  1. Aren't Dontrelle's ancillary numbers, like BA-against, K/BB ratio, OPS-against, etc. noticeably better than Capuano's? You'd have to think so. Actually, they are pretty close. I posted them a while back (maybe in the trade rumors forum), and if I get time I'll try to post them again. Here they are: Willis K/9 BB/9 HR/9 OBA WHIP 2005 6.47 2.10 0.42 .243 1.14 2006 6.45 3.35 0.85 .274 1.42 2007 6.10 4.04 1.14 .285 1.58 Capuano K/9 BB/9 HR/9 OBA WHIP 2005 7.23 3.73 1.27 .256 1.38 2006 7.08 1.91 1.18 .265 1.24 2007 7.68 3.95 0.99 .279 1.54
  2. I think the PS2 version has the uniforms correct. But I have the 360 version and the home uniforms are red jerseys, red pants. I don't think they have ever wore them, and you don't have any options to change the pants. Thanks for the answer. I think that is how it was in 2005 on PS2 (I haven't played that for a while), except you could change the pants. The only time I have ever seen red jerseys and red pants was during the spring game.
  3. Maybe the 5 to 10 newest articles could go on the main page itself with a "Read the whole list" type of link at the tail end. Since not every source archives their old articles, I think we should be careful about that. Nothing worse than having a list full of dead-links.
  4. I can't stand that they completely ruined the Badgers uniform. I don't know how that happened. Can you elaborate on this? I've got a PS2, so it probably isn't a huge deal if I decide to buy the game, but I'm curious what you mean by that.
  5. This is being talked about in the Draft thread. Because there are already comments there, please move feel free to copy and paste your comments to that thread, which has now been renamed. p092.ezboard.com/fbrewers...7415.topic Thanks.
  6. The Bucks have to hold firm for the sake of the league in general. If he doesnt sign, then he doesnt sign. I suspect that if Yi plays basketball anywhere in China that the NBA will rule that he has played professional basketball and the Bucks will retain his rights. I think the NBA is going to do all it can to avoid the appearance that players can dictate where they play when they enter the draft and they are more interested in having the best players in large markets than the best interest of the league as a whole.
  7. Do we have to worry about Parra's innings limit as much? Doesn't being 24 years old as opposed to Yo's age of 21 allow us to pitch him more innings? Yes, for a couple of reasons. First, Doug Melvin said so. So, no matter what anyone else thinks about it, and whether or not they think it's a good idea or not, it's gonna happen. Second, Parra is three years older but has had some significant injuries. While you don't want to baby him too much, its important to not overwork him. And, finally, remember it's not the total number of innings that is an issue, but rather the increased number of innings from the prior year that is thought to cause arm issues. 130-150 innings might not seem like a lot, but that would be between 50-70 innings more than last year, and his highest total since A ball in 2003.
  8. I hope we give Parra a shot to start to see what he's got at the ML level. He'll pitch, but he'll be under a strict innings limit, too, and his 106 is already his highest since 2003. I don't recall seeing his innings limit, but given he pitched 85 innings last year and hasn't gone more than 100 since 2003, I suspect it will be in the 130ish range. Pitch counts are a little more telling. Yeah, but generally speaking, a pitchers pitches-per-inning generally is close enough from year-to-year that innings can be substituted.
  9. I think it has been reported that Parra has hit 95-96 a couple of times this year (maybe by DHonks?). He probably works in the 92-93 range, but I guess I wouldn't be stunned if he maxes out at 95-96. EDIT: Found it on the J/S. www.jsonline.com/story/in...?id=629741 In his second start for the Sounds, Parra, 24, pitched a perfect game against Round Rock. Through four starts at Nashville, he is 3-1 with a 1.73 ERA, with 15 hits and seven walks allowed in 26 innings, and 27 strikeouts. "He's been throwing his fastball 91 to 96 (mph) and 'sitting' about 93, 94," Kyles said. "Physically, he's right back where he needs to be, and he's not too far away mentally, either.
