  1. You can find certain threads archived in the WOAH SOLVDD section. The Cheese Sandwich thread in particular is here: viewtopic.php?f=82&t=6640
  2. Good question. Here are the most recent times the Packers selected two players in the first. 2009 (Raji/Matthews) #9: Raji was the Packers pick #26: Matthews; pick was received from Pats during a draft-day trade. 1993 (Wayne Simmons/George Teague) #15: Simmons was the Packers pick #29 Teague; pick came from Dallas, probably draft-day but I don't know for sure. 1990 (Tony Bennett/Darrell Thompson) #18: Bennett; pick came from Cleveland (plus Herman Fontenot) in a 1989 trade #19: Thompson was the Packers pick. 1978 (James Lofton/John Anderson) # 6: Lofton was the Packers pick # 26: Anderson pick from the Raiders; trade was made prior to the 1977 season 1977 (Mike Butler/Ezra Johnson) # 9: Butler was the Packers pick #28: Johnson pick was from Oakland as part of the Ted Hendricks trade So, it looks like in 1990, 1978 and 1977 the Packers went into the draft with two firsts and used them to pick players. I don't know when they had two picks and used them to move up or acquire players. I want to say it happened during the Wolf/Sherman/Thompson era, but I can't recall the details.
  3. Buckley was over-drafted and didn't really come close to living up to expectations associated with being drafted 5th, especially in Green Bay. He was never going to be the next Dion Sanders or Jim Thorpe, and he wasn't as good ad Troy Vincent was. That said, I think calling him good is fair. He played in 209 games, started 131 and had 50 career interceptions. His 50 career interceptions, 793 interception return yards, 6 pick-6s and 8 non-offensive touchdowns are all top-35 all time. I don't think he was as good as those numbers may alone suggest, but he was good enough to play long enough to have a productive career. With regard to the Alexander pick, I think Gutekunst did a nice job. Moving back (and then back up) accomplished a few things: Picking Alexander at 18 instead of 14 allowed the Packers to meet a need while probably still taking the highest rated player on their board. BPA meets need. Trading back allowed them to add a valuable 2019 pick. It's been a decade since the Packers had 2 firsts, and even if they are both in the 20s they will have a lot of options. He able to leverage having so many 2018 picks to move back to the mid-first round. I'm excited to see how he manages the remainder of the draft, but so far I like what I am seeing.
  4. I get the sense there are a lot of Brewer fans who would be willing to step up and pay a premium price to keep Cubs fans from Miller Park. I am sure if you have tickets for Cubs games you aren't going to use there are plenty of true fans here willing to step up and buy your tickets at premium prices. It sounds like a win-win to me.
  5. Per Adam Schefter, Jordy Nelson is being released. EDIT: Auto correct can be brutal!
  6. I think it could be fair to say the Brewers will both go into this season with their rotation "as is" and they are not content with what they have. I think that Stearns would probably like to add a starter, but he isn't going to add players that are not a good value or aren't measurably better than the guys on the roster. Yes, improving the rotation seems to be necessary to put the Brewers into a better spot to make the post season, but it has to be done with an eye on the future. I think for whatever reason, he doesn't like the guys available (either FA or via trade) to pay the price needed.

  8. I sure could go for a cheese sandwich about now.
  9. Well, I can Rhetorical: (of a question) asked in order to produce an effect or to make a statement rather than to elicit information. First I forget to pick up one of my co-workers from an appointment this morning, now this... what a day!
  10. Monroe couldn't be re-signed because players with bad or expiring contracts were being trade, released by their new team and resigned by their old one. This rule closed that loophole.
  11. I don't think scheme is an issue so much as execution of the scheme. For whatever reasons, guys repeatedly blew assignments which led to big plays that were way too easy. Some of that falls on the personnel guys (relying on young guys too often), some on the coaches. Whomever becomes defensive coordinator (along with the rest of the staff) needs to ensure the plays are assignment-sound. If that means a more vanilla scheme, fine. If that means playing assignment sound guys over more talented guys, ok. But eliminating blown many of the blown assignments will make the defense way better.
  12. Brewers Record: 72-89 (includes rainout that is not played) Playoffs: No Brewers MVP: Braun Brewers CY Young: Nelson Brewers ROY: Brinson First player traded: Feliz Surprise player: Santana Disappointing player: Villar World Series: Dodgers over Red Sox in 4
  13. Does this qualify? http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l68/cthawkinson/Cheese%20sandwich.png
  14. It sounds like cutting the program was a necessity, given the expense of hockey and the lack of money coming in. It's too bad, but I don't think the university can be faulted for that. The handling of the announcement and the apparent lack of communication is where the "bad optics" come into play for me. A friend of my daughter's just completed her senior year as a member of the UND women's hockey team. According to her, they found out about the cut after practice on social media a few hours before any announcement was made. An article we read online posted by a UND graduate said a recruit on campus was informed mid-visit (after watching a practice) of the cut. It sounds like either the university wasn't communicating the possibility the program could be cut or the coaches were not communicating with the players and possible recruits. Maybe they couldn't- it would have probably killed the program to know it may be cut- but the team and incoming recruits are the ones who are suffering the consequences, and they deserved better.
