  1. This is the best news any of us will hear until Turner signs with the Brewers. Thank goodness
  2. Clearly trying to ensure it doesn't happen again
  3. How many times are you going to say this? You're a fan on a message forum, not a team spokesperson.
  4. There were teams in front of the Packers that admitted doing very little study on Rodgers because they thought he'd never be there when they picked. Thompson was lauded for his due diligence and the amount of time he spent on Rodgers and others who seemingly had no chance of making it to 24. That's before even mentioning the fortitude it took to select a QB in the first with the most popular athlete in the state still around and pining for weapons to make one more run at a championship.
  5. The not so hidden secret in the NFL is that the Eagles' run to SB Champs was more Frank Reich than Doug Peterson. Reich gets his own gig and Philly's offense and Wentz turn into pumpkins. And given the fact that Peterson gives his D Coordinators free reign to do their thing, Dougie doesn't have much to stand on when his offensive genius is cast in doubt.
  6. Well here's an attempt to clear that up for you... https://twitter.com/JeffPassan/status/1344279108025544704/photo/1 It doesn't matter how much money owners have in the bank, they don't tolerate fiscal losses. The Cubs took lottery tickets because it was the best they could get in a cost cutting move. No one takes lottery tickets over a premium prospect if both are on the table. Very few buyers out there right now.
  7. You're both of course right. I was thinking the Timber Rattlers could've just remained in low A and been the Brewers affiliate there but that league level is all located down south now. So Beloit and Appleton as high A and low A affiliates wouldn't have been possible. Still happy about sticking it to Nashville.
  8. Also, I could be off but it seems obvious that if Mark A hadn't bought the Carolina team, Beloit would've been assigned as a Brewers A ball affiliate. They were one for the Crew from 1982 to 2004. Would have been convenient, but not the end of the world.
  9. It may be petty, but this is such delicious karma for Nashville. I didn't forget how dirty they did the Brewers when their new park was complete. Here's a brief synopsis... The bolded below is the part that really irked me... https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2020/12/09/brewers-re-establish-affiliation-class-aaa-nashville-sounds/6506418002/
  10. Sounds like Giannis is signing his Supermax right now. Shouldn't be long before word gets out.
  11. The 3rd year on Augustin's deal isn't guaranteed.
  12. They're giving up 8 yards per completion at a 71.5% rate. This isn't all dink and dunk throws. The point is - they're laying out a red carpet for opposing teams to run and by and large they are. When teams do pass against this dime defense, they are VERY efficient at it. This scheme is broken in every possible way.
  13. WHAT??? How good do you think a team that leads the league in snaps from the DIME defense is going to be at tackling? Playing small is never going to equate to a good tackling team. Deciding to play with 6 DBs so much and sacrifice against the run is entirely SCHEME. What's really sad is that in spite of making the CHOICE to hamstring themselves against the run with 6 DBs, here are some key passing defense rankings... Opposing QB rating: 109.8 (29th) Opposing QB Completion Percentage: 71.5% (30th) INT: 2 (31st) Yards Per Completion: 8.0 (27th) So despite setting themselves up to play the run with one arm tied behind their back, they're still terrible at defending the pass. COMPLETELY BROKEN
  14. I was thinking about this yesterday. I'm envisioning Coan taking his time with his foot healing and transferring to a QB needy school for 2021, as high a profile program as he can land, and then balling out next year to get selected in the late rounds of the 2022 NFL draft. Seemingly far less accomplished UW QBs have made nice careers in the NFL holding clipboards and being adequate fill-ins. This is a classic case where I think all Badgers fans would be rooting for him instead of scorning him for leaving the program.
  15. Agree definitely on how poised Mertz looked. Patient in the pocket and went through his reads. Didn't see any sign of the jump in level being too fast for him. I'm holding out hope that Jalen Berger takes things over when he gets his first crack at some carries. Taylor emerged around game 4 of his freshman year. Maybe lighting strikes twice. Berger carried a higher recruit ranking coming into college than JT.
  16. Likely (though not assuredly) makes them worse in 2020. Could very well make them better than they otherwise would've been in 2021 and 2022. Feel bad for Coan, am excited as heck to get Mertz started for real. Wowza! Forget 2021 and 2022, let's take this thing this year! The next 2 years after this one are looking really, really good, but this window just got wider.
  17. It's this mentality that would have lead the impatient and misguided to toss away the likes of Burnes (25), Woodruff (27), D Williams(26), etc. Not many players take the league by storm at the age of 23. Woodruff made his leap at age 26. Here is a list of Brewers on the 40 man roster aged 25 and under, any of whom could make a similar leap in years to come... Peralta - 24 Lauer - 25 Rasmussen - 25 Bickford - 25 Nottingham - 25 Hiura - 24 Urias - 23
  18. Source? Everything I'm seeing says Snacks will be in Seattle today and is scheduled to visit Green Bay on Wednesday. I would think there's a chance Seattle doesn't let him leave the building without signing on the dotted line. And this is exactly what happened. Seattle is signing him ahead of his previously scheduled visit to Green Bay.

  20. That's why I say "get started" with Mertz. Rather him get the growing pains out of the way in 2020 rather than use half of the 2021 season to get up to speed. Hate seeing it take an injury to get the ball rolling but Mertz beginning his development is an undeniable silver lining.
  21. Only so many spots available in the pen, though. Hader, Williams and Yardley are locks, and Suter is about as close to a lock as you're gonna get. Rasmussen, Houser and Topa will definitely be in the mix. They still need to figure out what they are going to do with Knebel. Still have Black, Claudio, Feyereisen, Lauer (if he doesn't make the rotation), Wahl and Perdomo. That's already 14 guys under team control for next season. At the same time, they only have three rotation spots nailed down, and that's if you count Lindblom. So in other words, this offseason should be all about bats, bats, bats. Good problem to have and much better than the opposite alternative.

  23. There will be no shortage of interest among teams with a need at QB for the services of a 37 or 38 year old Aaron Rodgers. Especially in places where the team's owner has any large say... https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1263146766477733889/photo/1
  24. The DH doesn't inhibit Counsell from any more pitching changes than he did previously. If anything it frees him to make more. There were times when Counsell had to let a pitcher bat to avoid burning too many bench bats too early. The 3 batter rule limits him, but the DH rule certainly doesn't.
  25. Thanks. So basically the team trading for him would be getting him at Tom Brady Tampa dollars, without the cap risk, and 6 years younger. Yeah, there will be teams willing to do that.
