I feel bad that Biloxi’s managing a 26-man (one could argue 25) roster, further stretched after Hunt’s (rare) rough Sunday. Some combination of Peek, Fitzpatrick, Crow, Wichrowski, R. Smith, Bowman and/or Knarr might help immensely.

    I’d be a little concerned (but not like Flashing Red Level 10, as we really don’t know much) about Wichrowski, since Curt Hogg had said something different 6 days ago: “But rest easy, Wichrowski is simply stretching out still at the Brewers’ complex in Phoenix and will join an affiliate when he’s ready and there’s room.” We’ll have to keep listening and reading for more updates, especially as Russell Smith, Dylan O’Rae and Coleman Crow (Hogg had indicated a similar situation as Wichrowski) still appear to be in roster placement limbo.

    It’s a good thing that Le Mis and CF-Rod got to pitch Saturday, rather than being rained out today and waiting until Tuesday.

    22-year old RHP Chandler Welch (2024 6th round pick) had an impressive playoff appearance for High-A Wisconsin last September (1.2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 4 Ks) and now makes his regular season debut at this level, as the squad strives to avoid a 3-game home sweep against Cedar Rapids.

    After excelling at 3 MILB levels in 2024, 24-year old RHP KC Hunt (2.03 ERA with 139 Ks in 102 IP last year) is ready for his first AA start of 2025, with Biloxi needing a win today to avoid a 3-game road sweep at Pensacola.

    Maybe he likes throwing inside to lefties. 3 of the 4 walks were to lefties and 2 of the 4 walks had called balls right on or just off the corner in deep counts. Some improvement location-wise, it seems to be. But he only threw 4 curveballs in 66 pitches. Without a respectable 3rd pitch, I’m not sure of the plan.

    Ugh. Don’t let this be Biloxi malaise season part 2. 1 run on 3 singles? 2 errors? I’m entirely unsurprised by youngsters Luis Lara and Luke Adams needing to adjust to this level, but Wilken. Brown, Miller, Warren, Restituyo & Co. need to come through. It’s also sad when the guy who’s easily the oldest on the team (RHP Josh Maciejewski - 29) gives up a grand slam as part of 5 ER in 2 IP. Rough organizational debut.

    10 runs on 14 hits, including 3 HRs for the Sounds?! Nice eruption. Even Delgado, who went 0-for-5, had decent exit velocity and no Ks. Great to see the team turning it around. Rehabbing Nick Mears continues to gets outs, but not strikeouts. Topped out at 94.5mph tonight and had a ground ball hit at 108mph exit velocity. Maybe we’ll keep him down for more rehab.
