  1. Really nice to save most of the pen tonight with Freddy on the mound tomorrow. You never know which Freddy you're going to get. But whether he's "Effective Freddy or "Non-effective Freddy, I don't think "Efficient Freddy" even exists yet.
  2. Many here thought they were done after losing 5 to the Pirates before the break. But they are keeping the heat on, and here we are in August neck-and-neck with the Cubs. And this is with a very flawed underachieving offense. If these guys can get things figured out, the starters can continue to do what they've been doing, and the pen continues to be strong, this is a team that can do damage in the playoffs. I agree with everything you just said, but that is a lot of "ifs." *nervous laugh* I look at it this way. A lot of us have felt they did a lot with smoke and mirrors in the first half. But the wins have kept on coming, so at some point maybe we need to realize that it isn't smoke and mirrors, and we might actually have a legit contender on our hands. Of course, they team has created a false sense of security in me before, and crushed those hopes, so there's always going to be a sense of trepidation. But if you would have told me back in April that this team would be sitting at 15 above .500 and 1 game out of 1st on Aug. 3, I'm not sure I would have believed it. I thought they were a playoff contender, but I figured it would be to sneak into that 2nd wild card. This has been terrific.

  4. Pretty cool seeing Schoop right in the middle of the celebration at home plate. He took the brunt of the Gatorade bath as Thames crossed. Seems like he's fit in pretty well already ... and I mean in more ways than just striking out a bunch LOL
  5. He'll be fine. Way too big of a track record for him to go completely off the rails. Some guys just take longer to adjust after a trade to a different league.
  6. Terrific work by Burnes. Stuff was electric tonight. Now lets put a couple on the board and walk this thing off!
  7. Why trade for a guy like Soria, then use Jennings here? You can't save every good reliever for when you're leading.
  8. Albers has pitched the last couple games. He's the only one allowed to pitch when they are down.
  9. Santana is actually hitting pretty well in AAA right now though, whatever that is worth. Empty average. Singles and strikeouts. Exactly what he was doing up here. If he doesn't hit for power, he has no value.
  10. The lack of patience is certainly concerning. Especially since it seemed that Stearns was making attempts to get away from stacking his lineup with those types of hitters. I'm sure Doug Melvin LOVES Jonathan Schoop, though.
  11. Yeah, they've tried pretty much everything as far as moving these guys around the lineup, benching guys, sending guys down to AAA and making moves to shore up the offense. I'm encouraged by Moose, but most everything has failed. There needs to be some accountability.
  12. There's never anyone on no matter where he hits so does it really matter? Cain has a very good OBP, but minimal power... That's one. I might be able to think of a second.... 8 HRs and 18 doubles is hardly minimal power.
  13. You know, the only times this year this offense has looked anywhere close to decent is when Cain was leading off. What happened to that?
  14. Yeah, so much for our dangerous Bar League Softball lineup tonight. I know the plane landed at 6 a.m., but these guys are major league players who should be somewhat used to off schedule sleep.
  15. I don't know if it was last night or the night before, but Rock was singing his praises, calling him "such a great coach!" I think I actually started arguing with my TV.
