  1. Contreras looks all screwed up at the plate right now. Yesterday's HR was his frst extra base hit since April 11. He's in danger of going below .230 very soon. With the Brewers' very deficient offense they can't afford this version of Contreras. It's time for Haase to play more and give Contreras more days off. I think the Durbin experiment has just about run it's course. He too is now south of the Mendoza line with the bat, has absolutely no power, and certainly not a 3B. Unfortunately there just isn't anything for Murphy to choose from to replace him. Dunn is really stinking it up in Nashville (.192) and Capra was DFA'd.
  2. That makes no sense. LF is the easiest field to play. CF the toughest. Chourio should be in LF or RF and Frelick in CF until they get Mitchell or Perkins back. This is the third game that Chourio's ineptitude has cost the Crew runs. That's on Murphy!
  3. It's embarrassing to watch. He's rolling over on just about everything and swinging as if he's guessing on every pitch. Brewers are stuck with him for 3 more years. Poor Murphy, he's got little he can do with what Arnold gave him and nothing in the minors to help the offense.
  4. Quintana picked a bad game to suck. Hopefully he'll come back next turn.
  5. This would almost be comical if it wasn't so pathetic. Two consecutive innings they couldn't get a ball out of the infield with RISP, then Hoskins whiffs on a ball a foot outside to end the inning. Capra hitting about .050 has to bat in the 9th because they have nobody else. You can't blame Murphy too much because this is what Arnold gave him to manage.
  6. You can't really expect too much from this team when they are 29th of 30 at 3B. Close to dead last if not there at SS and in the bottom 5 or so in CF. Add to that a very suspect pen and a defense tha has been not good as of late, and this is not a team going to make the playoffs unless something drastic happens. Perkins coming back could help a little, but he's about average offensively. There is no answer at SS and 3B right now. Arnold's "do nothing" plan in the off season is coming around to haunt the Brewers.
  7. Hoskins looks like he's lost up there. Guessing on every pitch. Collins is around until Perkins gets back. I don't know how Murphy is doing it! The starting pitching is a wonder each day, the black hole at 3B remains a big problem, Hoskins has to be one of the worst if not the worst 1B so far, Contreras and Yelich under .200. Yet they still have a winning record!
  8. On paper to me this looks like the Brewers got swindled. Our #7 PLUS int. money PLUS a PTL for a guy who is below average with a low ceiling. Maybe the Brewers see something they think they can work on with him. I guess he can't be much worse than what they've gotten from Rodriguez and Thomas on the mound.
  9. Contreras looks like he's guessing on every pitch. His swings are awful. Time to end the Rodriguez experiment and DFA him or send him down to do mop-up in Nashville.
  10. This looks like a different take on cupping the bat. Cupping the bat top does the same type thing. Increases swing speed and puts more density at the sweet spot. The torpedo effect allows for an even bigger lessening of the bat top.
  11. With revenue sharing there should be a minimum floor in MLB. However, the players' union can't have it both ways, no cap but a minimum floor.
  12. All players are told, once you reach 1B safely the orange base is out of play, as if it doesn't exist. It's like the dirt on the infield.
  13. using the orange base actually makes it easier to tag out a runner if the throw is to the foul side of the bag. The whole point is to avoid collisions at 1B, especially with pitchers running to cover the bag on bang-bang plays.
  14. There is no ban on sliding into 2nd base. The ban is for sliding AWAY from 2nd base to make contact with the fielder. If you have ever seen a collision at 1st base you should know the orange base make the game safer.
