right on this, can't think this sucks.
  15. yet, it was posted in the major league forum. the best way to ensure that none of these guys ever see a minute on the mlb roster is to post it in the minor league forum. It was also posted in the minor league forum, with an explanation as to why this thread also exists. I don't see any issue with that.
  16. Zach Green, Chad Spanberger and Weston Wilson will all likely be sharing reps at 1B in Nashville. All 3 have some potential as possible future major league contributors.
  17. Nail ... head. Seems like they have a few of these older vets who are playing out the string at AAA every season.
  18. Common sense diverged from this situation long ago, unfortunately. Is Gute at fault for not communicating more with his franchise QB? Yes, and he has admitted as much. But Rodgers is being a baby. If he's to the point where he refuses to play for the Packers, fine. Retire, or rot on the "did not report" list." I don't even care about the expected "haul" of draft picks they could get for him. I don't want to see him play anywhere else. No player should ever make himself bigger than the team ... no matter how otherworldly talented he is. For the record, I wish the Packers had done the same thing with Favre. As soon as they dealt him to the Jets, I knew he'd eventually end up playing for the Vikings or Bears, because that's just the type of person Favre is. The Packers let him win, and multiple legacies were tarnished in doing so.
  19. Hopefully Zach Green tears the cover off the ball in Nashville starting this week. Really could use a righty power bat in this lineup. Chad Spanberger is down there as well, but he's a lefty batter, which is a little redundant with Vogelbach and McKinney around. I could get behind with McKinney and Green on a platoon with a DFA of Vogelbach. At the worst, we should have better defense. Doubt Vogelbach is going anywhere as long as Hiura is down.

  21. Correct. But I have it on good authority, though, that he was at his place in the Northwoods when he officially decided to hang it up, and when the Brewers called him to say they wanted to add him to the roster. In fact, he was actually on his boat fishing Wednesday evening when the Brewers called him. When does fishing season open??? Game fish season opened Saturday. From what I heard, he was after panfish, which are open year-around.

  23. If Aaron Rodgers truly believes that Jordan Love is a current threat to his job, or that the Packers prefer Love over him, he has some next-level thin skin. That is beyond having a chip on his shoulder, and is now just being petty.
  24. Yep, and he'll be out fishing the next day. I live roughly a mile from his place in the Northwoods. When they say "cabin", it is underselling it. He lives in a $3 million, 5,000-square-foot home on a lake up here. Beautiful spot ... perfect quiet spot for an outdoorsy guy with a young family. I'm sure he decided to give it one more go to say that he pitched for his hometown team, but if he gets DFA'd, he'll likely be more than happy to hang it up. Is he on the Three Lakes/Eagle River chain? Just curious. I have a place there. Yep, sure is.
  25. Feliciano is at the alternate site, that would probably be why he isn’t on the AAA roster. Same reason Corey Ray isn’t listed etc. Does this mean the alternate site is basically going to be another minor league and everyone else moves up a step? I was under the assumption that the alternate sites were going to be shut down this week with the start of the minor league seasons. I do believe that teams will continue to have a taxi squad at their disposal, though, to guard against COVID outbreaks without players having to travel from AAA locales and having to go through testing protocol. I believe I overheard during the broadcast yesterday, though, that the plan was for Feliciano to begin the season in Biloxi. He may stick around on the taxi squad, though, until Pina is activated and Maile is optioned, and can take that taxi squad spot. Maile is the perfect type to keep around as a #3 catcher, as he has a good amount of MLB experience, is a good defender, and has that all-important option that enables them to shuttle him back and forth between the taxi squad and the MLB roster as needed. Edit: They just released the Biloxi roster, and Feliciano isn't on it. Which likely means he'll be on the Nashville roster ... on on the taxi squad if those continue.