  10. The backcourt, though, seems a bit thin behind the starters . . . Redd, Williams, Bell if they resign him, Mason can swing to SG but can't shoot, Greer. The twelfth roster spot shakes out to be a guard if the rest of this comes together. Are they counting on Sessions to make the team, or is another FA coming? Couldn't Simmons play a little shooting guard? If he can, I imagine you'd see Bell backing up Williams and Redd, with Simmons backing up Redd and also playing small forward with Mason. I think there are plenty of minutes available for each player that way, and it allows the team to mix and match some.
  11. Parra is running into the same innings limitation that is afflicting Gallardo, probably even more so due to his injury past. That doesn't mean he can't be a starter down the road, but it does mean that even if Parra makes a start or two for Sheets, he's eventually going to end up in the pen.
  12. t's effect on our lead and the possible tiebreaker. And I already did note that "these things happen throughout the season, just sucks it was against the Cubs". It doesn't affect any sort of tie-breaker, though. The only two times a tie-breaker would come into play is in the event of a three-way (or more) tie, or in deciding which team is the Wild Card team and which is the division winner. A three-way tie seems very unlikely at this point. And if there is a tie-breaker to decide the division champ/wild card rep, I doubt I'll care because they are in the playoffs either way. The worst realistic thing that lose would do is force a playoff against the Cubs. And if the Brewers don't win that game, they can point back to any one single lose over the course of the season as the game that prevented them from making the post season.
  13. Anyway, interested to see what you guys/gals would do if you caught number 756! I would definitely not deface or devalue the ball. What happened after that would depend. I think the ball has value, and it would be reasonable to be in some way compensated for returning the ball to Bonds or giving the ball to the HOF. Maybe Barry or the Hall could get me a Fielder signed jersey and bat? Regardless of what I think of Bonds, there is a level of historical significance to the home run and that ball, and I think it should be preserved, no matter what I think of Bonds personally.
  14. From what I understand, the first tiebreaker for a division championship is head to head winning % correct? With the Cubs being 7-5 vs. the Brewers so far, we'd have to sweep to win the tiebreaker with them. That only applies if the Brewers and Cubs are tied, and the team that does not win the division would the the NL wild card winner. In that case, both the Cubs and Brewers would make the playoffs (so no playoff is really necessary), with the tie-breaker being used to determine who wins the division and who is the wild card. If a team from another division is the NL wild card winner, there is no tie-breaker to determine the division winner, but rather a playoff. That Ramirez walk off win is looming so large right now. Not only has us 3.5 up instead of 5.5 up, but it pretty much eliminates us from winning the season series from Chicago (a sweep in our last series is unlikely). I believe that would be a 4.5 games rather than 5.5. Milwaukee would gain 1/2 game for their win, and 1/2 game for the Cubs losing.

  16. I agree with what most of the others have said. It's not that the Brewers are relying too much on the home run (which I think is kind of silly, since home runs are the only thing that guarantee at least one run), but rather they are not getting on base enough to allow them to score some runs when they don't hit home runs.
  17. Why is Yost more concerned about 20 or so innings for Gallardo (which may make absolutely no difference to him) rather than a franchise's first playoff appearence in a quarter of a century? Nice that you and Ned have such a clear crystal ball Chio. Withholding 20 innings insures exactly what? Answer: Nothing. Not one extra year, certainly not 10. And (20 extra innings from Yo) doesn't ensure the Brewers make the playoffs, either. Additionally, even if there was no injury risk, there is always the risk that his performance will suffer as his inning total increases. Verlander stated last year his playoff performance suffered because he'd never pitched so much in a year. The Brewers are simply playing the probabilities. There aren't any promises (with regard to the Brewers making the playoffs or Yo getting hurt), so the Brewers are doing what they can to make sure that if Yo does get hurt down the line, it's not from overuse, and that if they do need Yo down the stretch, he is fresh enough he can help. And, it's not a Yost decision. It is an organizational-wide decision.
  18. Intresting, how many gm's talk to 6 other gm's on a normal day? Maybe something will happen soon? I am just guessing, but probably a lot. If I were a GM, I'd imagine I'd probably try to talk to every GM at least once a week. It doesn't have to be anything specific, and maybe it's just a call to set up a round of golf next time I'm in town. But I'd like to talk to everyone as often as is reasonable just so lines of communication are open if it becomes time to make a deal.
