  1. I can understand going with Kratz, but I'd prefer to get Pina in there for the offense. I also like the idea of going Santana in Aguilar's spot with Braun at 1b, I just don't think it happens. Also there's an outside chance they go Perez at 2b and Shaw at 1b with Perez hitting 5th. Both Santana and Perez are probably less than 5% chance of happening, this is probably the lineup with the most likely variation being at catcher. Kratz catches Miley. That's just the way it is. You aren't going to mess with chemistry in Game 6 of the NLCS. Kratz is gonna catch Chacin tomorrow too. I'm sure Pina will have the opportunity to make a contribution in a big spot at some point, though.
  2. Is it just me, but has this series seemed like it's gone on for about 3 weeks already? So many emotional highs and lows. It seems like Woody hit that HR off Kershaw in June!
  3. That would be the ultimate managerial troll job. I doubt he pulls it two games in a row, but it would be fun if he did, just to hear Joe Buck's disgusted response.
  4. The team's first true "MUST WIN" of the year. I sure have enjoyed all the "It sure would be nice if they wins", though. I'm sure the tension is going to increase throughout the day, but right now, things are quite nice.
  5. Honestly if we're really looking at a way to get Granderson multiple at-bats in one of these games, it should probably be at the expense of out coldest hitter. And that player is likely to win the 2018 National League MVP. I know we're all waiting for Yelich to break out of it ... but time is running out. But no, Braun isn't sitting. If he was comfortable getting a game in at 1B, though, we could play him there, and have the ice-cold Aguilar take a seat in one of these games. Or I guess we'll just have to depend on Grandy to come up big in his final two at bats in the next two games.
  6. Kratz hasn't been very good against the Dodgers, but overall in the playoffs he has a .316 average and .771 OPS. Plus Chacin and Miley both have been significantly better pitchers with Kratz behind the plate. I don't think that's coincidental.
  7. I'm thinking Moustakas-Schoop-Hiura-Shaw would not be bad (I think Schoop rebounds next year). Nice to have the problem of figuring out where to put all the talent. For cripes sake, I know you aren't a big Arcia fan, but to keep writing him out of the lineup next year is looking more and more foolish every time you do it.
  8. Yes, and to paraphrase, Counsell said the plan was to not give Bellinger anything to hit. Then they would have walked Grandal to get to the pitcher. But Junior caught too much of the plate, and Bellinger smoked it. In hindsight, that's the whole point of an intentional walk. That just sounds like an answer that's trying to avoid blame for the decision - makes zero sense with a tiring Guerra to entrust him throwing pitches outside the zone to try and make Bellinger chase, particularly when the decision came at a 1-0 count after Machado got into 2nd on that first pitch in the dirt. IIRC, Guerra threw Bellinger several very hittable pitches during that AB, so I don't believe CC's answer for a second. I agree completely. I think Counsell got caught thinking too far ahead, and it cost him. Now I think the chances of the team's offense doing anything at that point were slim, but it would have been better to at least give them the chance than take the bat out of their hands. You are right, though, that Guerra was cashed by that time. He just as easily could have spiked one against Urias, and Machado scores easily from 3rd.

  10. That's why I could see the Brewers being a key player for DJ LeMahieu or Jed Lowrie this offseason. I think LeMahieu would be an excellent fit. The only issue is he may be looking for more of a long-term contract, and with Hiura potentially waiting in the wings, I'm not sure I'd want to go more than two years on him. They could throw a cheap 1-year deal at someone like Jordy Mercer, too, and see if he bites. The Pirates may be moving on from Josh Harrison as well.
  11. I love what Granderson brings to this team, but the guy just cannot hit lefties at this point in his career. So really, the only time you are going to theoretically start him is against Bueller. This Brewers team is just not set up to face tough lefties, especially those with big sweeping breaking stuff, which is exactly what Kershaw, Ryu and Hill bring to the table. If the Brewers make it to Game 7, and Bueller is tabbed to start, I'd love to see Granderson get a start in RF. Then you can swap him out if they go to one of their lefty relievers. There just aren't that many solid lefty starters in MLB, yet the Dodgers have three of them. That's along with three lefties in the pen. They are set up for this Brewers team almost perfectly. The Brewers need to do something this offseason to rectify the line-up's weakness against lefty starters.
