  1. IDK, I have multiple friends that use my Fox Sports login to watch Brewers/Bucks. One tries my charter stuff on everything where you need to show that you have cable and it works. The funniest part is that I actually got rid of Charter in November and the logins still work. I have internet another way now and am still able to login to the Charter app and watch everything for free. I'm going to keep riding it for free as long as I can just to spite them, even though I hate not just having normal cable. 3 months so far. My dad has Spectrum and when I try to use it, what I described happens. I can watch Hallmark Channel but it will not allow me to connect to Spectrum live without being on their network, i.e., in their house. You wouldn't be able to use the Spectrum TV app but you should be able to use 3rd party apps like Fox Sports Go, ESPN, TBS/TNT, etc. Many networks offer their own app. As long as those channels are part of the original cable package you should be able to log into those using Spectrum credentials. For context, I believe the Spectrum TV app is a way to access your cable subscription without needing to use one of their cable boxes. Say you have 4 or 5 TVs in your household, having a box for each of them would get pricey, so you could use the app instead to cut down on the box fees. It's only intended for use at a customer's home.
  2. Yep, I do a lot of free trial jumping. Make new email addresses and repeat. YouTube TV, for what it's worth, seems to also remember your previously used credit cards though. Something to keep in mind.
  3. I bought a Roku on black Friday and with it came a 40% off for 2 months of Sling promo code. I'm using it now. Strategically Feb/March is a great time for it, don't need FS Wisconsin for Bucks games because over half of their games will be nationally televised on ESPN, TBS/TNT, ABC and NBA TV over the next 2 months. Then when baseball season starts up at the end of March I can change to a service that does have FS Wisconsin.
  4. YouTube TV has a free 2 week trial going on for new subscribers right now through Feb 13 (meaning that's the last day to sign up for the trial). Excellent value if you're looking to try a streaming service out.
  5. Ha, didn't see this post when I posted mine. Admittedly mine sat for several minutes before I posted it because I'm at work and got distracted. But, as to the Reds and their expected success this season, the Phillies have been active in free agency the last couple seasons and they've gone from around a 66 win team in '17 to an 80 win team in '18 and an 81 win team in '19. The Reds increased their win total to 75 in '19 from 67 in '18. I'd expect if they make another jump they might end up around 83 to 85 wins? They could be in the vicinity of wild card contention, maybe they make a bigger jump and make the post season, but I'd bet that the increase is more moderate. Anything can happen though.
  6. MLB news: [Team X] has signed [familiar name] to Big Contract Brewerfan.net: Goes insane, curses owner and management for being cheap (with level headed exceptions) Rinse. Repeat. Sigh.
  7. It doesn't feel real. Sad day for sports. Feel for his family.
  8. I think this reasoning is 100% valid and yet, perhaps irrationally, I still want the guy. However, I'm not going to be even the slightest bit miffed when the Brewers don't sign him. I'm not in the "we need to sign a big name impact bat" camp. As for the Reds I like their potential a lot, I expect improvement from them and think they could have a good season, one where they could contend for 1st place in the division. But outsiders have been thinking that about the Phillies the last couple seasons too and look how far that's gotten them. I don't know if that makes the Phillies or Reds bad teams, they just haven't been good enough teams. So far.
  9. Perhaps Connor is a studious type and finds that the general quiet atmosphere of a library is attractive. And it probably beats the idea of flipping burgers at the local McDonalds. Maybe Swift is a reference to Tom Swift? I read a few of those books when I was a kid in the '80s. I'm not sure how they'd hold up to adult tastes. Well, now that I've looked it up seems like Tom Swift books got a reboot in 2006-07, maybe around the time he was getting into reading as a youth.
  10. Ahh, this is peak schadenfreude. Gives me the warm fuzzies.
  11. Heh and that show premiered 15 years ago. Pressly was younger when that show started (27) than Robbie is now (29).
  12. I guess I needed them explained to me. How might that differ than knowing Cal Ripken played the most consecutive games, or Pete Rose had the most hits? Things people just know without having to look them up.
  13. I won't lie, when news first broke over the last year or so that it wouldn't be Miller Park anymore, I like many others wasn't a fan and it wouldn't have mattered what company would have the new naming rights. It wasn't long after, once I got a little more used to the idea, that I really thought American Family was possibly the best "2nd" choice. Not because I have AmFam insurance (I don't) or feel any particular tie, but it's just the words; American Family. We're Americans, we have families, families go to baseball games together. How do you argue with that? Pretty good name for a ballpark, pretty good name for a company. I'm glad they left the word Insurance out of it as well, that would have changed the feel.
