Brewer Hicklen reached base 5 times in Nashville’s victory. Ramon Rodriguez hit a big homer in Wisconsin’s comeback. Juan Baez and Miguel Briceno keyed a doubleheader sweep, while Biloxi was rained out. For the week, Biloxi (4-1) and Carolina (4-2) were series winners, while Nashville and Wisconsin both managed 3-3 draws. Transactions: RHP Bryan Rivera promoted to Low-A Carolina from ACL Brewers LHP Bryan Hudson sent on rehab assignment to AAA Nashville Game Action: Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Nashville 6, Gwinnett 4 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Scrappy Offense Drives Sounds to Series Split With Stripers 22-year old starting RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez (5 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 3 BB, 6 Ks) made his second start of the week and showed again why the organization thinks so highly of him, keeping the Stripers hitless through 3 innings and escaping a 2-on, nobody out jam in the 5th inning. As detailed in the game report, C Francisco Mejia (2-run homer for 2-0 lead) and RF Brewer Hicklen (2-out RBI single for a 4-2 lead in the 7th inning) were key contributors, along with 3B Patrick Dorrian (2-for-3, sac fly) and left fielder Isaac Collins (2-for-5, RBI). Hicklen started the 6th inning with a full count HBP, eventually leading to a run (after a pickle play) for a 3-2 advantage. Mejia’s throwing error allowed a run to score in the bottom of the 7th inning, but three batters later he held onto a foul tip for a key strikeout with 2-on and the game 4-3. Sounds’ Extras: Do the Milwaukee Brewers need some bullpen help? There’s this Bryan Hudson chap who looks like he may have some potential. In his first rehab inning, Hudson threw 19 pitches in the 7th inning (though only 9 for strikes): 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 K. His fastball topped out at 92.1mph. Hicklen (2-for-2, 2 walks, HBP, 2 SBs; season OPS .920) reached base all 5 times and now has 35 stolen bases on the season to go with his 19 home runs. Will he have to wait until September for a call-up? Will there be room for him even then, given that Tyler Black is also looking at that extra MLB roster spot? Next week’s outlook: LHP DL Hall is scheduled for another rehab start on Tuesday, with Nashville coming home to face Pirates’ affiliate Indianapolis. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Suspended: Biloxi 0, Rocket City 0 (in top of the first inning) Box Score and Game Log The teams are to resume play in this game as part of a doubleheader at Rocket City in the first week of September. Next week’s outlook: Biloxi heads to Montgomery, Alabama to battle the Rays’ affiliate this week. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Wisconsin 15, South Bend 12 Box Score and Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, game details: Wisconsin Outslugs & Outlasts South Bend for Series Split Before we get into extra game tidbits, grab some popcorn and enjoy the detailed video highlights put together by the Timber Rattlers’ media team: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g33JtvYDhUw And there’s also the 22-minute Mehring/Lobner post-game podcast, featuring comments from Manager Estevez and homering hero C Ramon Rodriguez. From the podcast, I’m sure we’re all relieved to hear the Manager say that SS Cooper Pratt (who exited at the start of the 3rd inning) is okay and will likely be available for Tuesday’s game. Call it a precautionary exit after an HBP and fielding collision. Being down 5-1 (3rd inning) and 7-4 (6th inning) never fazed the Timber Rattlers. Utility man Jheremy Vargas started the 6th inning rally with a single, but it was center fielder Luis Lara and left fielder Felix Valerio who drew 2-out walks to set up 2B Jadher Areinamo’s