  1. I thought we were past signing other teams garbage. I hope this isnt true.
  2. When discussing Pierre on this board, nobody EVER takes into account his triples production which also happens to be the most exciting play in baseball.
  3. You guys will not find any Pierre love around here. I have tried it. I have been pursuaded to think that Pierre might not be the best fit for the Brewers. But its not because of his bat, or his baserunning skills. I (personally) think they can help the Brewers out a ton. The masses here have me worried about his defensive skills. He has a weak and inaccurate arm. Has anyone ever heard anything about Pierres leadership qualities?
  4. I like that Briggs - You sign Maddux and then move Davis.
  5. So Braun is on the same level as Andy Marte last year then you figure as far as trade value? Thanks for the input. For myself - I personally think Braun is a higher level prospect than Marte. (I am not saying my opinion is right) Braun has been a player who scouts have had their eye on for a long long time, first coming out of HS, Then as a Freshman All American and Freshman of the year. Then hitting nearly .400 and earning the Golden Spikes award. Also the difference in that Braun was a top 10 pick and if I am not mistaken Marte came out of nowhere as an undrafted FA. Braun has better wheels or so it would appear. Again - your answer is exactly what I was looking for, so thank you. I just personally have higher expectations......again not that you are wrong and I am right. Also - I was only speaking of Braun being a chip in the stack that would net us one of the Marlins established stars. Looking at the Marlins firesale last year, I think its clear that they value prospects more than any other team in the league.
  6. Anyhow - Its not important what was said or what I felt your quote implied. At least not to me. We will only know the answer if Sammy finds himself in an ideal situation as described above, and I think that the odds of that are very small at best. and by that time, I would hope any sammy sosa asking if the BREWERS should sign himwill be buried DEEP in the archives.
  7. No I am not. If I am dismissing 2004, then so are you Peavey, because he hit 35 dingers and drove in 80 runs.
  8. I understand your disagreement. But to me 2005 was a small sample size compared to the entire big picture. Spending his entire career(almost) studying national league pitching and then expecting him to pick up where he left off at 36 years old(I THINK) in a new league against new pitchers was asking him to bite off more than he can chew. I have hated the guy for years, and I am not saying he would help the BREWERS nor be a good fit for the BREWERS. I am saying in the right situation, back in the NL with 500+ ABs, hitting behind a heck of a hitter, and a year away from his most controversial season - I think it is not out of the question that he would be able to put up the numbers stated above.
  9. The Power off the bench would be nice. Unfourtunatly it wouldnt be a positive to the clubhouse when one of our young guys hits a minor slump and you have a player like Sammy sitting on the bench. I cannot see how he would fit on this team, Although I think he is capable of a .270 25HR 70RBI season.
  10. I am just curious because looking at our situation - Gross and Hart could combine to be a heck of a CF. If we played Bill Hall at 3b, and gave him the position long term, would Braun bring in alot of return? I am not advocating a trade of Ryan Braun. I am not suggesting that Bill Hall become our 3b of the future. I am just bringing up a discussion for 2nd season speculation before the winter meetings. Would he be a chip that would bring in Miggy Cabrera or Dontrelle Willis?
  11. fixed : Milwaukee Brewers. 1 yr 1 mill with an additional 12 million in performance enhancers. You'd do it, wouldn't ya?
  12. Who on this coaching staff or team can speak spanish? That is always my hesitation when signing defectors. Its a very exciting signing - I do not mean to put a negetive spin on it, but it does concern me. Does this guy keep a translator near him? **I guess we managed with Tomo so we can manage this. I just wonder what the Brewers are doing to make sure this is a success. **
  13. Id like Lofton - just because he is on the team doesnt mean he has to play every day. Gwynn would still get PT at least 1 or 2 game a week.
  14. No Thanks. I dont think Gary Matthews Jr is for real. His Season stats are so far above his career stats. I am all about taking chances here in Milwaukee, but I would like to see calculated risks. Gary Matthews Jr is just SCREAMING Jeffrey Hammonds II.
  15. I think the Brewers could use Heilmans stuff anywhere on that staff. Unlikely I guess but I would be more than happy if we somehow added him this year.
  16. After being the arm on the mound when the Mets lost their chance at the series, would anyone here think Aaron Heilmans price would be lower than ever? With the injuries and age in the METS rotation, would Doug Davis fetch us Mr Heilman? Glavine and Pedro are going to have a hard time coming back next year, and Doug Davis would give them some veteran stability in that rotation, as well as a inning horse. (If we would resign him) We would then have some extra money to go out and attempt to acquire a similar(Padilla, Maddux) or even a better arm(Schmidt). Anyhow this isnt a discussion about what I personally think, would net us Heilman, but more about if you think he will be available this offseason and if you think he would be the huge help in the Pen I think he would. I even think he could get another go round in the Starting Rotation. I think Heilman might even really like it here in milwaukee, hailing from Indiana and being a midwestern guy his whole life(Notredame) Let me answer it before it is asked. "Why would the METS do this deal?" Because he was the guy who gave up the dreams of Mets fans everywhere.
