    A cap is desperately needed, but for anything to work you can't have one without the other.

    Machado is making Burnes' type money so Milwaukee couldn't afford him, just like Burnes. $25+M this year then $39+M after that. So far this year Machado is hitting .178 with an OPS+ of 70. That's going to change, but the money is far more than the Brewers would pay.

    Frelick's bat has been one of the biggest disappointments so far this year. Two huge chokes in cosecutive ABs. Failing to get Bauers over by hitting the ball to the left side with and no outs and then the choke in the 9th. Yelich didn't help matters either by whiffing with the two runners on. The good news is Bauers came through to get one back and Milwaukee won two of three from the lowly Twins despite going 4 for 32 w/RISP. Hopfully they'll start hitting again against the cubs.

    Lewis is making $2.9M and is arby eligible in 2027. He's hitting .170 (BABIP .211) and not fielding well. He does have a little power and might be slightly better than Rengifo at 3B. However, I wouldn't trade Lara for him. Wilken maybe, or a collection of fringe prospects.

    Great job by Ashby getting out of the minor jam. Mitchell's K's are quickly becoming alarming. He's whiffing at a 40% rate.

    Sproat is the million dollar arm, 10 cent brain guy. Send him back to the minors to learn how to pitch. Why keep running him and his 7 ERA out there. Bring up Crow or Henderson

    The Astros would laugh hysterically at your offer. They don't consider themselves out of contention. The A's are leading the division and they are one game over 500. Houston currently has 15 people on the IL and see the division as winable once their plethora of injured get back. Ortiz probably would have to be a minor part of a much better (and far more expensive prospect wise) package to get Pena.

    Mitchell whiffs once again on a high fastball! He's going to have to make an adjustment very soon. Woodruff throwing nothing but fastballs and the Brewers are down 1-0.

    With a black hole at 3B and SS, a mess right now in the pen, and questionable starting pitching, it doesn't look too favorable right now. The OF will be better once Churio is ready to go, so that's a plus.

    87-75..... Fight it out for the last wild card. Win in the first round and lose the next. Too many weak spots in the lineup to be a serious W.S. contender. Woody is not looking good so far with the major dip in velocity, so the young pitchers have to perform right from the start.

    Megill -- Uribe -- Koenig -- Ashby -- Anderson -- Hall -- Zerpa -- Sproat I believe either Henderson or Sproat will be the 5th starter with the other going to the pen as a long man. If Yoho has a very good S.T. he could take Zerpa's or Anderson's spot.

    Don't get too carried away. This current team still has a black hole at 3B, a big question mark at SS, a question in the OF, and a lot of unproven starting pitchers. The young talent coming up is one of the best groups in baseball, but they are still unproven. I've seen three MLB rankings so far and none of them have Milwaukee with 90 or more wins. All have them have the cubs winning the division. However all of them have the Brewers making the playoffs. I hope the questions can be answered in S.T. and the Crew once again proves the pundits wrong.

    KC increased their payroll by over $40M in 2015 to win the W.S... I have no idea what that would be in today's dollars, but they definitely spent some big time money (for those times).

    Right now the Brewers need to see if Williams can hit well enough in AAA to contribute this year. Spring training doesn't say a whole lot because most pitchers are just working the kinks out and don't have their good stuff. Nashville is crowded with prospects so they'll have to figure something out, but I think Williams will be in AAA playing CF/SS/3B.

    I would love to get Abreu if he's cheaper prospect wise than Duran. Abreu is a GG rightfielder and has power. Like Duran, he'd make Milwaukee better right away. Williams is still a ways away. He may or may not be of any help this year. He has to learn to hit AAA pitching before moving up. Mitchell is far to injury prone to be counted on and Perkins is a 4th OF.

    Reese McGuire is still available. Lefty hitter with some pop. Also a decent defensive catcher. Great for a backup to WC.

    I think this is underwhelming for Peralta. The Brewers needed to get a big bat to play OF or SS. Williams isn't anywhere close to that. He offers nothing that Milwaukee doesn't already have an abundance of: little guys with almost no power who can play multiple positions. Certainly nowhere near the bat that they needed. Sproat looks to be a middle to bottom of the rotation type pitcher. He can maybe get a spot in the rotation, but the trade does absolutely nothing for the Crew this year.

    I don't see any use in Rodgers. His defense is suspect at every position and the bat is also highly questionable. Mono is far ahead of him and there are a ton of young guys nearly ready to contribute.

    I can't imagine the Brewers having even a passing interest. Nothing in either deal is even close to what Milwaukee is looking for. Are any of these guys besides Mayfield even in the Padres' top 20 prospect list?

    Jeffers is their starting catcher. They signed Caratini to be their backup.

    The Boston trade needs to be beefed up before I'd do it. I like Tolle and I believe the Brewers could do something good with him. However Sandlin isn't much and certainly not even a decent second piece for Peralta. I wouldn't even consider the Dodger offer in the article. The Yankees would have to come up with somebody besides Jones. The Braves offer is far too weak to consider. I think if the Mets put Tong in place of Sproat I'd seriously think about the deal. Sproat looks to be a #5 type and little or no help. Tong has the stuff where Milwaukee's pitching clinic could make him a #2-3. Reimer is a nice second piece.

    I'm with Joseph C on this. Fix the biggest problem in baseball, the monstrous inequality in spending. Expansion is just a way to try and make people forget the growing disparity between the huge spenders and the small market clubs. Fix the problem that's killing baseball first!

    I don't see Zastrynzy and possibly not Zerpa unless one of Hall/Koenig/Ashby are traded. Myers and/or Henderson I believe will be the longmen/extra starter. Mitchell is the enigma. IF (and that's a huge IF) he can make it a full season then Perkins is a capable 4th/5th OF. It would be nice to see them get another power hitting OF just to make sure.

    Pretty disappointed withthe lack of movement so far. Failure to get a desperately needed bat is the biggest let down up to now. IF they don't trade Freddy I think the starting pitching is fine. Peralta-Woody-Miz-Priester-Patrick-Henderson-Gasser-Myers is a decent staff. The pen looks very good, especially if Megill stays. Patrick/Henderson-Myers-Anderson-Hall-Zerpa-Ashby-Koenig-Uribe-Megill-Yoho is plenty good enough for now. They need a good hitting OF or SS plus a backup catcher if Quero isn't on the roster.

    I didn't say Schneider was nothing, I said Schneider offers nothing the Brewers don't already have. They traded Collins, who I would take over Schneider, because they knew they needed a bigger bat to go along with Churio and Freilick. Milwaukee wouldn't get rid of two skilled pen guys for a redundant player just to lower payroll.
