  1. I definitely see your point, but I do think it is a little different in this case, specifically for Counsell. It seems to be acknowledged that players' careers could end at any moment, so they need to get their money while they can. Yes, this could theoretically happen for a manager as well, but in Counsell's case, I think he is guaranteed to have a longer leash given his past success (whereas sometimes players' just fall off very quickly). Given that there isn't much loyalty from players (which we have seen all too often in Milwaukee), the fact that Milwaukee had a manager who grew up rooting for the Brewers and was "one of us" as the commercial goes, I think it just stings that much more - more than if a player who just happened to be drafted here were to leave for more money. On top of that, to hear Craig's comments that the Cubs' job was his "dream"... it just feels like he's turning his back on Milwaukee when he knows firsthand what it's like for a small market team. I'm not really disagreeing with you - if Craig wants to raise the floor of managers' salaries and get as much as he can, that's his right (and one he has definitely earned). But I think it's also the fans' right to feel slighted by this given his history and past comments about how special it is to manage the Brewers. As some said, I don't hate the guy... but I am definitely rooting against him now given the background and his choice.
  2. Just saw a tweet from Todd Rosiak that there is no expectation right now as to when/if a deal with Sanchez might be done. I thought that was interesting... something must be holding it up.
  3. I would assume they would not want to do the max void restructure on every player possible, as that just kicks the can further down the road where the bill will eventually come due. And I would assume that Love's new contract will have bigger cap hits in the future as well compared to what it will be in 2024.
  4. I think Cooper and Santana are a little underwhelming (unless they make a flashier move as well). I'm hoping they are going after someone that would make a bigger difference first, like Hoskins... while also keeping tabs on guys like Cooper/Santana as a fallback option. Otherwise, I'm not sure what the hold up would be since you wouldn't think there would be too much standing in their way of signing one of those two.
  5. It's interesting that so many teams are in the mix for Cease (Yankees, Orioles, Dodgers, Cardinals, Red Sox), yet there doesn't seem to be much news about Burnes. You would think those same teams would be trying to get Burnes, especially once Cease is dealt... unless every team thinks the Brewers are asking for too much for a 1 year rental. It also could just be the case that most news about the Brewers only comes out after a transaction has been finalized (or very close to completed), so we just aren't hearing what teams are in the mix. Still it's interesting that so many teams are still targeting top SPs... gives me hope that the Brewers can still deal Burnes for a good haul.
  6. Burnes just confirmed today that he would essentially need to be blown away by an offer in order to sign an extension before his free agency next winter... so that probably hurts the Brewers' leverage in trade talks as well.
  7. For those who have been to previous fanfest autograph sessions, do they let you bring in your own items to have signed? I am planning on bringing my son to this one, so just curious if we should bring items to sign, or if they will only sign items provided at the event.
  8. Based on CBS' free agent tracker, the Brewers have now signed the 12th and 19th best free agents... after hearing about how they didn't have any money. They'll never spend like the top teams, but I don't think we can complain when there are a lot teams not really even trying. Regardless of how you feel about JBJ, I don't think it's fair to say the Brewers aren't spending.
  9. And just after I posted that, I see the Brewers are in the mix for Jackie Bradley Jr. Hmm... not sure what that means....
  10. Agreed, I’m not sure if those are enough of an upgrade over the current options. That allows them to hopefully use the remaining budget to upgrade in-season. I read Boxberger has looked good so far, so that would help.
  11. According to Jon Heyman, Brewers made a good try for Rosenthal (have you heard that before?), so there must have been a good offer rather than just checking in. So Brewers would clearly still like to upgrade the bullpen... is there anyone left that would be a big upgrade? Is Greene the best remaining?
  12. Rich Hill close to an agreement with the Rays
  13. "The #Brewers definitely the underdog here since the Dodgers have "home field" advantage. Turner could be using them to drive up LA's offer. All Milwaukee can do is make honest attempt. Player always knows where he wants to go." Haudicourt of course has to be the party pooper. Probably realistic though, but annoying that all we seem to hear lately is that teams use the Brewers to drive up other offers.
  14. At least Brewers are hopeful and have offered a multi year deal. Kind of surprised that Turner hasn’t already signed with the Dodgers if they have a multi year deal on the table as well. So maybe a 2 year deal with LA and a 3 year deal from the Brewers?
  15. He was asked if he would consider a reunion or if he had bad memories... he responded no bad memories (not “no. Bad memories.”) At this point, I don’t think he would be picky, especially when he says he had the most fun he’s had as a Brewer. That said, I’m not sure if I would be all that excited about a reunion. He was great for those two years, but just doesn’t appear to be the same. As a few others said, I think I’d rather see what we have in Urias. Maybe as a very cheap option to backup 1B/3B.
  16. “Andrew Friedman says that the signing of Trevor Bauer doesn't have an impact on bringing back third baseman Justin Turner, praising Turner for what he has meant to the organization, while stressing they still are hungry for another World Series title.” What most of us thought, but still annoying to read.
  17. Agreed. While it might be a little risky for a team like the Brewers to sign Turner for 3 years, I think it’s a risk they need to take given the current state of the team and the farm system. As someone stated earlier, if Turner was 30 years old, the Brewers couldn’t afford him... so you have to accept some risk at this point. Could it backfire in 2 years? Possibly, but with fans back in the stands at some point (hopefully) and higher revenue, it’s not likely to hurt the Brewers all that much compared to other potential deals. I’m not really sure what better alternative they would have going forward.
