  1. Just one hit conceded by Yujanyer Herrera over 6 innings. Solid bounce back game despite the 4 walks, 1 HBP. Dylan O’Rae reached base 5 times, Jadher Areinamo 4 times. Good 8-1 win T-Rats.
  2. Biloxi was up 6 to 1 when I hit the hay. Wetin happen y’all? Lost 8-7. Outhit 9-5. Committed 4 errors to none. Nah, this isn’t what I expected to see. At all at all. Very at all.
  3. I guess Biloxi found and destroyed the hex. Sweet!
  4. That’s a crazy ending. A wild pitch puts runners on 2nd and 3rd. Durow goes to a full count again, then induces a ground ball to Jose Acosta at 3rd, who tags the baserunner between 2nd and 3rd for the final out. We’ll take it! 3-2 win. 5 in a row for Carolina over Delmarva. And hopefully we’ll see Yhoswar, Briceno and David Garcia tomorrow.
  5. Durow walks a 2nd batter, this one on a full count with 2 outs in the top of the 9th. They have a chat on the mound, presumably agreeing to finish ‘em off. Durow needs 1 more out for the save.
  6. RHP Harrison Durow needed only 6 pitches to breeze thru the 8th inning, but walks the leadoff man in the top of the 9th. Mudcats ahead 3-2. Close it out!
  7. The AAA Sounds can grab a 3-2 series advantage with a win in Memphis behind RHP Tyler Woessner (4.91 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, 10.7 K/9 in 40.1 IP) tonight. LF Joey Wiemer has at least a hit in each of his last 4 games.
  8. Blayberg popped out, so it fell to struggling Reidy Mercado to knock in some runs. His grounder to 2nd (fielders choice - everybody safe) scores Walling. 2-2, 2 on, 1 out for Victor Torres, whose sac fly gives the Mudcats a 3-2 lead. Yes, we’re trying to win with Yhoswar Garcia, Miguel Briceno and David Garcia on the bench.
  9. Mudcats get another crack at it in the 7th. Leadoff walk for Reece Walling. And the 6’5” specimen steals 2nd base. Jose Acosta’s single to right doesn’t score him (held at 3rd). Let’s go Blayberg.
  10. A baserunning error eliminates Torres, so they only scored 1 run on Cooper Pratt’s single. Carolina’s behind 2-1 in the 7th.
  11. Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the 6th inning, Carolina gets its first solid chance: Victor Torres double, Daniel Guilarte infield single. Yophery, Pratt and Castillo come next. Go Mudcats!
  12. High-A Wisconsin gets a 2nd chance to clinch a home series win over Fort Wayne and has RHP Yujanyer Herrera ready to put his last start behind him (9 runs (7 earned) on 8 singles, 1 double, 0 BB, 1 HBP in 3 IP). DH/SS Gregory Barrios has hit safely in his last 9 starts.
  13. A single and 3 walks cost Yorman Galindez and Carolina in the 4th inning, but he gutted it out to K the last 2 batters with the bases loaded. Gotta figure he’ll exit at 88 pitches (5 walks, 6 Ks). Mudcats trail 1-0.
  14. Let’s win 2 in a row AA Biloxi, which would cut the home series deficit against Pensacola to 3-2. RHP Bradley Blalock (2.70 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 6.8 K/9 in 40 IP) makes his 9th start of 2024. Eagle-eyed DH/C Darrien Miller is hitting .200 with zero homers, but has the 2nd-highest OPS (.397) in the 8-team Southern League (min. 101 PAs).
  15. Low-A Carolina have won 4 straight at home over Delmarva and have arguably their top starting pitcher throwing tonight: 21-year old RHP Yorman Galindez (3.16 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 14.7 K/9 in 25.2 IP). LF Luis Castillo has an .830 OPS over his last 88 PAs.
  16. I think I’ll post this here:
  17. Entering today's game, the ACL Brewers are easily the youngest team in their 15-team league - hitters' average age 18.5 (vs. 2nd youngest 18.7 and league average 19.7), pitchers' average age 19.6 (vs. 2nd youngest 20.2 and league average 21.1). Of course, they sit with a record of 10-11 as the young men have adapted quickly. Thus, the only downside to LHP Brandon Knarr (who turns 26 tomorrow) making a rehab start for them this afternoon is that he will skew their average age :)
  18. - RHP Ryan Birchard transferred to Low-A Carolina’s 60-day injured list from 7-day injured list
  19. - LHP Brandon Knarr sent on rehab assignment to ACL Brewers (last official game: May 13, 2023 with AA Biloxi)
  20. AAA Nashville needs a win in Memphis to tie the series 2-2. LHP Aaron Ashby gets the chance to build on a positive last start (5 1/3 IP, 2 R, 5 H, 2 BB, 3 Ks).
  21. Like their brethren in Carolina, Wisconsin can clinch a home series win tonight over Fort Wayne. RHP Logan Henderson makes his second High-A start (2.2 IP, 1 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 3 Ks last outing).
  22. I think 10 losses in a row is enough for our AA Shuckers, n’est-ce pas? Let’s beat Pensacola at home. RHP Brett Wichrowski (4.15 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 10.4 K/9 in 30 1/3 IP) tries to stem the bleeding.
  23. The Low-A Mudcats can clinch a home series win tonight over Delmarva, with 18-year old RHP Josh Knoth (4.50 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 11.4 K/9 in 26 IP) getting the start. CF Yhoswar Garcia (.805 OPS in 145 PAs) has re-taken the Carolina League’s stolen base lead (22).
  24. Hicklen was apparently injured in the game on Sunday, May 26. I’d think most posters on the minor league side were disappointed he wasn’t called up against all the Marlins’ lefties, potentially contributing to losing that series. You’d rather have him up facing a lefty than Miller, Wiemer, Perkins, Roller and perhaps even Monasterio and Chourio. Facing 2 Cubs lefties in 4 days, we’d thought he might then get the call, but instead he landed on the IL. Bummer!! He won’t likely get used in center field in the majors, so he’d likely only get starts if Chourio or Yelich rested a day. But his bat should be on the big league bench. The other hindrance is that someone would need to be DFA’d off the 40-man roster for Hicklen to be added. That’s why struggling Roller even got a call-up before him.