  17. Dude - Your baseball knowledge (as well as most here) is flat out incredible. (fixed quote -TC)
  18. 2nd half of the season is played in the summer months - hence - warm weather player? I dont think its rocket science.
  19. If Pierre isnt getting on base he is worthless. He doesnt drive runs in, he creates runs. He has always been a 2nd half player. These numbers dont lie. 2006 Pre All Star .275 .321 .361 .682 Post All-Star .311 .340 .418 .758 2005 Pre All Star .266 .314 .353 .666 Post All-Star .287 .340 .355 .695 2004 Pre All Star .298 .359 .380 .739 Post All-Star .359 .391 .438 .829 2003 Pre All Star .298 .358 .361 .719 Post All-Star .316 .366 .389 .755 2002 Pre All Star .271 .315 .310 .625 Post All-Star .312 .359 .393 .752
  20. Pierre doesnt seem to play well when the weather is cold. Sounds stupid, but it just takes one look at his career numbers to think that it just might be fact. The guy doesnt get it going till his team is already out of the race. To me that says he is not a winner. As a leadoff hitter you need to find a way to get on base and get rallies started. It takes a certain personality to do that. He really doesnt do much for me. While he has crazy range in CF, he has a weak and inaccurate arm. The 2 cancel eachother out. His leadoff skills were NOT impressive last year, in fact if I am not mistaken, he was even moved to the #2 spot in the order for a month or 2 last year. I think he will make far too much money for what he does.
  21. So give them Inman and Zack Jackson. Or give them Mark Rogers. In my opinion, while minor league players are exciting, its more important to build a major league team and keep them together when you get something going. Use these pieces to teams that havent gotten to the level that we have yet in order to acquire players we want on our MLB team. The only minor leaguer I would not want to get rid of is Yo. Unfourtunatly he is probably the player that would secure a deal for either CF on the Rays. I just think the Rays have a logjam at OF with Dukes, Young, Baldelli, Gomes and Crawford. I tihnk one of them will be available and I think Milwauke has the tools to get it done. I think we sell Hardys value a little bit short on these boards. He would be the best SS on quite a few teams if he were able to stay healthy. He is a natural leader, a clutch hitter, good baserunner, and could be one of the faces of a franchise .
  22. I look at the roster and I figure that JJ Hardy is as likely as anyone to be moved this offseason. While I know you generally dont move a player when he is down, just maybe you can get fair value when you move him to a team like the Devilrays. The Devilrays are DESPERATE for a SS and Closer. Your not going to find one on the market as talented or with the high upside of JJ Hardy. Hardy would actully be a leader in that clubhouse I think. What would the Rays be willing to give us in return? I dont know but they seem to have a Glut of players in Center. Hardy, Helling and Turnbow for Crawford or Baldelli? Small to mid market teams are always willing to take chances on guys like Turnbow. Heck - thats why the brewers have him. I just bought a Turnbow Bobblehead last night so I am not a TBOW hater. I actully want to see him get another chance to close. Acquiring either Baldelli or Crawford would allow us to really fill some holes. Both put the ball in play. Bill Hall could be an everyday SS, which is where I think his Bat gives us the biggest advantage. Koskie would play every day at 3b. Lineup if we acquire Crawford 1.Crawford 2.Weeks 3.Prince Fielder 4.Bill Hall 5.Hart 6.Koskie/Cirillo 7.Gross 8.Catcher Bench - Cirillo(1b,3b), Mench(LF/RF), Graffy(SS/2b), /Gwynn/Nix(OF), Catchers If we acquired Baldelli 1.Weeks 2.Hart 3.Prince 4.Bill Hall 5.Baldelli 6.Gross 7.Cirillo/Koskie 8.Catcher Either one of those offenses are as good as any in the league. You have speed and power all the way through, and you would cut down on the strikeouts. Gwynn/Nix provide the left handed bat off the bench as well as speed on the basepaths. Normally I am in the minority on my ideas, but I still like feedback. I dont think I am too far off as far as what the Devilrays would want in return. Its possible Jenks comes back and beats out Gross, which would be a real nice player off the bench. If not we would ahve to give Jenks away cause I cant see him coming off the bench.
  23. Id take Burrell and his whole contract - - - - if the Phillies would take BOTH Mench and Jenks in return.
  24. Good Point, but Hudson is a nice backup plan. One bad year mixed in with a bunch of good years.......Id take those odds that he bounces back.
