  1. Exactly, which is why I don't pay much attention to the "our system is ranked last" stuff. If may be low on talent now but a lot of that has to do with the number of guys we are putting in the majors the last two or three years. Plus a lot of the "close to the majors" prospects they've dealt in order to improve the big club. If the Brewers can continue to graduate 2-3 talented guys to the ML level every season, that's pretty dang good.
  2. Perplexing would be my word. He’s been dominating both AA and AAA all year, and his command has improved immensely over the last 7 weeks, to the point of hardly giving up base runners. Whatever, he’s up now and should stay up. Both Roco and Brew4u did a terrific job refuting my point. It's easy to see both sides. You're right ... he's up now, and it appears he may be around for awhile.
  3. I have to say ... between what Williams has done this season, and Grisham's success, it's really nice to see a few of these former high round picks paying off. Perhaps things just clicked for Williams this year. So far so good.
  4. I think they have a philosophy with progressing players and I’m good with that. You can’t stunt growth if you do it too fast (and not fast enough). I think they take the best interest of the player into consideration with a lot of these decisions. You're right. It's just frustrating knowing they had an arm like this performing in the minors all year, while a good number of the pen arms at the ML level have struggled. Not to say Williams won't have his struggles as well, but the raw talent is definitely there.
  5. Pirates put a couple nice swings on Williams, but overall his stuff looks good. Like Bulldogboy said, that change-up is wicked, and I saw him hit 97 on a few of those fastballs. Command looked solid too. I kinda wonder why it took so long to not only promote him to AAA, but get him up here, considering the junk they've been tossing out there at the end of the pen.
  6. C'mon...the Supak love is a little over the top here...he has made 2...2AAA starts...in his first one he gave up 4 bombs...4!! He's a rookie, and everyone wants to throw him into the fire in the middle of a pennant race?? Even if it's for only one start...I'm NOT okay with that. Then again, had the Brewers gone out and did what they should have at the deadline and gotten a starter, this situation wouldn't be so dire. But, can we be careful with the Supak love here please?? I need to see ALOT more before I'm ready to anoint him. Besides, what would he go, 4 innings at most I'd bet?? No point in calling him up for that. Jordan Lyles (whose acquisition you hated) has matched any of the "name" guys you begged for at the deadline. Because baseball. Perhaps you need to take a step back and examine what you are complaining about.
  7. Lying? They said he back was acting up, and that they were trying to stay on top of it so it doesn't get worse.
  8. I wonder if they are going to make Faria bite the bullet and ride the San Antonio Shuttle tomorrow to get a fresh arm up for the bullpen game? Ray Black, Burch Smith and Trey Supak are the only 40-man options available.
  9. Good. Shaw has had a tough enough year without idiots piling on unwarranted. That seems like an unthinkably terrible idea on Counsell's part. 1st and 3rd, I could see it. In the 8th, the bases are loaded, where is Shaw going to go? The other team is not stupid. So your plan is to try to draw a throw on a play that the other team knows the runner literally cannot advance because there is nowhere to go? I almost hope that Counsell is just making that up to cover for Shaw rather than him actually deciding that was a good idea. I get that. It was obviously an attempt to catch the Pirates sleeping. I think Grisham was probably supposed to break for home full bore as soon as the ball left the catcher's hand, but for whatever reason he hesitated and made himself a dead duck. Of course, Counsell knows the issues this team has had with runners in scoring position, so it's hard to blame him for trying to steal a run. Really odd way to do it, though. Unless Grisham has super speed and instincts, I would think the chances of hims scoring on that play aren't high.
  10. Well, parts of it weren't pretty, but I'll gladly take two zeros on the board from a reliever right now. Nice work Faria. You can stick around awhile.
  11. Decent inning there by Faria. Good to see. I was hoping that the velocity would be a little better, but he was consistently at 94. Not a ton of movement on his pitches, but just enough.
  12. Again, we don't have a right handed pinch hitter, and if you PH for him, who is playing SS the last 3 innings? I get that, wasn't asking for him to be PH for, just for him to not swing at the first pitch every damn time in those situations. It was a productive at bat. No complaints from me.
  13. Did he have much fanfare coming into the year? I know the Pirates don't get much pub, but he seemingly came out of nowhere to be a complete slugger.
  14. We have the best one, and he should be starting. Another mistake DS made is giving ten times Pina's contract to Grandal for far worse defense and only and slightly better offense. wut One might think that, judging by his user name, he might hold a little irrational thought when it comes to Manny.
  15. I don't know ... I think he's been pretty reliable since he was acquired. Even giving up lots of HRs last year his ERA was under 4. He's a solid, durable #3-4 starter.
  16. I doubt we'll ever see Grisham in RF. He just doesn't have the arm to play out there. Braun is not a good defender in RF, but at least he has the arm to fake it.
