  1. Jenkins has really had some important hits for the Brewers this year. I hope this works to finally dispel the "only hits them when it's irrelevant" argument that pops up here from time to time. Last night was without doubt the most entertaining Brewer game of the year, from my perspective. It was an electric playoff atmosphere, had a bunch of storylines (Glavine, the Cubs winning, Prince getting hit) and ended with a bang. I love baseball.
  2. Certainly the best game of the year so far. Felt like a playoff atmosphere.
  3. Claudio "I can't get past 6 IP" Vargas Although he did go 8 last time.. This is an example of a tragic case of pre-mature nicknaming before the season progressed, similar to JJ "MVP" Hardy or Tony "Carew" Gwynn Jr. Luckily Johnny "Noodle Arm" Estrada has worked out.
  4. I've been contemplating how ironic it would be to have the best game of a year on the day there's not an in-game thread.
  5. Just for kicks, I did a little looking what the AZ statute is. Here's a link an attorney has up describing 1st degree murder in AZ. www.dmcantor.com/arizona-law/First%20Degree%20Murder/?ID=51 Looks to me like the guy in the car is out of luck. Death occured in the context of an unlawful flight from a pursuing law enforcement vehicle. There's no intent element to a felony murder charge (as usually the death isn't the intended crime anyways) and each death is going to qualify as a separate 1st degree homicide. The lack of intent to kill is going to be treated as a statutory mitigating factor in AZ, which will likely get the death penalty out of the picture. AZ Felony Murder Case Law Whether this guy is morally culpable or not is a good question; I don't think there's a whole lot of argument that he's not exposed under AZ law. I agree with the sentiment that the news coverage of these things is ridiculous, but I'm not sure what really can be done about that. I think the government could probably restrict the helicopters to a more reasonable distance, but trying to prevent non-police helicopters from following these things completely would probably fail on 1st Am. grounds.

  7. I'm shocked that we're on page 2 and none of the resident line-up critiquers has posted Yost yet.
  8. Once is not enough for this guy. http://www.jsonline.com/graphics/sports/brew/img/may03/alex507.jpg Also http://graphics.jsonline.com/graphics/sports/brew/img/jul02/rq730.jpg which reminds me of the funniest thing Daron Sutton ever said. It was a spring training game, and Bill said "What's the natural enemy of bratwurst". Daron waited exactly 3.5 seconds then replied in a serious tone "Ruben Quevedo". Pure gold.
  9. Weathers can't be available...can he?
  10. I'd be concerned that if Jenkins goes (which as some pointed out is likely) we only have one real lefty batting threat in the lineup. Really makes me think about trying to overpay Griffey to play here for a couple of years until we move to Hart Hall LaPorta.
  11. I think you're dead on here. Brewers already have a 13 man staff, and Gwynn > Hall just makes sense.
  12. I was thinking of Capuano or Bush when this was proposed because i feel that the Mariners are looking to compete soon, so might take a less talented SP with a major league track record. I wouldn't give up Parra or Inman for a catcher. It takes a tremendous upgrade offensively to justify giving up a talented SP for a position player who plays 60% of the time.
  13. If we're going to take a 3rd catcher it better be a defensive specialist who we can put in late in games to slow down the running attacks of likely playoff teams such as the Mets or Angels. That would also allow aYost to pinch hit Miller against lefty specialists.
  14. FWIW I saw Jeff Clement play while he was a Timber Rattler. I recall him having a good approach at the plate and good power. I think a starter for a starter not named Ben, Yovanni, Manny, Carlos, or Will would work with me. (I also thought Matt Clement when I read this title TC.
  15. Does Ryan Braun have a twin brother named Rick who has a Goatee and can play corner outfield? The picture of Harang indicates that he holds the ball in the wrong hand to make Mench playing a good idea.
  16. It'll make me feel even better if they deal away Griffey and Dunn
  17. Mark A. going retro. I wonder if the Brewer's Fan shop dresses him.
  18. What cruel irony to remove Matt Wise from the basepaths in such short order.
  19. If Manny doesn't get in this game, he's not going to pitch ever.
  20. Team "Forfeit" has done a great job today. Braun + Fielder = 1-7, 1 BB, 1 RBI. Everything else has come from Counsell Jenks Graffy Gwynn and Estrada
  21. Jenks is having a good game today as well. Great at bat.
  22. Cincinatti decided against doing the deal after calculating the number of salad tongs in the city.
  23. I wonder how Dustin Nippert feels having to come on to pitch to Braun with two men on base.
  24. Counsell has grittily battled his way into a great game. WARNING: DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY INTO THE GRIT
