  1. I get it, I've had my moments of exasperation with Thames too, he's extremely streaky. They're playing the Reds so there's hope he wakes up to hit some bombs against his favorite opponent.
  2. Thames had 107 ABs going into tonight's game and he's been back from the DL for about 2 weeks now. He might deserve a little more time before giving up on him.
  3. For those of us on Gameday only, what the heck happened? Votto complained about a strike call, Kratz had something to say about it and Votto had some things to say back to Kratz. Benches and bullpens clear, nothing happens.
  4. Lol Aggie and Blandino just with their arms around each other
  5. I have it on good authority that Shaw will hit 2 home runs to prove he's really ready to come back today.
  6. Yes, this. The reason the Brewers would trade for deGrom is not only because he's a stud that helps get you to the playoffs, it's because in the playoffs a patchwork rotation of #3 starters goes from being a manageable situation to a giant weakness. Aces are for winning playoff games. This is the part that resonates with me from that ESPN article: Unlike some, giving up Hiura isn't the part that gets stuck in my throat. I'd give him up in a second for deGrom. Giving up Burnes and Peralta makes it harder to swallow. Gotta keep one of those two guys, right now I lean keeping Peralta simply because of what he's shown in his 4 starts with the big club. So Hiura, Burnes, Santana if that's what they want and instead of Peralta give them another pitching piece and I'm 100% in. If Hiura becomes the 2nd coming of Jose Altuve, well, we can cry in our beer about that down the road I guess. It's my belief offense is easier to acquire than pitching and I'm not convinced Hiura is a great fit for the NL game. I legitimately worry about his defense. Don't get me wrong I'm drooling over the possibilities of when Hiura's ready to join the Brewers, I just have enough doubts where he's not untouchable to me. At the same time, if this is still a package Stearns feels is too much and would rather pass, I'm ok with that too. I'm for the trade but if the consolation prize is we keep our prospects that's not something I'll be mad about. Stearns has a better feel for what types of moves might or might not work out better for this team. If we hear no big rumors connecting deGrom to the Brewers there's a reason.
  7. I think Shaw has to be in that group too. When the offense has been as anemic as this one has been Shaw is just as important as Cain, Aguilar and Yelich. I think the importance of those 4 guys gets magnified really. wRC+ / (Plate Appearances) Cain 129 (312 PA) Aguilar 160 (237 PA) Yelich 126 (296 PA) Shaw 118 (296 PA) Everyone else above 100 has significantly fewer plate appearances. Thames at 128 (122 PA) is probably close-ish but way too few PAs to be sure, Braun at 98 (226 PA) could be better and Villar at 84 (239 PA) is meh but ok considering his role. Holy Schnikes but Aguilar has been impressive. He's putting up near Freddie Freeman type production albeit in 100 fewer ABs. Keep it up big guy!
  8. Seconding a previous poster, I can't fathom how they didn't decide to cancel this game sooner. What the actual heck Pissburgh? Your tunnels are flooding with poop water, and you're like "what the heck, let's try to get this one in!" I laughed way too hard and way too long at this. I'm still chuckling a little to be honest.
  9. Braun pinch hit for the pitcher in the 9th last night and grounded out. My guess is it's because he has 2 hits in his last 18 ABs with no walks and CC wants to get Thames in the lineup without benching Aguilar.
  10. I hope they put him in and he blows it just for you. But seriously, the Knebel hate on this board is comical. It's not a good look. Yes I'm judging you.
  11. I read this in the Chicago Tribune about that base running play Cain orchestrated last night: I think that's my favorite thing about that play now. His kids get to see how big a deal their dad is.
  12. They could be giving Miller some time in the minors to reacquaint himself with playing SS. That was my guess since he hasn't played there since 2016.
