Just another offseason of the Brewers doing nothing.. Last year was the exception and we saw what it did for them.. Too worried to make trades, too worried to spend money. That’s why this team will never be in the World Series again.
One of two things happens today.. 1. We stand pat. 2. Somehow by a stroke of a genius Stearns will trade for DeGrlm and Realmuto making us the NL favorites.
Don’t bother trading for him.. I’d actually trade away Aguilar, Braun (if LA wants him, let’s just get a bag of balls), Kratz and Knebel need to get cut, Salad sucks, Shaw can’t hit, this team sucks.. just had one good month..
He was always a good pitcher until injuries slowed him down.. I would maybe give up a top 20 piece for him, but I doubt that’s enough to satisfy the Reds.
Stearns is all bark and no bite in my honest opinion.. he says a lot of stuff, but doesn’t follow through. We aren’t getting DeGrom or Thor no matter how much I’d like to see it happen. Expect smaller moves like Happ or Hamels and maybe a bat or two.
I think Peralta and Burnes both have top of the rotation upside. Even with Degrom we are far from the favorites to win the division much less the World Series which should be our ultimate goal. Next season we could have a terrific rotation with Nelson, Peralta, and Burnes in it and the lineup should be so much better with Hiura at second base. Looking at the big picture we will be much better off in future seasons by keeping the system intact. Hiura really looks like our only impact bat even close to the majors. We just cannot afford to give that up. Yes Degrom is great but he has a lot of tread on the tires and pitchers get hurt so often that the risks of trading a potential star bat like Hiura plus Peralta and Burnes is just too risky. The Yelich trade was much more understandable because he is a young position player with 5 years of control vs 2.5 of Degrom. I don't understand this need every time we are decent to go all in. We aren't losing anyone important after the season and have a potential star in Hiura plus some nice pitching that will contribute next season. Bottom line to me is just stay the course. Go out and get good rentals like Asdrubral Cabrera and a bullpen arm like we did last year with Swarzak. Those rental deals cost us nearly nothing last year and we can do that again this season without mortgaging any of our future. Well then let’s go get Thor, who is 25 and has like 4 years of control.
I agree with no one being off limits but I'm not moving Hader for those names. I'd need the level of Syndergaard or Bumgarner to be talked into moving Hader. DeGrom and Stroman are pretty good though.. we arent getting a Syndergaard or a Bumgarner..
I was going to ask if you guys thought Hiura could make the team out of Spring Training.. if he tears the cover off the ball right away, do you think he can do it? the glove is decent enough and his said ETA is 2019, so i dont see why not..
