  1. i think the players do their best its just that we have zero bullpen other than Hader, Jeffries and Burne. Williams is about 2 years away from being solid, Albers has always had tough times, and jennings is a glorified Barnes. Soria is tolerable. That 15 inning game just shelved our best relievers, but we got the win. We have all our best relievers available today so we should be in good shape. Especially with a quality pitcher like Archer. We hit the hell out of great pitchers but cant hit the #2,, or 3s too well. The team has been ahead i think in most of their games in august, we just lack a bullpen.
  2. Since June we arent even .500. We are now in "must win" territory. The good news is that even if we finish 15 games back of the cubbies, all we gotta do is make sure we finish ahead of the rockies.
  3. Question, are you a Brewer fan? You say this in just about every thread. We get it. What you don't mention are the moves where Theo is blowing 34M a year on Darvish and Chatwood. Stearns would not have the luxury of making other moves if he did that as there would be no money left to spend. Brewer fan and season ticket holder. what is your point? I read the same comments about every game or player daily. If I repeated myself about stearns then maybe its because every time i see hamels win another game for the cubs it reminds me how stearns didnt want to give up a top 5 prospect to get a solid playoff team. We had clear and present bullpen problems yet we go cheap and get soria. Cleveland goes aggressive AGAIN and gives up a #1 prospect and #17 on the pipeline for Hand to stabilize their pen. And they gave up a #1 prospect to get Miller in 16. All the gurus said we couldnt make a trade because we didnt wanna give up a top dude. Never mind cheap rentals like Murphy that the Cubs also got at 2nd base. WTH? The only credit Ill give stearns is that we truly are set up for next year. Our farm system and OD roster will be solid. And once again we will have super prospects to trade. As long as we dont waive or trade future studs like scooter or kris davis for fake players.
  4. Stearns and management let the team down. Once again, Theo Epstein shows us why he can consistently make all the right moves but Stears cant pull triggers because he is too tight. Not saying Stearns is awful but he isnt Theo or other managers who get the best deals to secure a playoff spot.
  5. Cubs changed their season around when they got hammals. Toss in Murphy and its easy to see how Theo is at the top of his profession. Stearns is ok as well but there is a reason why the Cubs are in the playoffs all the time with theo and we dont wanna pull triggers and go conservative and dont make it. No pitcher help plus schoop is a bust, so much that arcia regained his spot. Sad
  6. OT: why did we trade Kris Davis, who is leading the league in homers, for nottingham? Is Nottingham suppose to be a stud?
  7. could we use harvey? Yes. Sorry, woodruff is 2 years away and Burnes maybe 1. We are talking about the playoffs and im not sure Peralta is ready for that. He wont be pitching against a Reds team down Suaez and Votto. We could use Harvey in long relief in the playoffs. Williams is 2 years away.
  8. bats been doin pretty good lately. Just continue keeping LHP away from us and we will be fine.
  9. im really surprised Thames isnt in the lineup. Isnt he 2 for 2 against this pitcher with 2 homeruns? Must be his day of rest since he played yesterday Sad.
  10. im really surprised Thames isnt in the lineup. Isnt he 2 for 2 against this pitcher with 2 homeruns? Must be his day of rest since he played yesterday Sad.
  11. we have to be almost certain that we will get a picture by next week, right?
  12. I thought it made good sense. It didnt work out. Look, other than Hader and Jeffries, our BP fell apart. What do you want counsell to do? It wont get any better when the B leaguer Soria comes back. Stearns gets Soria for a song, tribe gets Hand, Cubs get hammal, cards, etc everyone giving up good prospects but what are we waiting for? Typical brewers, go cheap when playoffs on the line. And we have to watch Scooter beat us and Kris Davis smack 35 HR already.....both brewers who stearns let go. Sad.
  13. everyone but stearns realizes we need a SP. Zimmerman cleared waivers. Asolid pitcher on a crap team. Just beat the Cubs again. Sign him up. He will be a rental. If we dont get another SP, we will fade. Davies will be back but we need someone with playoff wins like zimmerman.