  19. Bill Hall makes a complete recovery from his ankle injury Good news that I didn't see posted anywhere else. It's not a high ankle sprain like was first report, and he hopes to return very, very soon. www.jsonline.com/story/in...?id=632277 "That's how I feel. Obviously I'm not going to make any promises. There can always be setbacks with injuries like this. I could go out and start running and tweak it again. But I feel good. I feel like I can return in two weeks." Hall said tests showed there was no "high" sprain but rather a sprain on the inside of the ankle and a minor sprain on the outside.
  20. I think it's legitimate to say "Milwaukee, I'll play for you, but it will be at a higher price than I'd play for Miami". Lots of people who are offered a job will use that offer to leverage more money from their current employees. The only difference with an NBA player doing it is the number of digits in their check is higher.
  21. Try this: Down one run, late in the game, man on 3rd, 1 out, big bulky snail-speed slugger (a Jeff Francoeur type) at bat. Yes, I would prefer a sac fly to a walk. Make it a weak hitter up next, and my sentiment's even stronger. Just tie the game, right? Who's with me? . If the only choices are walk or sac fly, I'd take the sac fly. The problem is those aren't the only two choices, and the most likely choice is often determined by the pitcher more so than the hitter. If a pitcher is pitching around the hitter it is more likely the most realistic choices are walk or non-scoring out, with a sac fly and hit being the least likely. - walk - ground out to pitcher - ground out to third - ground out to first - pop up on the infield - shallow fly ball to outfield - strike out - sac fly - base hit Now, I don't want someone going up to the plate looking to walk. I do want them to, if possible, drive in that runner, because that run needs to score to have a realistic shot at winning the game. But I want them to be smart enough to take what's offered to them, even it it's a walk. I don't want them to "expand the zone" and "just make contact" in an attempt to drive in a run and then ground out to the pitcher. No matter how weak the next hitter, I'd rather have a runner on first and third with one out than a runner on third with two outs. I like the odds of that runner scoring from third a lot better with one out than two, double-play risk and all.
  22. Here are some things I'd do, understanding that no matter what you do someone somewhere will be upset about it. First, I'd clearly spell out what is appropriate and what isn't, and what is expected of the kids. They should know, but I never assume they do. Second, I'd let them know there are consequences for their behavior, and what that will include (reduced playing time, running, etc). Third, stick to the rules! If a guy is supposed to run poles when they argue balls and strikes, make them, even if he hit a game winning home run. If the rules say you argue and next time you are pinch hit for, pinch hit for them, even if they are your teams best hitter and it's a key situation. Any exceptions make the whole thing worthless. Finally, if the first three don't seem to work, make sure you talk to the umps and let them know they don't need to take any crap from your players, and they should feel free to throw them out of the game if they need to. I don't know how often that happens today, but it is possible getting thrown out of a few games will do more to adjust their attitude than making them run or pinch hitting for them. I think I'd rather deal with a team of .200 hitters than a team that doesn't listen.
  23. When they were a Brewers affiliate, we always got there about 2-2 1/2 hours before the game. We usually were in line within the first hundred or so people. There was always a high-demand for these things, and there was a line. That said, I have no idea how it is now, since I haven't been to a game since the affiliation change.
  24. I also disagree that they won't gain by swapping Vargas and Villanueva's roles. The biggest weakness on this team the last month has been starting pitchers not getting past 5 innings much less 6. That seems to be true, but right now we don't know how long it will take Villanueva to get to the point where he can go 7. His only start of the year to date he went five, so while I think it probably won't take long to get to the point where he is going 7 innings, we don't know for sure. The worst thing that could happen is Villy becomes a 5-6 inning starter through late August and Vargas doesn't pitch well once he has been moved to the pen.
  25. How exactly do you research the effect of a base stealer on the mentality of the pitcher? I'm not disputing that it has been done or questioning you, it just seems strange. If it affects a pitcher mentally, wouldn't it affect a hitter, too? I mean, both guys are thinking about the base stealer, even if they are thinking different things. If that is the case, I'd think those mental affects would cancel each other out. As a hitter, the last thing I want is to have to take a pitch, potentially one I can drive, to let a guy get a pitch to steal a base.