  13. Look, no way in hell is he close to second base. I could have known that with a blindfold on. Certainly, I don't need Arcia to be crying as Villar said (odd for him to say that). Zobrist is 37 years old. It was a completely asinine decision by him to run. Speedsters like Cain wouldn't even tag up. Zobrist must have seen the mass confusion out in the outfield between Yelich and Cain and figured that maybe Cain wouldn't be on the pivoted foot to get a lot on the throw. While Zobrist was partially correct as Cain didn't get as much on the throw as he could have, everyone in the stands knew the 37 yo Zobrist simply was a gifted double play and poor base running and not EVER be close to second. Nobody ever is, never mind a old guy like Zobrist. Certainly, Villar didn't need Arcia screaming at him. That said, the ball was there in plenty of time, and Villar panicked and assumed Zobrist was Bob Hayes and he dropped the ball. Sad. What Arcia did by yelling "tag!" is how baseball players across all talent levels play the game. They communicate, often in one word phrases. Like I said, it's rare for a guy to try to take 2nd on a fly out. Arcia should just keep his yap shut? That's insane. These guys don't have time to shout a full sentence of information to each other, yelling "tag!" expresses exactly what's going on to the defender that has his back to the play while waiting to receive the ball. It's not an excuse for dropping the ball. Blame Villar, sure. Blame Arcia? That's extreme reaching. And "cry" is a synonym for yell or shout. English is not Villar's first language, it's understandable he might not use the exact word a native speaker would in that situation.
  14. I don't necessarily think Villar was making excuses for his flub, just going through what happened. But in general I agree, it's the big leagues, pressure comes with the job. In the end Villar's misplay paired with Hader's inability to retire Hayward in a lefty vs. lefty matchup only resulted in 1 run. It was a big run but it didn't kill the Brewers chances to win the game. What kind of irks me is when you read the AP game recap Zobrist's decision to tag up from first base isn't even mentioned. If Villar fields it cleanly Zobrist is out by a mile and how much are Cubs fans crying out for Zobrist to be benched for that decision? The only reason it looks good is because it worked, but it was a terrible base running play in my book. The one sliver of hope in the decision process is you force the defense to execute, which ultimately they didn't, but it wasn't going to be a close play, it was entirely reliant on a bad throw or bobble. I'm not sure you go for broke in the top of the 8th just to get 2nd base on a 1st out fly out and risk 2 outs nobody on.
  15. I've read enough. He signed an official admission of guilt. Could that have been a decision to avoid a worse sentence? Sure. Only people that know for sure is the guy and the victim. He admitted guilt. Everything else is excuses.
  16. All I'll say about the Heimlich thing is that he is a free man, clear of the law and served his time. I'm not going to feel the least bit sorry for the guy if he never plays for a Major League baseball team or its affiliate because he did something in the past and his actions had these consequences. He still gets to live his life prison free. Not everyone in his situation is as lucky.
  17. I kinda prefer not to mother full grown adults. Sure we can strap on knee pads, elbow pads and safety goggles for every little risk but a guy playing in the ASG is an experience I wouldn't want to deny any player just for purely selfish fan reasons. How often is a guy like Hader (or to a lesser extent Jeffress) going to have this chance as a non-closing relief pitcher? We'd all love to be able to say Hader will continue to be all-star worthy for seasons to come but there's really no certainty of that happening for one reason or another. Heck, the wheels could fall off in the next month and he'd be out of the running because he couldn't maintain his performance level. I will gladly take the risk of him pitching an inning in a meaningless exhibition game if it means he's continued to be a baseball unicorn when the voting ends.
  18. It's called Adaptive (or Autonomous) Cruise Control. I have it on my Jeep Grand Cherokee and use it all the time. It will slow you down to the slower speeds and still speed back up but it isn't intended for stop and go traffic. Mine isn't anyway. Some car models do offer the stop and go but they're the luxury brands, Audi, Volvo, BMW etc. You need to do your homework to check which version a particular car has if you are in the market for a new vehicle. To be honest once it gets down around 10 mph or slower I just kill the cruise and operate it normally anyway. But I'm not in a big city so haven't really been tempted or had much opportunity to test it in heavy slow traffic. Other minor annoyances, on the freeway the cruise keeps you a safe distance away from the car in front of you but then other drivers think that gap is fair game and will cut in front of you, causing the cruise system to slow down even more to allow for the new vehicle in front of you. If your goal is to just keep up with traffic you'll end up cancelling the cruise and driving normally anyway, at least until the traffic lightens up a bit and there aren't as many drivers willing to cut you off. Overall, great feature and I love it. It only gets annoying in certain situations but that's not really a fault of the feature itself.
  19. Folks should go look up Kenley Jansen's game logs this season. Knebel just needs to get his feet under him, and maybe a longer leash than 10 innings where even his blown saves have been limited to 1 run tie games that were salvaged for wins instead of resulting in immediate losses.