  14. Probably because everyone knows the Nats are going to ask for more than most teams would be willing to pay. It's a weird situation because they didn't decide to sell until after the non-waiver deadline, but now that they've decide to be sellers, they're still in a position to ask a lot. Kind of a perfect storm for blockbuster waiver deals. I love that the Cubs continue to be ridiculously all-in in a season in which they probably had an 80% chance of winning the division anyway. They're really slamming face-first into a wall of diminishing returns on their win-now moves. Classic Theo, pedal to the floor at all times...until you've used up all the resources. Then leave and move on to the next big market team in a favorable situation. they didnt pay or give much. There is a reason why the Cubs are in the playoffs every year under Theo. There is also a reason why our crew isnt. Other teams chase their money and push themselves in the playoffs with waiver moves. KC and cleveland are 2 small market teams that did this successfully for ws games.
  15. It remains to be seen if he blew it. Obviously, they stood down thus far. We were the #1 team in the NL but other teams upgraded and have seemingly passed us. Doesnt look good for us but we do have a weak schedule coming up and maybe we can get hot in October.
  16. me too. $3500 LDB was avg $141 per ticket for all potential games. That seemed pretty steep so im probably going to pass.
  17. Chacin did not do bad as he did not participate in the game today. Guerra however was pretty bad. Probably not as bad as his line indicates, but still pretty bad. Given the kind of urgency that even some Brewers said they needed to approach Game 2 with, I'm surprised you would be anticipating positive comments about moral victories after what is essentially a double damage loss as far as the division race goes. Oh, no moral victory. But we just got beat. We played hard but the better team won today. It happens. We are in good shape and will be fine. Gotta take care of business against the cards. I like the way we are playing. Just because we lost didnt mean we didnt have a sense of urgency. We played good but things just didnt fall our way.
  18. really strange negative comments on this board. From my perspective, we hit the ball hard as hell after the second inning but lady luck was on cubbies side. Chacin didnt do bad but the cubs got tons of cheap hits. Cubs beat us but give them credit for making the plays. I honestly liked the way we hit but few fell.
  19. why didnt we get a solid pitcher ? Giving up 8 runs a game in auguat has us as the worst era for the month. Time to pull the trigger. Davies isnt the answer. He will get smacked around too.
  20. That's what I worry about, even if we make the postseason, it's very likely a WC, is it worth it if we don't win the WC game? Losing one or two of those guys isn't a huge deal, losing all of them hurts the farm system quite a bit. Is this what's going to be done the next few years if this team stays competitive? If so this isn't the Stearns approach I expected and nothing's really changed. We were the best team in the NL and should have secured our position by trading our #1 or #2. Thats what teams do to go to the series. Instead we went cheap like we always do this time of the year and didnt get a solid Ace. Sorry but Soria isnt gonna get us there. Defrom
  21. It's not being a sports fan, it's being a fan of this team. They have been in prime contention for the postseason and collapsed in the 2nd half in '98, '99, '01, '06, '07, '08(luckily the Mets collapsed harder), '09, '14, '17, likely '18. A couple more years of bottoming out could've gone a long way, instead they won't have any more top picks anytime soon and they've already started to gut the farm on rentals. They dont have the money so they never take the risk, exception when we got CC. But we shouldda got DeGrom. Instead, we lose. Wait till next year.
  22. The thing that really burns me about CC is his babying of Hader. He condescendingly tells fans/reporters that he can't pitch in 90 games but we're 75% of the way into the season and Hader only has 38 appearences. For someone who CC has adamantly said he only comes in with a lead, he sure doesn't have alot of appearences pitching for a team that has the second most wins in the NL. Perhaps if he had more regular work he wouldn't be giving up as many runs as he has been lately. Hader goes from being a starter to now only pitching one inning then sticking in barnes or knebel to blow leads. Insanity. And btw, peralta is an awesome prospect but relying on him for our playoff chances is insane. Our pitching has finally collapsed and our team era is fading. Hell, at this point maybe we just scrap the season and play for next year?
  23. You might want to see him pitch against another offense before making that conclusion.... The Clown Car Offense can make any pitcher look like Cy Young... No kidding. We made the Padre Pitchers on 2 nights look like Sandy K and Bob Lemon. If we dont hit Homers, we dont get runs because we get too many Ks to string hits in for runs. Brewers went cheap. They need to get rid of their top prospects for a playoff chance otherwise we finish 5 games out of the WC.
  24. Another problem we have is too many strikeouts. Anytime we have 10+ strikeouts like yesterday against cruddy pitching, it will neutralize hits and the only way we will be able to score is by HR. Not sure what the hitting coach does but our strikeouts over the last 3 years just kills us. We had like 10 hits yesterday but all wiped out by Ks. Our pitching coach needs to help us out and get the players to put the ball in play.