full count 3-run homer for an 8-7 lead. A rare INF Eduardo Garcia walk preceded C Ramon Rodriguez’s clutch 2-run shot for a 10-8 advantage in the 7th inning, which ultimately held up thanks to five more runs coming across in the bottom of the 8th inning. Garcia also homered and had 4 RBIs, one of many offensive players to fill the stat sheet. Timber Rattlers’ Extras: The offense stepped up in support of a pitching staff which at least on paper appeared stretched. RHP Alexander Cornielle (4 IP, 6 R, 7 H, 3 BB, 1 K) was making his second start of the week, while relievers Jeferson Figueroa (2 IP, 1 R) Aaron Rund (1 2/3 IP, 3 R) and Bayden Root (single, walk, fly out to end the game) all threw both Friday and Sunday. Will some pitching reinforcements (e.g. recent draft picks) be coming by Tuesday? Areinamo’s two throwing errors were uncharacteristic for the exceptional fielder, but understandable given that it was his first field action in 10 days. Next week’s outlook: Wisconsin hits the road to take on Royals’ affiliate Quad Cities this week, starting from Tuesday. Game One (Continuation) Final: Carolina 10, Charleston 5 Box Score and Game Log Game Two Final: Carolina 4, Charleston 3 (in 8 innings) Box Score and Game Log Via the Mudcats’ website, game details: Mudcats Sweep Doubleheader, Win Series Carolina and Charleston resumed Saturday’s rain-delayed game with the Mudcats trailing 2-1 with 2 outs and nobody on in the bottom of the 4th inning. Facing a new pitcher, Juan Baez (3-for-5, 2 doubles, 2 RBIs) greeted him with a double, the first of 6 consecutive batters to reach base in that same 4th inning, giving Carolina a 4-2 advantage at that point. 21-year old RHP Ryan Birchard (3rd appearance for Carolina) took the mound to start the 5th inning. A walk and double didn’t hurt him in that frame, but cost him 2 runs in the next for a 4-4 ballgame. Right fielder Luis Castillo walked and SS Daniel Guilarte singled to start a 4-run bottom of the 6th inning, with center fielder Yophery Rodriguez contributing a 2-run single for an 8-4 lead which held up. After a tough extra inning loss on Friday, the Mudcats’ offense wasn’t about to allow a repeat in the night cap on Sunday. Outhitting the RiverDogs 11-3, but down 3-2 in extra innings, Reidy Mercado (walk) and Miguel Briceno (2-run single) came through to finish off the doubleheader sweep. In the that second game, Birthday Man (now 22) RHP Josh Timmerman didn’t allow a hit through 4 innings, but 2 walks, a wild pitch and a double steal had the team behind 1-0 before right-fielder Luis Castillo’s 15th homer (4th inning) and 2B Filippo Di Turi’s 2-out RBI single (5th inning). Is there an 18-year old with more confidence in his stroke than this?: Mudcats’ Extras: The late heroics in the second game were necessary after Guilarte was thrown out at home to end the 6th inning and the Mudcats stranded the bases loaded in the 7th inning. Kudos to 19-year old Rivera from Nicaragua with his full season affiliate debut, covering the 7th and 8th innings of the first game of the day: 2 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 K. Birchard added an HBP and 3 wild pitches as he attempts to regain his form after an injury suffered in early April. Next week’s outlook: Carolina travels to face Nationals’ affiliate Fredericksburg. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. On Monday, DSL Brewers-1 (26-14) is the only Brewers’ minor league team in action (hosting 29-13 DSL CLE Goryl) at 10:00am CST. We’ve got one more game tonight. AA Biloxi leads their home series against Rocket City 4 games to 1. LHP Adam Seminaris (4.10 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 9.5 K/9 in 48.1 IP) makes his 3rd start (18th appearance) of 2024. 3B Mike Boeve has 6 hits, 2 HRs and 6 RBIs over his last 2 games. -

