  1. Run should count. While a run can never score on a double play ending in a force play, touching the bag behind a runner is not considered a force play: From the official rules on MLB website. Comment to force play A FORCE PLAY is a play in which a runner legally loses his right to occupy a base by reason of the batter becoming a runner. Rule 2.00 (Force Play) Comment: Confusion regarding this play is removed by remembering that frequently the “force” situation is removed during the play. Example: Man on first, one out, ball hit sharply to first baseman who touches the bag and batter-runner is out. The force is removed at that moment and runner advancing to second must be tagged. If there had been a runner on third or second, and either of these runners scored before the tag-out at second, the run counts. Had the first baseman thrown to second and the ball then had been returned to first, the play at second was a force out, making two outs, and the return throw to first ahead of the runner would have made three outs. In that case, no run would score. Example: Not a force out. One out. Runner on first and third. Batter flies out. Two out. Runner on third tags up and scores. Runner on first tries to retouch before throw from fielder reaches first baseman, but does not get back in time and is out. Three outs. If, in umpire’s judgment, the runner from third touched home before the ball was held at first base, the run counts. Somebody on the Nationals should bring out a copy of the rulebook.
  2. If the Cardinals, defenders of all things class, wish to make the Brewers their instrument of vengence for class-related violations I'm all for it. I'd be happy to have the Brewers 'punish' a few more classless offenders with sweeps.
  3. I wonder if the Brewers will retaliate or not to the inevitable beaning. I like the recent attitude of "retaliate on the field" of the team. (See: Fielder, Prince)
  4. I'm not alone!
  5. I could see Brooks being asked to throw BP for the team. Seems like a quality individual to have around the team. Maybe he could be the new "Pitcher's Hitting Coach".
  6. So last Tuesday in celebration of the Brewers turnaround, my wife and I grilled steak before the game. The Brewers won. The next night I felt like steak, so we had it again and the Brewers won again. Thursday I ordered a steak sandwich at lunch and the Brewers won. Long story short, I've decided not to mess with what's working and have consumed steak of some sort every day since last Tuesday in order to keep the streak alive. I'm planning on continuing until the Brewers either lose or I have a heart attack from high cholesterol. Maybe its because I used to play but I'm superstitious. Anyone else ever do something ridiculous in order to not mess with a winning streak?
  7. Opening Day line-up Weeks Fielder Gallardo Braun Hart Hardy Hall Cameron Kendall
  8. Stealing from the poor and giving to the incompetent? Just plain awful.
  9. Sad to hear JP is leaving, hadn't heard that until today. Who is replacing him?
  10. I, (like maybe some others here) simply can't focus on the Brewers during the offseason. (I've been watching my playoff thunder tube slowly deflate). However, now that i've watched the Bob Uecker winter warmup on cable, spring training is in full swing, and I've paid for my tix for the year i'm feeling behind the times in my Brewers-related knowledge. i'm wondering if any of you hardcore off-season brewerfan.net'ers would be willing to post a recap of what you think the major themes to watch for during ST and the begining of the season are. As a hardcore 8 month/yr fan I'd be eternally grateful.
  11. It makes me feel somewhat pathetic that I specifically recall that game from 3 years ago.
  12. I'm sure Eyre will be able to survive with the income stream he has, even with extensive liabilities, cash flow (income) is king in today's lending environment. I don't think we should be overly harsh on him for not diversifying his assets; we as a society provide absolutely no financial education to non-business majors. This guy's focus has been sports...it makes sense that he'd trust his assets to a "professional" money manager. We really need to do more to teach everyone about basic tenets of finacial stability (diversification).
  13. I would be interested to know whether Prince's batspeed has dropped at all this year. It's entirely possible that the change in diet has caused some problems, especially if he's not being disciplined and "cheating" on what the dieticians have told him. (it's difficult to be a vegetarian with a lot of fast-twitch muscle)
  14. I called the season ticket office the other day on something unrelated (I have a 20 pack) and the recording said the 9 pack mailing would go out after September 5 (the due date for 20 packs)
  15. Five months and two days after I started this thread I finally watch my first FSN HD game on my 61" home TV. Beautiful. I'm happy, annoyed, and impressed all at the same time.
  16. I was at the game, so I couldn't type this in chat. MOTA-TIME!!! MOTA'd!!! MOTA'd!!! MOTA'd!!!
  17. I disagree both with running CC out there until the end of the game in a blowout and also with failing to alter the rotation to allow CC/Sheets more starts. It simply does not make sense that additional starts on 5 days rest would be too dangerous but having your ace throw 130+ pitches in a game that you have no real shot of losing is acceptable.
  18. Come on guys, win one for the Fonz! (Henry Winkler in attendance tonight)
  19. The Branyan intentional walk was motivated entirely by the pitcher's fear generated when Branyan was taking his cuts in the on-deck circle. No need for logic or statistics.
  20. Mike Rivera for backup catcher 2008. FREE RIVERA!!!! (and the Nats want no part of 3TO. I love it)
  21. I don't think the issue is that he's playing counsell...but WHERE he's playing him and who he's replacing. I'd have no qualms with Craig getting some starts at the defensively crucial 2B spot, especially considering Weeks/Durham < Hall/Branyan offensively. Counsell probably can play 1B better than Fielder....should he play there next? Maybe throw Kapler in for Braun? Can Counsell pitch? ------------------------------------------ http://www.brewerfan.net/images/icons/lock.gifLocked. We'll go with the flow with Yost threads for the time being. If a new one needs to be 'designated," it'll be added to the list. --1992casey ------------------------------------------
  22. FTJ is on fire. I had no idea that was all he was played at the MLB level.
  23. Not only starting at 3rd...but in the 6 hole when Rickie is leading off. Utter lunacy.
  24. Good lord.....Counsell playing over Branyan and in the 6 hole. Weeks leading off... Complete and utter lunacy.
