  1. It's a very positive sign that they're targeting guys like that.
  2. I think Urias and Adames have that type of ability, but they need to decide whether they are power guys or OBP guys. By all appearances, they want to be power guys, at least right now. That might very well be organizational philosophy as opposed to personal choice. And I think the debate will rage on as to whether or not it will get them to the ultimate goal.
  3. I think letting Garcia walk after the season just became a much easier decision. This team desperately lacks a guy that can rack up base hits. Sure a lineup with its highest batting average topping out in the mid .270's isn't necessarily reflective of its ability to score runs if the batters can slug and draw walks. But it would be nice to at least have one friggin' bat that you have hope for getting a base hit when runners are on base. It's called balance.
  4. Monday morning quarterbacking? Before that inning started you were already pining for Counsell to remove Peralta. Of course you're going to defend it regardless of how poorly it worked out because you didn't want Atlanta getting more looks at him. That's despite the fact he's had no trouble either this year or in his entire career the 3rd time through. It's also despite the fact that Atlanta wasn't exactly haven't much success against him. And it also ignores the fact that the alternatives to giving Atlanta repeat looks against Peralta were sending in guys the Braves had already seen this series. Some of us expressed not wanting Peralta to be pulled early BEFORE that situation even came up. Some of us look awfully correct right now. You look awfully incorrect right now so you call it MMQB'ing. Because it's a convenient deflection.
  5. Would any of you have agreed with Counsell had that been Burnes or Woodruff? Because Freddy has been battling them statistically all year. And he's been better than both of them the 3rd time through the order. The only reason anyone thinks that decision was acceptable is because so many still can't grasp how good Peralta has become. It's indefensible and likely will go down as the moment when the season ended.
  6. You don't have 3 aces when you treat one of them like a 5th starter. Freddy delivered all year and they pull him when his stuff was as good as it's been all season.
  7. Like that Joc Peterson guy. Counsell blew this one, no other way to look at it. He's a great manager but this one was a really stupid decision.
  8. Got people talking about multiple looks. Did we forget the looks the Braves got on Houser in game 1?
  9. Sure wish Peralta was still pitching. Don't know how anyone can be ok with this.
  10. No way Counsell does that with either Burnes or Woodruff yet both are worse the 3rd time through the order than Peralta.
  11. Would have been better sending Freddy to watch 3 pitches go by right down the middle.
  12. You keep saying this but Freddy's 3rd time through stats were some of the best in baseball this year... 1st PA : .160 OPP BA, .565 OPS, OPS+ 61 2nd PA: .165 OPP BA, .544 OPS, OPS+ 47 3rd PA: .174 OPP BA, ..566 OPS, OPS+ 49 He's remarkably consistent no matter which time through the order. And oh btw, he has that same trend throughout his career.
  13. Settle the heck down. I don't think anyone is in the mood for this right now.
  14. Gustave is the designated sacrificial lamb no doubt. I don't see him pitching in anything other than a blowout. And likely only a blowout where they're trailing. Maybe if the Brewers are up 10 or something but even then not unless they're up 10 in the 9th.
  15. I don't think there is anyone among us that isn't at least a little deflated by this. It is very clear though that some of us are a little more mature emotionally when it comes to reacting to it.
  16. Yup. With Williams injury Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta, Lauer, Houser, Suter, Ashby, Strickland, Cousins, Boxberger and Hader are the only guys I really trust to get outs. That's eleven. On the position player side you've got Omar, Manny, Rowdy, Vogelbach, Escobar, Wong, Adames, Urias, Peterson, Yelich, Cain, Garcia and Taylor as the locks. That's thirteen. So two spots left for some combination of JBJ, Hiura, Maile, Reyes, Sanchez, Norris or whoever else. I'm not counting on it but it wouldn't shock me to see Anderson on the roster. Could be an innings eater in a game they fall behind big. Not an exciting role but one that can help save better arms for a more winnable game. ETA: I doubt they go with less than 12 pitchers so there's definitely a spot for one more. And I think they feel more comfortable with Anderson than either of Sanchez or Norris.
  17. Stearns probably has a good opinion of O.J. Simpson if that is his point of view. Equating a fluke, accidental injury to oneself to double murder. What the heck is wrong with you? It's stunningly ironic how a bunch of you are labeling Williams as someone with anger issues all the while your very reactions suggest you have a severe inability to cope properly with a setback to your favorite sports team. Ugly stuff.
  18. Correct me if I'm wrong because I didn't Google it, but I figured it was because you have to have at least one minor league level playing right up until the MLB playoffs so there are players ready to supplement the major league squads in case of late season injuries. Wouldn't want to have the 40 man roster players who aren't on the big club's 26 man roster sitting around on their couches when someone breaks their hand punching a wall. Figured, even though you found the answer you were looking for it would be worthwhile to have it shared in case others are wondering the same thing.
  19. Nobody here was ever close to being an integral part of a World Series run. No one here is being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to play that role. I’ve never done anything that put my job in jeopardy because I got drunk, upset, and then punched a wall, breaking my hand, which is imperative for my job responsibilities. I’m guessing most of us are in the same position. There are other equally stupid things people do that don't involve alcohol. Driving while texting is an easy one off the top of my head and it could result in far worse than what Devin Williams did. Are you claiming you've never done something stupid that could have cost you or someone else something very meaningful. Perhaps even more meaningful that sports? Are you claiming you're perfect? Or are you merely claiming that if you were a famous athlete that you would be perfect at all times? Either way, you're wrong. The only thing worth discussing is what the Brewers will do to adjust. This judgement of Williams as a person and a teammate is gross and every bit as bad as Twitter.
  20. Nobody here was ever close to being an integral part of a World Series run. No one here is being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to play that role. Such unbelievably flawed thinking regarding the expectations of another human being. Stuff happens, it sucks, but it doesn't make Devin Williams a terrible person or one who should be traded. And it doesn't warrant the vitriol and talk of booing him. He made a mistake and feels terrible about it. He didn't lie and he faced his teammates, the organization, and the fans and owned up to his mistake. Imagine if there were people tossing you away when you did similarly stupid things.
  21. Some of the comments in here are embarrassing. I am certain every single person here has done something just as dumb or worse at least once in their lives. The fact that he's a public person and you're not doesn't mean he's any dumber than you when you did the stupid things you did that no one cares about.
  22. This post screams "I really don't like Lauer"
  23. Young people all over the rest of the country must not like drinking given the same opportunities to gather when championship rounds come to their cities. Hmm, who knew? Btw, I was inside Fiserv but well aware that outside it was damn near impossible to get a drink quickly. If someone was there to get drunk they either had to weigh 50 pounds or be very disappointed. Yet they kept coming back each night. When are people going to realize that the Wisconsin sports fan is different? (65K in the Deer District, Parade for World Series loser in 82, Filling Lambeau in 97 after the Super Bowl win with a zero wind chill and then having the team arrival delayed by 100K in the streets slowing the team busses from making the short drive from Austin Straubel) Many major cities have 10+ times as many people to draw from and yet they see nothing like this.
  24. As someone who senses that Woodruff could use a rest, all I can say is - great timing stomach bug. The other part of me wonders if this "stomach illness" was "planned".
