  1. They probably get Aguilar at home if Shaw doesn't show up there. I'll take two outs and a run over one out and no run.
  2. Yeah, my sense is they're more willing to sacrifice infield defense when there's a flyball or strikeout pitcher on the mound. If they're cycling through pitchers, they wouldn't have that. At least not consistently.
  3. Starting Jennings dares STL to change their lineup to deal with a lefty. Meanwhile, the Brewers still have multiple lefties for situational relief later on. Like it. Tentatively. I'm intrigued, more than anything.
  4. Are we going to see a Rays-style “opener”? Sure seems possible.
  5. That is what I wanted to see from Albers: absolutely nothing to suggest he might have figured it out. See you next year.
  6. Zobrist.
  7. I might need medical staff on hand, but it’d be a heck of a series.
  8. The Cubs offense scares me enough that it’d take maybe a 6-run lead to feel comfortable.
  9. Cubs may face Scherzer on Thursday, too. :heart-eyes:
  10. Chase at Wrigley doesn't sound like fun.
  11. I'm digging owbc's idea to play up the rivalry. It ain't goin' away. Might as well have some fun with it. They could produce some video board content for these series, "The Cubs Fan's Guide To A Real Ballpark". Do it in the style of the pre-flight videos where the flight attendants show how to use flotation devices. Show Cubs fans how to use non-trough urinals, how to not spill beer on small children, how to assess whether a fly ball may or may not be a home run, and so on. Playing up mutual contempt for the Cardinals might be fun, too. We do have some common ground.
  12. I can see why it might seem like a good idea to change the subject when you don't do a good job at work, Cole.
  13. 1. Be in the mix for a playoff spot. 2. Build the farm back up a little bit. I want them looking at a multi-year rolling window of competitiveness, never selling the whole farm to make a push, usually being in the mix and playing meaningful baseball in September, even if this all means they’re never the runaway favorite for the division. Right now it sure looks like they’ll be in the mix for the next couple of years. So what I’d like to see is some nice new seeds planted and some present seeds growing at the lower levels of the farm.
  14. Lyles was the #1 Astros prospect back in 2011, at least according to John Sickels: https://www.minorleagueball.com/2010/12/28/1900512/houston-astros-top-20-prospects-for-2011 The list of guys lower on that list is entertaining.
  15. Thinking about depth and the strategy of twice through the order for SPs and then turning to a top-notch bullpen and doing enough double switching to basically have a DH... I've been poking around looking at team PH stats. The Brewers are one of the better pinch-hitting teams in the majors by many metrics: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaderssplits.aspx?splitArr=94&strgroup=season&statgroup=2&startDate=2018-03-01&endDate=2018-11-01&filter=&position=B&statType=team&autoPt=false&players=&pg=0&pageItems=30&sort=14,1 So. Depth. Bullpen. Quasi-DH. Yep. I dig it.
  16. This move feels like a boost to the floor more than the ceiling. It's not flashy. It'll be an improvement, but in less obvious ways. It means more rest for guys like Shaw and Aguilar, and another option to play with if Aguilar's little slump continues or if anybody in the infield gets hurt, and better options for pinch hitting matchups and matchups in general. The little voice in my head asking "where's everybody gonna play" sounds an awful lot like the one at the beginning of the season asking the same question about the outfield. I do still worry about the defense a bit. But hope springs attorney.
