  1. I said he's mortal against RHB's. What's wrong with that? He is good either way, but he really makes his case for greatness against LHB's. Also, the point was that not only that the Dodgers get to use their RHB's against Hader when you save him to the end; it's that they also get to leave their LHB's in to face Knebel, Soria, Burnes, etc. So it's a double penalty of not getting the best possible match-ups. I prefer Hader as a wild card to keep them guessing or make them make a difficult decision.
  2. I think they'll have a nominal starter tomorrow, but will wait to see the Dodgers' lineup before they even decide who's going to pitch the 2nd inning, let alone the 4th-6th.
  3. He meant it would give the Brewers' RHP relievers a big advantage later on if Hader was in their first and LAD ph'ed for their LHB's earlier. If that's what you're referring to. That was to whoever said that he struggles against RHB or something like that. I said he's mortal against RHB's. What's wrong with that? 4. Good point, although Puig is not gonna hit unless someone gets on base. But yeah, with just 8 pitches in the 8th, this is Hader's close unless the Brewers score more here.

  6. See, this is why I wanted Hader for Chacin when it was too soon to pull Pederson and Muncy. Should end well regardless, but Hader is somewhat mortal against RHB's. I believe tmwiese mentioned the same thing. There's an advantage to bringing Hader in earlier and keeping them guessing.
  7. He doesn't like going consecutive games. I think I'd give him Pederson and Muncy and have him for 2-3 innings on Wednesday. He doesn't like it but he can do it. Especially if they are one inning outings, or he throws 15 pitches in one, etc. I hate using Hader in this game unless guys get on. It is tossing a potentially massive advantage out the window. If you somehow end up using him in only 1 of these 3 games, that would be throwing away a massive advantage too. I slightly prefer making sure you use him today and then know you have him for multiple innings Wednesday.
  8. That Yelich blunder just feels like the kind of garbage play that his triggered LAD rallies the last 2 games. Like you weren't even that worried about it but it would have been nice if it went your way, and then you look up 10 minutes later and it's coronary time again.

  10. Any of those guys are fine options against the bottom of the order. I would definitely want a RH pitcher. At this point it's moot because they went with knebel. Also, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. You don't trust guys and don't use them when you have a golden opportunity, and then you blame them when they finally get in a game and aren't sharp. I would like to see them get a little work with 3-4 run leads. Knebel, Hader, and JJ are fine. Got no problem with them. But it's the lack of work and trust for anyone else that worries me. ETA: Glad to be wrong about Knebel there, but the issue of not keeping other guys sharp could come back to bite them.
  11. I could have done without this game note. Pretty sure the Dodgers have 8 in Innings 7-9. My bad. Now 10-0 through the first 6 innings and 3-8 in 7-8-9.
  12. True, but the issue is that putting a really good reliever in there for an extra inning doesn't necessarily make it any safer. They can do it pretty effectively, but I don't think that's how they're wired. I'm willing to bet their stats suffer a lot in the 2nd inning of work, unless they're an established long reliever.
  13. Agreed. I would add that you have to start trusting some other guys too. They need work, they've been pretty solid, and it's better to use them in the right situation (when your best guys arguably would benefit from a little rest) than wait until you have no choice.
  14. Yes. I think you and I both felt Hader could have faced Pederson, Muncy, and Bellinger, and maybe more. Therefore Shaw would have been at 1B for that Moustakas throw. His defense is much better than Aguilar's there. All is well that ends well.
  15. They usually pull Aguilar and move Shaw to 1B and Hernan to 2B when they bring in one of their relief studs with a lead. Although I could be wrong about how it might have worked there now that I think about it. Was the pitcher's spot due in the next inning when Chacin faced Pederson? Because you have to put the pitcher in a spot that's not coming up soon.
  16. I could have done without this game note. We all could have. Win this damn series and we can pretend it never happened.
  17. Not doing the usual double switch is another low-key disadvantage to not bringing in Hader when they normally would. Love Chacin, thankful for everything, but no. Just no. Tomorrow you have FOUR available, talented starters who have contributed a lot to help you get here in the last month. You can start trusting some other people and not trying to turn your best players into workhorses, which isn't what made them great in the first place. It's the same as JJ yesterday. Yes, the dude was a stud to get you here. No, it's not a case of benching him or not showing faith in him. It's just playing the odds, realizing that sharing the workload has always been a big part of the formula, and trusting everyone who got you here because it's been a team effort all along and now is not the time to change that.
  18. Yeah. Just don't think this is the time to save anyone. Some of the leads on Friday and Saturday, maybe, but not today.