  15. Way too early to tell who is going to be at 3B, but here are my early predictions. LF/Churio - CF/Mitchell - RF/Frelick - 1B/Hoskins - 2B/Turang - SS/Ortiz - 3B/Dunn (hoping for a late trade) - C/Contreras - DH/Yelich Bench/Canah - Durbin - Haase - Capra SP/Peralta-Myers-Cortes-Civale-Rodriguez (if Woody isn't ready) Pen/Megill-Koenig-Payamps-Hudson-Uribe-with Ashby-Mears-Thomas as the long men. (I think Jay87 is right about Yoho. He comes up after he gets that extra year of control)
  16. Both new signings (Alexander and Anderson) sucked badly last year. I hope the Brewers don't have to use either one of them. To start the season I see Rodriguez right now as being the 5th starter until Woody and company are ready to go. Ashby and Hudson are the long men in the pen. I cannot see Henderson or Patrick being on the team. I think they take a long look at Yoho in spring training. Starters: Peralta - Myers - Cortes - Civale - Rodriguez Pen: Megill - Uribe (I don't know how much time he has on his suspension) - Koenig - Payamps - Mears - Ashby and Hudson ( long men) - Yoho. If Yoho doesn't make it then Alexander or Patrick as the long man until Hall and Woody get back. Lineup is weak. Keeping the lefty-righty-lefty-righty theme: Turang (2B) - Churio (LF) - Yelich (DH) - Contreras (C) - Mitchell (CF) - Hoskins (1B) - Frelick (RF) - Ortiz (SS) - Durbin (3B) Bench: Bauers/Black - Dunn - Perkins - Haase Record: floor 78-84 ...... ceiling 86-76
  17. France isn't much different than Bauers. France in 479 ABs had 13 HRs, 306 OBP, 670 OPS, a -0.4 WAR and negative DRS and UZR at 1B. Plus he's a RH hitter. Bauers in 302 ABs had 12 HRs, 301 OBP, 662 OPS, a -0.4 WAR, and negative DRS at 1B. He is a LH so an alternative bat to Hoskins. Neither guy offers much.
  18. Add to that Paul DeJong and Luis Urias. It sure looks like barring a late trade, the Brewers are going with what they have. Either 3B or SS becomes a black hole in the lineup.
  19. I too think the Brewers have done almost nothing to improve the team. They are definitely a worse offensive team going into this season. However I don't believe Iglesias is worth the investment. Milwaukee might as well go with Dunn/Durbin and use this year as a "prove it" year for some of their minor leaguers.
  20. I agree that it's time for the Brewers to find out if Black can play or not. However, barring any major injuries, where is he going to play? The Brewers rely on their excellent defense for wins and Black is reportedly very limited defensively at 3B and 1B. Bauers got a lot of starts at 1B because he was a much better defensive 1B than Hoskins. Black isn't. If Hoskins has a bounce back year like I'm hoping, that will limit Black even more. I believe Yelich will be the primary DH. Right now it looks like Contreras will be the clean-up hitter, so in order to rest him and keep his bat in the lineup, I see him getting 30+ games as the DH. Without a trade, Perkins will be the 4th OF with Yelich getting some time in LF when Contreras DHs. Four of the 5 OFs hit LH, (Perkins a switch hitter) so I don't see much for Black out there either. A lot depends on what Milwaukee does in the upcoming days to address 3B/SS. A trade of an OF could open up a spot for Black.
  21. I'm shocked a cost conscious team like the Rays would offer Kim that kind of contract. He won't be ready until the end of May or June so they don't even get a full season from him. They have dumped guys who were making less. Pre-season the Rays have about a 2% chance of winning the W.S. so that makes it even more puzzling.
  22. The bottom line is, right now the Brewers have about a 2 1/2% chance of winning the W.S. About a 4% chance of winning the NL championship. I don't see any additions that will move the needle regardless of the money spent.
  23. In Detroit, Boras said they have refused any short term deals. The Tigers refused Boras' $200M demand for Bregman.
  24. What do either of those guys give the Brewers that Frelick doesn't offensively? Two utility guys who offer nothing more than what the Brewers already have. They would be replacing two pre-arby guys (Frelick and Monasterio) so there wouldn't be any savings. If they trade Frelick, I'd rather see them trade him for offensive help.
  25. I wouldn't waste time on Lopez, Walls, Cabrera, Ramos, Julien, or Perdomo. None of them offer any more offensive help then what the Brewers already have. Sweeney has good minor lg. numbers, but hasn't been able to carry that to the big leagues. Wagner has little power and looks to be a utility type player. Massey is interesting and has shown some power. It looks like he is a 2B only guy though and I think the Royals would want much more than the Brewers want to give up for him. Josh Smith could hit 18-19 HRs in Milwaukee and plays a good 3B. He's the best of the rest and would probably cost less than Massey to aquire.
