  1. Rather see him leading off than Sogard. I just don't understand why Sogard is batting there, Cain is better in every way. If we're essentially getting Arcia and Sogard batting one after the other let's just put them 8th and 9th rather than 9th and 1st.
  2. Be nice to see some more guys get rid of their first hit jitters today. Edit: with the current lineup I guess that's just Garcia and Narvaez.
  3. What struck me in the last couple ABs by Arcia is he needs to be just as zen when hitting with men on base as he was yesterday when nobody was on. Classic Arcia abandoning all common sense when he sees an opportunity for a big hit.
  4. They are the ones who want to play more games so yeah fans can criticize the players for this. If they were about not putting themselves at risk they would be advocating for less games but they are not. It is more about money than anything else. I know right? As a baseball fan, the very last thing I want to see is more games being played. LOL at the owners, trolling their own fan base over what will amount to a 5 game difference. The disturbing thing is how easily it works on some, because "players be greedy". Owners in March "that wasn't really a done deal" Owners in June "oh we thought it was a done deal" LMFAOOO What's frightening to me is the thought that the owners only went through the Manfred/Clark face to face charade so they could shut up the "When and where" movement that had them down for the count to turn around and paint themselves as martyrs when the players countered the offer. When counter offers happen in every single negotiation ever.
  5. The 60 game scenario was an offer, not an agreement. By definition that means there was going to be a counteroffer. This 70 game counteroffer is also just an offer. Hmm, what's a number between 60 and 70... So we're talking about 5 games, give or take a game or two. It's very close. No reason to jump off a building. If either side lets this blow up now over 5 bloody games they're idiots. I can't think the playoff compensation is that far off either. This could all be over by tomorrow or this weekend. Let's hope.
  6. I think the argument for the DH causing a slight disadvantage to the Brewers/small markets is it could possibly drive pitching prices up even higher. I don't have stats but anecdotally I believe that not only did the AL have the overall edge on offense, I believe they had the edge on pitching over NL clubs. In my mind having the "easy out" in the line up could have devalued pitching in the NL to a slight degree that clubs would be just that tad bit more hesitant to out spend what an AL club might be willing to offer, because the AL clubs had the bigger challenge getting outs. This is just pure speculation on my part, I haven't seen this brought up anywhere. It's just one of the possibilities I thought of, that NL clubs might now be a little more willing to compete with AL clubs for the best of the best pitching.
  7. I thought Selig wanted expansion, and doing so meant that one AL team would have to go to the NL. "No DH" may have been his battle cry, but I figured it was that someone needed to make the move, so he volunteered the Brewers. He may not have been a competitive owner, but he knew how to play politics and get the public to believe what he was selling. Must be the used car dealer in him. I don't remember the DH really being a factor in the move (that doesn't mean it wasn't, just that I don't remember), at the time the NL Central was looked at as a weaker division than the AL Central was and by that reasoning it was being pushed to Brewers fans as a good move to be more competitive. A shortsighted argument as it turns out.
  8. So if you have this lineup (don't dwell on the order, lol): 3B Holt*, CF Cain, LF Yelich*, 2B Hiura, DH Braun, 1B Smoak^, RF Garcia, C Narvaez*, SS Urias ...and Braun moves to 1B during the game, then Smoak is out of the game and the lineup is only 8 players long for the rest of the game? Or does the pitcher then bat in Smoak's spot? Correct, the pitcher bats for the remainder of the game, in Smoak's spot. Further subbing can ensue normally once that occurs, it'll be like NL rules once the pitcher is expected to bat. Edit: Actually, I'm not as sure about if the pitcher would bat in Smoak's spot because technically the DH spot is the pitcher's spot in the line up. It might require a pitching change and then the new pitcher could be inserted into Smoak's spot and then bat for himself.
  9. As I recall, if a DH goes in to play the field that team loses the DH for the remainder of the game. Edit: No, an established fielder can't become the DH during that game. Once the DH spot is set in the lineup it doesn't move. If the DH bats 6th, that's the DH spot in the lineup for the remainder of that game unless the DH is forfeited.
  10. I must have missed when the Brewers were having an easy time being competitive. What's the DH going to add, a .01% extra difficulty?
  11. Jumping in late to give the owners/commish credit for stepping up and making a real effort at labor peace, at least for the immediate future. Better late than never. It was done in such a way that the players will need to be careful and intelligent with a counter offer so as not to ruin the momentum, and I have faith they will be. Optimism! What a weird but welcome feeling! Who knew? Love that the DH is being implemented. Really looking forward to the NL not being looked at as the lesser league in the future. Now hopefully the Brewers survive whatever realignment high jinks that may ensue, Cubs and Cardinals need to remain division rivals.