  12. I believe Counsell said the plan was to not give Bellinger anything to hit, in the hope he might chase. Then they would have walked Grandal to get to the pitcher. But Junior caught too much of the plate, and Bellinger smoked it. In hindsight, that's the whole point of an intentional walk.
  13. My question is ... if Yelich continues to lay an ostrich-sized egg in this series, does he hear (and deserve) being booed? I mean, he put this team on his back in September to get them to this point, but he's been downright horrible in this series. Striking out yesterday with runners on 2nd and 3rd with one down, against a pitcher he has owned, was downright awful. But then again, he never would have been in that spot without his otherworldly 2nd half production. I hope he gets hot, and the point is moot.
  14. LOL this is the optimism thread. There IS only one way.
  15. It's on par with Kotsay in CF. It's more forgiveable though, because it was made in the heat of the moment. Kotsay required actual aforethought. I agree 100 percent. Sucks for Guerra who pitched his butt off. Help the guy out when he has been great for you. Don't let him lose it cause he caught too much plate with that one. It was probably likely that the Dodgers were going to win that one regardless, as the Brewers offense just looked completely dead by that time. But I'd take a 97% loss certainty over a 100% loss certainty every time. That decision took the bats out of their hands in a possible 14th. Pretty inexcusable in an NLCS game.
  16. Game 6 and (likely) Game 7 of the NLCS are going to be at Miller Park in 2018. I think back in April, every single one of us would have been stoked about that. They got the one game they needed out in LA. Time to put this thing to bed!
  17. I don't want either in the lineup right now. My original post said that Ray will be in AAA next year, and it is POSSIBLE that he sees MLB time next year. Both are great prospects that may see MLB time next year. Plus the talk was about moving Braun to 1B, which puts Yelich at LF, and opens time in RF. Is Hiura gonna play there?
  18. As a contender, the Brewers were in no position to trade Aguilar this season. Contending teams just don't do that. Had they not been a contender, though, I'm sure Jesus would have been on the trade block, and he likely would have fetched a decent haul of prospects at the deadline, even though he had already fallen off by the end of July. I do agree with the idea of Braun seeing more time at 1st, though. That opens up LF, which is Yelich's best spot, and gives them the chance to either play Santana in RF, or acquire someone to make starts out there. It is possible that Corey Ray isn't far away from being the "RF of the future" as well. He should start at AAA next year, and if he continues to improve, he very well may see MLB time. Corey Ray hit .238 and .239 in his last 2 seasons and has nearly reached 200 Ks in both seasons, he should be nowhere near the MLB lineup. It might be perceived as crazy but I truly think Hiura would be helping this team more right now that Perez and Schoop are at 2nd base. Ray puts up a .801 OPS in Biloxi, but he's nowhere near an MLB lineup. But Hiura puts up a .755 OPS, and he should be with the MLB club? HUH?

  20. I think that's good advice for this board too. Take a day off, get drunk, come back ready for Friday. Thirsty Thursday applies to so many situations!
  21. This team has seemed pretty stressed out for these three in LA. I hope they go back to Milwaukee, have fun on the flight, and are loose on Friday. I think Miley pitches well, and the offense snaps out of their trance.
  22. What about batting Arcia 2nd? I mean, why not? He's been out hottest hitter in this series. At this point, what could it hurt?
  23. His skillset certainly profiles as the exact type of hitter they need at the top of the order. A table setter who is going to hit over .300, steal bases, work counts and minimize strikeouts. His results in the Arizona Fall League are certainly encouraging. I doubt he'll begin the year in Milwaukee (that's a really big jump, and he is still very young and doesn't have a lot of experience). I hope he is over the elbow injury concern as well. They will need to determine soon what his ETA is, because if they feel he isn't going to be ready, they need to acquire a 2B who profiles as a table setter. They just have too many Schoop types already in the lineup for that to work. Indeed. Let Moose and Schoop go and sign Lowrie Yep, that's the kind of signing I'd look for. A guy that is going to sign a reasonable 1-2 year deal. I would think Lowrie would be a great fit. Also maybe Ian Kinsler, D.J. LeMahieu (my favorite), Daniel Murphy (if you can handle his bad defense), Jordy Mercer, Eduardo Escobar, or Jose Iglesias. Lots of options out there. I have no problem moving Shaw back to 3B full time.