  15. Thanks Bikeage and Jim. The real games can't start soon enough!
  16. Blasphemy, I say! When I go shopping, I always wear my best khakis and a snappy red polo to leave no doubt as to where my allegiances reside with regard to shopping. So whether I am wandering through the aisles of Target or some other lesser store, my clothing says expect more. pay less.® every time. No one who ever sees me will ever call me a Kohls man. I harbor no ill will towards you, of course, because you didn't know how my competitive juices get flowing when I see that red bulls-eye.
  17. Thanks for the tips! I knew I could count on BF.net to fill in some gaps for us, so we'll have lots of choices when we are down there. I had to google "Muffaletta", but that looks awesome. We found a couple of places for good, but we can always use more suggestions. Thank you again!
  18. I don't want to have this thread stray too far from the topic of season tickets, but does anyone have any statistics as to how many Cubs fans end up buying second-hand tickets to attend games at Miller Park versus directly from the team? Or from ticket brokers or individuals who never had any intention of going to those games and bought the tickets strictly for the purpose of reselling them? I understand that no one really likes it when Miller Park is full of Cubs fans, but there are a lot of ways for them to get tickets that don't involve buying them from season ticket holders. And I suspect that even if 100% of the fans with season tickets held on to them there would still be way more Cubs fans at Miller Park than anyone likes.
  19. Jeanette and I are planning a vacation for later this spring and we are looking to BF for suggestions to maximize our trip. After visiting her family in Missouri, we plan on going to Huntsville to visit the US Space and Rocket Center before arriving in Biloxi on May 30. We'll be in town thru June 3, when we detour into Florida for a couple of days before heading home June 4. While in Biloxi we'll be attending Shuckers games on May 30, May 31, June 1 and June 2. Any thoughts on getting a hotel in Biloxi? We aren't looking for anything fancy, and something close to the park would be handy. Also, any suggestions or tips for the games? I see tickets aren't on sale yet, so any thoughts would be great. Also, does anyone have any suggestions for things to do in Biloxi or New Orleans? We'll have lots of free time outside the games, and other than planning a day in New Orleans we don't have any set plans. Any information anyone can provide would be great! Thanks! Chris
  20. To add to what Jimbo said, when Jessica played youth hockey in Onalaska, she played against a number of teams from Madison, Green Bay, Eau Claire, River Falls, and a ton of Minnesota teams, but I don't recall her playing against a Milwaukee team until she moved to girls AAA hockey starting in 9th grade. Even then, I'm not sure how many of the girls who played on the Junior Admirals were from Milwaukee, since AAA teams are allowed to add players regardless of where they live or attend school. I know a number of them were from Madison, but I don't know how many. With regard to fandom in Wisconsin, my experience is all over the map. The crowds at the youth games I attended were great, but they were small- parents and other relatives, but hockey fans from outside the organization were rare. Badger fans (men and women) are largely into the games and knowledgeable, but I'm not sure how much of their love is for hockey or love Wisconsin hockey. The crowds at the NAHL games that I've attended in the area are more like what Jimbo experienced in Milwaukee. For whatever reason hockey plays don't really excite them so much as two guys beating on each other. I haven't been to a Madison Capitols USHL game, so I am not sure how those games are to attend. To me an NHL team in Milwaukee would be a chicken or the egg thing. Would a new NHL team in Milwaukee create a new generation of hockey fans that wouldn't have otherwise existed and turn it into a viable NHL market? Or is the relative lack of interest in hockey in Milwaukee a sign that an NHL team would fail? I kind of think that between Badger hockey, the nearby Wild and Blackhawks, the USHL teams and smaller NAHL teams that Wisconsin hockey fans are appropriately satisfied, but who knows.
  21. Doesn't it seem like he does OK if he takes the shot in some sort of flow, but if he hesitates at all it at all it is has the potential to look like I took the shot? I've only seen the games on TV so my perspective is limited, but from what I've seen if he pulls-up on the break or takes catch-and-shoot jumper not only does the shot look good but he makes them at a pretty good clip. However, if he hesitates at all before shooting everything gets slow and mechanical and that is when he'll be short or wide right by a foot. If that's the case, I am encouraged, because as he gains confidence and matures he's going to take less of those slow-motion jumpers that he almost never makes anyways and more natural shots that he does make at a decent clip. Regardless, I think he's approaching best athlete in the state territory. I know Rodgers has done it better for longer, but Giannis is really good and getting better day by day.
  22. Of course, you are both correct. It may be cold for me but the meat does just fine. I did a brisket earlier this month and it turned out just fine. As an aside, has anyone ever made bacon? I watch an episode of Good Eats where Alton Brown cold smokes the pork belly because he doesn't want it cook, just cured and smoked. I don't have a cold smoker setup, but I wonder if I could use my normal smoker during the winter and get the same result.
  23. A small correction- Green Bay won at Washington in the Wild Card round last year and lost in the divisional playoff at Arizona.
  24. I've started doing this with Packer and Badger football the past couple of years after I started watching Formula One, where most of the races are very late/early. I got so used to being able to skip through the commercials that I enjoyed the races in the Americas less because I was stuck watching the commercials, so I started waiting an hour or so before watching. I started doing it with football too and love it. It's nice to watch a three hour game in closer to two hours and not miss anything. With Wisconsin playing 13-14 games per year and the Packers at least 16, I like the idea of spending a bit less time in front of the TV and a bit more time doing other things.