  12. IDK I feel like the players have a solid argument for their actions being less greedy. Maybe if the league hadn't been suppressing salaries the last several seasons, or if some here will bristle at that accusation, they've at least taken advantage of a market that allows tanking teams and luxury tax dodgers to help inadvertently suppress spending on salaries league wide, maybe the players wouldn't be so entrenched in their position and would be more willing to help the owners absorb some losses. The environment in 2020 is a scenario the owners could never have predicted and it's biting them hard in a place they didn't think possible. So while I can't disagree that the players are being greedy in a way, I feel like it's more justified.
  13. If you're asking because you don't want to watch Breaking Bad at all, ever, then no, you don't have to watch Breaking Bad in order to understand Better Call Saul. But if you intend to watch both shows I'd recommend watching Breaking Bad first. Mainly because the characters in Better Call Saul aren't as in the forefront of the story in Breaking Bad so you'll come off watching Better Call Saul only to see the characters you grew to know really well on that show be pushed off to the side in Breaking Bad. Not that they aren't important, they're just not the focus. I just think it would be awkward to watch it that way.
  14. The Wire has been on my to do list for ages, have just never gotten around to seeing it... So HBO is currently free? No, a selection of HBO shows are free. Here is a link: https://www.hbo.com/hbo-news/watch-hbo-free-no-subscription My wife and I also enjoyed Big Little Lies- it was pretty intense. We plan to watch Sopranos next. McMillions is worth a watch, I think it's only 6 episodes and I binged it in one sitting. Documentary about an FBI investigation surrounding the McDonald's Monopoly promotion and how a group of people, loosely associated but all under one major insider con man, chose who would win the million dollar prizes for over a decade. Wanna say from the late 80s to early 2000s. Fascinating stuff.
  15. In theory, with WR being a really deep position it would stand to reason that pushes guys that would be ranked higher in normal years to the UDFA pool, so I'd expect we'll see a bunch of those types added after the draft. Very well could have been Gute's strategy on the position from the beginning.
  16. An article on ESPN says that Hopkins was seeking a new contract and that there was some friction between Hopkins and O'Brien. That's still no excuse to trade him for way less value than he's worth.
  17. I think delaying the tournament is a non starter, the scheduling would be a nightmare, all those venues don't just sit there empty all year round except in March, not to mention all the hotel space that would be needed. I think it will simply be cancelled. Possibly a reduced field could be gathered since it would require fewer locations, say they essentially begin the tournament with the Sweet 16 and seed all schools accordingly, but that would be extremely controversial I'd think.
  18. 1) Every non-starting player is the 26th man. I can't imagine any team brings a guy into a room and says "You've made the team, congratulations. However, we only see you as roster player #26, so don't get cocky." 2) I don't think Morrison is in any position to demand a starting job from any team in the league. If teams wanted him as a starter he'd have gotten a major league contract offer much sooner and he wouldn't have had to sign a minor league prove it deal with the Brewers. I don't think Morrison has ever said he does not want to be "the 26th man". He said it's difficult to put up good stats without consistent playing time, it's a pretty big leap to then assume he would decline such a role. He HAS said he won't go to the minor leagues. If he makes the team as part of the 26 man roster I think he'd be pretty satisfied with that seeing as how he'd be guaranteed a major league salary.
  19. Today I Learned: Greinke's legal name is Donald Zackary Greinke. I feel like I should have known his actual first name was Donald but apparently it wasn't mentioned in any news articles around the time the Brewers acquired him, or I missed those articles, but I know I would have done a lot of reading about him back then.
  20. Looking back, I really wish the Cardinals had made the mistake of signing him to that contract instead of the Angels. I'm not certain my body could contain that much schadenfreude.
  21. Right, I'm not claiming Pujols is good. He's far and away not worth the $30M a season he'll get this year and next year, and his entire contract pretty much backfired on the Angels almost immediately. But he's not completely useless even at age 39 last season, he's not great, he's not Braun even, but it could be so much worse too, like Chris Davis worse.
  22. Sounds like only YES Network, Fox Sports Prime Ticket and Fox Sports West will be dropped. My understanding is that all other RSNs will continue to be available going forward, including Fox Sports Wisconsin. https://www.cordcuttersnews.com/youtube-tv-has-removed-sinclair-owned-fox-regional-sports-network/ Also, seems like YouTube TV is currently offering another extended 2 week free trial to new users, so if anyone hasn't tried them yet you have until March 15 to take advantage of this free trial. https://www.cordcuttersnews.com/youtube-tv-is-offering-an-extended-2-week-free-trial-ends-march-15/