  14. I agree, but it's not exactly a rarity either (not being unanimous). Since the rarity of a unanimous vote became a thing years and years ago, I could sympathize with the angle that a voter didn't think Jeter was worthy of one when others better than him didn't get one. This is all based on him being a Yankee. Everything about it, his first ballot status, the unanimous vote status. If he'd played for a middle America team the level of concern drops by 1000%. Maybe a furor over a player not being voted in unanimously should be reserved for the true best of the best. Record setters, multiple time MVP and Cy Young winners. Players that were clearly the most dominant of their day. Nolan Ryan is like the first guy I think of. Pete Rose on a strictly playing the game scenario. Jeter was a good player that played for the richest, most popular and well known baseball team in the world, and that team won a bunch of titles. Never won a league MVP, never set any records of note. He was an ambassador of the game and wasn't the center of controversy. I think the voters did well by him even if there was one that left him off the ballot.
  15. How many domed parks did you play in as a child? Just playing the semantics game. Also, in a baseball context a field is a field whether there's a roof over it or not. There are still outfielders and players still "take the field" or "field a grounder". Even when it used to be played on Astroturf, in a dome. In an aside, listening to WTMJ radio on the way to work this morning and they were discussing the name change and what to call Miller Park Way going forward and one of them said they could keep the general name but call it Miller Parkway instead. I thought that was a pretty clever solution.
  16. I think the whole "unanimous vote" thing is overblown. The player still gets in the Hall. It doesn't tarnish his career. It doesn't tarnish his Hall of Fame experience. What, he's going to show up at the Hall ceremony and be gloomy and moody because one dude didn't vote for him? LOL get over it. You can ask every person in the world what color the sky is on a clear summer time day at noon and I guarantee 100% of all those billions of people won't say blue. Doesn't affect the correct answer.
  17. Da heck? I thought it was still called Country Stadium.
  18. The Athletic has an article about Robin Yount for their list of 100 greatest baseball players in 100 days, Yount comes in at #66. Subscription required. https://theathletic.com/1544628/2020/01 ... bin-yount/ Fun little tidbit, beginning of the article briefly mentions his brother Larry Yount who was called up to the Houston Astros in 1971, entered a game to pitch his major league debut but noticed that his elbow started hurting while throwing his warm up pitches. He had to leave the game without throwing a pitch, never to return to the big leagues. His official big-league career line: 1 game, 0.0 innings, 0 hits, 0 walks, 0 strikeouts, 0 batters faced. He is the only pitcher in baseball history to have that line. Crazy. I had never heard that story before.
  19. I don't think it helps that they've mostly been bad to mediocre since the 80's. With the exception of the 2000-2001 ECF run with the Allen/Robinson/Cassell big 3 last season was the only other season they've made it past the first round of the playoffs since the '88/'89 season. Advancing past the first round twice in 30 years doesn't inspire a fan base to grow very much.
  20. I believe C.C. Sabathia and Mike Cameron once wore their caps off-center. An image search showed C.C. in a Brewers uniform wearing his hat off-center. I couldn't find an example of Cameron in a Brewers cap doing so but saw him in a Marlins cap with it off-center. Strop and Fernando Rodney are probably the two guys that wear it that way in the most extreme way possible though. I agree, it's just a cap. It's a little jarring but it all comes down to performance.
  21. It would take the mother of all drafts to catch these guys next year. SF was 1-10 in 2017 and ended the season on a 5 game win streak. The 2 year turnaround is absolutely possible.
  22. Feeling nostalgic for the opening drive 3 and out by our defense. Peaked early.

    Pizza

Toppers, their pizza isn't actually very good at all but their Topperstix are still the best thing about that place. Especially dipping it in their nacho cheese sauce, it's like crack.
  24. My prediction is Cora gets a multiple year ban. He's essentially been credited as the mastermind of all this and, presumably, used these tactics with 2 teams, both of which won the World Series. I honestly wonder if Cora will ever be hired as a manager again. If he does manage again I think it might be several years before he's given the opportunity.
  25. They let Gaylord Perry enter Cooperstown after throwing spitters for years... That's an interesting point, but do you think Sammy Sosa would be in the HoF right now if the worst thing he'd done was get caught using a corked bat? I think he would be. He's not in because of his connection to PEDs. I think the old school forms of cheating, spitters, scuffed balls, pine tar, etc. are viewed the same as the old school no-tech versions of stealing signs. Maybe not viewed quite the same, traditional forms of sign stealing I feel is a little more accepted and there's probably not a level of shame to getting "caught" doing it as there is for that other stuff, but it's in the same ballpark in my mind. I think this goes above and beyond those techniques, especially because it can be directly tied to using those techniques in a World Series. Twice. I don't know that I've heard of any other cheating scandal directly tied to a World Series other than the Black Sox scandal and those dudes suffered big penalties.
