  1. Good luck with that. Apparently Alabama is seeking ILB help as well. https://www.profootballrumors.com/2019/08/colts-texans-browns-lead-nfl-in-cap-space [sarcasm]Considering the NFL salary cap, those available talents might be getting paid more by Saban at Bama..[/sarcasm] ILBers make nothing compared to most other positions, so available cap space really doesn't matter. Plus, the guys being released this weekend aren't exactly going to be in a prime negotiating spot.
  2. They should be scouring the waiver wire for just about everything. In particular offensive line defensive line and linebacker. I could see maybe a swing offensive tackle, as I'm not sold on Light. That team is pretty solid at D-Line, though. Definitely need ILB, but they have decent depth at OLB. Judging depth from watching this game is a lost cause. 90% of these guys will be on the street by the end of this weekend.
  3. Packers gonna be scouring the wire for ILB depth this weekend. Running very low on bodies there.
  4. You reversed jinxed him. Looked great on that TD drive. I agree though. When you are a high pick and get substantially outplayed by a literal undrafted nobody like Boyle, it does not bode well for your long-term projection. If the Packers hang on to Kizer, they will arguably have the worst backup QB situation in the league. It would probably be that way with Boyle too, though.
  5. Been crap all year ... yet here they are, still alive. Perhaps they shouldn't be, but they are.
  6. Chris Hook's pixie dust?
  7. I see the offense as being too inconsistent to go on a serious run. I actually think the rotation is in decent shape, and while the pen has everyone on pins and needles every game, they've been a little better lately. Inconsistent hitting is dooming this team.
  8. I think Miley may have gotten a little bump in interest and salary because he's a lefty, and had success in the league previous to last year (he was actually very good for the DBacks). Other than that, it's a good comparison. I'd say Lyles is looking at a 1 year, $3.5 million deal, with perhaps a $4 million team option.
  9. What Bickford (or Trent Grisham or whomever) is doing is why it's so hard for teams to give up on talented players - even when struggling. Things can click. Guys can finally get healthy. Guys can make adjustments. It doesn't happen to everyone - but it does happen. You just hate to give up on someone you see something special in. The Corey Ray corollary.
  10. I guess two people can be a cult. Of course, one of those two seriously wants to play Moustakas at SS, while the other predicts superstardom for David Freitas.
  11. We need major league experience. We need Tuffy Gosewich!
  12. Lyles is the definition of a pitcher who you basically pay year-to-year.
  13. The risk factor is that he's Jordan Lyles. Didn’t you just say if starting didn’t work out, he’s good out of the pen? Seems like your sorta talking out of both side of the mouth, you know, based on, your previous posts. Here once again you are 100% wrong. I am an advocate for bringing him back next year, as he's got a good arm and the potential benefit is worth the risk in my opinion. There's still an obvious risk, though. That is a FAR FAR cry from handing him a 3-year contract.
  14. I would say Woodruff, Anderson, Houser, and Davies is fine...but he better find a good starter instead of Lyles. I would have absolutely no qualms with bringing Lyles back as a depth piece. If he doesn't make the rotation, that arm will play in the pen. The guy has been about as close to a revelation as you're going to get since coming back.
  15. The eating of the crow i'd advocate is just for this year, and for those who ripped Stearns for acquiring him. I'd never suggest signing him to a 3-year deal. That's lunacy. He's looking at a Wade Miley deal best case for 2020.
  16. I wonder if Jordan Lyles has achieved "Eating Crow Thread" status yet?
  17. If those guys stay healthy and avoid drastic negative regression, that's a playoff rotation in my mind. Of course, as we have seen this year, that is far from probable.
  18. Hiura is an absolute butcher in the field, but man does he have a sweet swing.
  19. Or maybe he see’s this as his last real opportunity to get out from under this contract. Agree based on the scouting reports that Grisham shouldn’t be playing centerfield, so trade or sign one. Maybe,When we trade Hader this off-season, fingers crossed, one of prospects coming back will be a ML ready CF’er? You seriously believe that an MLB front office operates like a 15-year-old playing MLB The Show in franchise mode on his PS4, don't you? The near impossibility of dealing Cain has been brought up by several posters in several threads, and you ignore it like dealing him is some sort of foregone conclusion. "So sign or trade for one" ... trade Hader for one ... LOL. There are no words.
  20. Pretty much agree with your list, except if Moose hurting, Shaw up earlier. And Burnes will be up at some point. I don't see Freitas until AAA season is over. I agree that Shaw may be up soon if Moose is banged up. I don't see why they'd bring up Wilkerson for any reason. I think he's a good candidate to clear off the 40 man roster. Stearns has to bring up Faria to justify the Aguilar trade. Since when is Aguilar someone the team needs to justify the return for? Thats some major revisionist history in my opinion.
  21. Someone help me understand the Freitas love around here? I see a 30 year old minor league journeyman catcher. He's been in AAA with 6 different organizations: Oakland, Baltimore, Cubs, Atlanta, Seattle, and Milwaukee. When he has gotten the call to the major leagues, he couldn't hit a lick in limited at bats .214/.270/.313. He was made available in the minor league portion of the Rule 5 draft once, he's been released once, and placed on waivers once. I get that he's on the 40 man roster so its easy to call him up and have a 3rd catcher for September, but am I missing something that this is a player who is supposed to have future potential?? The guys coming up from AAA this year have proven that stats garnered at San Antonio are largely hollow. That said, you can only ignore them for so long, and the guy is batting near .400. I don't believe him to have much of a future in the organization, but I am intrigued to see if he can carry any of that success over.
  22. I don't think he's a troll. He is just continuously guilty of posting before thinking.
  23. I'm with you, man! But ... incoming Debbie Downer post in 5 ... 4 ... 3 ...
  24. It is the definition of pessimism, but I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. So you say the team doesn't have the talent to hang with the big boys, then say they can't take unnecessary risks? That's contradictory. If a team cannot hang with the big boys, wouldn't they HAVE to take risks, such as the one they did in 2018 when they decided to pay Wade Miley $2.5 million? The <$5 million Nelson is going to make in arbitration is not a large commitment at all in the whole scheme of things. The Jimmy Nelson of 2017 doesn't exist anymore. To assume its only a matter of time until a 30 year old pitcher coming of a catastrophic arm injury morphs back into his 28 year old pre-injury self ignores all the relevant facts. Based on his small sample of 14 innings with the Brewers this year, Nelson isn't a major league caliber pitcher. So far in AAA against lesser talent than the major leagues, he's walking on average 5+ batters per 9 innings. Moreover, post injury he doesn't throw particularly hard. As any Brewer fan knows (because they've had a lot of them over the years) pitchers who do not throw hard and have iffy command don't do very well at the major league level. Which brings me back to the original point, due to significant injury and ineffectiveness post injury, he's not likely in the team's plans going forward and most likely will be non-tendered after the season. Because he is not on the 40 man roster now I don't see him coming back up. I guess I just disagree ... and we'll see what happens. I think writing off a guy coming off a major injury is a mistake. I get that it happens all the time, though, so it isn't out of the realm of possibility. I agree with the previous poster who pointed out that Nelson coming back this year is a slam dunk, though. If he shows any sort of effectiveness, he'll be back up.