After wearing down Rund and sweating it out with Root, I've got to believe this is the straw which breaks the camel's back. Wisconsin has 14 healthy pitchers, despite having a 30-man roster limit. Carolina also has just 14 healthy pitchers, despite the 30-man roster limit. Assuming they're healthy, I hope we see RHP Jason Woodward (2023 4th round pick), LHP Mason Molina (2024 7th round pick), RHP Rafael Garcia and LHP Jesus Broca assigned to full season affiliates by Tuesday. -

Might as well replace Frelick with Black and Hicklen. Black will probably hit better at the Major League level than both of them - great eye, hitting the ball a bit harder recently. Pitching will just be the usual Injured List-to-Rehab-to-MLB pipeline. We've got Hall, Bukauskas, Hudson, Paredes, Zastryzny and Megill on that path now. -

22-year old RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez makes his 2nd start of the week at Gwinnett (4 scoreless innings on Tuesday), with AAA Nashville needing a victory to split the series 3-3. 1B Tyler Black has an .853 OPS in his last 100 PAs. -

Carolina and Charleston resumed yesterday’s rain-delayed game with the Mudcats trailing 2-1 with 2 outs and nobody on in the bottom of the 4th inning. Facing a new pitcher, Juan Baez greeted him with a double, the first of 6 consecutive batters to reach base in that same 4th inning. 4-2 Mudcats at that point. Sat. 8/3 - Misiorowski Makes His AAA Debut
Ro Mueller replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Brian Fitzpatrick continued his solid run of form, giving Wisconsin 5 shut out innings (7 Ks vs 0 walks; just 3 hits), with Tyler Bryant following up with 2 more (3 Ks vs 0 walks; just 1 hit). The Timber Rattlers' offense was also limited to 4 hits, but one was a Jose Acosta solo homer, enough for a 1-0 victory. Hopefully Jadher Areinamo is feeling good and will be back in the lineup on Sunday. -

Ro Mueller replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
6’7”, 24-year old LHP Brian Fitzpatrick starts Game 2 of Wisconsin’s doubleheader against South Bend, aiming to extend his decent 4-game run (12.1 IP, 1 R, 16 Ks). CF Luis Lara, C Matt Wood and 2B Jose Acosta enter for Fernandez, Rodriguez and Adams. -

Ro Mueller replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
The Timber Rattlers dropped their first game of the day, 4-1. Five singles, two walks and a 1-for-3 day with RISP wasn’t enough. That game looked daunting the second the No-Areinamo, No-Lara lineup dropped. They now trail the series 3-1. -

There’s magic in the air in Biloxi, with Carlos D. Rodriguez hitting a 3-run shot and Dylan O’Rae notching his first career homer(!), a 2-run blast - both part of an 8-run first inning. Tate Kuehner also gave up a 3-run homer. Biloxi 8, Rocket City 3 after one inning. -

The real Mitch White has shown up today, retiring 7 of 8 batters faced, 5 via strikeout. Sounds still trail 7-4, after 4 innings. -

Tyler Black hit one 384 feet his first time up (fly out), then 426 feet his second at-bat (2-run homer). He may have to wait until MLB rosters expand on September 1st, but he may be impactful down the MLB stretch. Sounds trail 7-4. -

Ro Mueller replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
23-year old LHP Tate Kuehner (2.75 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 10.7 K/9 in 68.2 IP) only received a $72,500 signing bonus when drafted last year, but is already making his AA debut. Biloxi leads their home series against Rocket City 3 games to 1. The offense’s 413 walks are 60 more than any other Southern League team. -

22-year old RHP Jacob Misiorowski (3.50 ERA with 105 Ks in 79.2 AA IP) makes his debut AAA start as Nashville aims to grab a 3-2 series lead at Gwinnett. LF Noah Campbell makes just his second start in the last 2 weeks. -

Low-A Carolina lost in extra innings yesterday, so find themselves tied 2-2 in their home series against Charleston. 19-year old Bishop Letson leads the team in ERA (2.91 in 52.2 IP). LF Yhoswar Garcia leads the Carolina League with 49 SBs, while RF Luis Castillo is 2nd in the league with 14 HRs. -

Here we go: Game One of High-A Wisconsin’s home doubleheader against South Bend, with the Timber Rattlers trailing 2-1 in the series. RHP Will Rudy (4.83 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 8.3 K/9 in 78.1 IP) gets the start. CF Eduardo Garcia has a 14-game on-base streak. -

Transactions: 3B Mike Boeve activated from AA Biloxi’s 7-day injured list Game Action: Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Nashville 2, Gwinnett 1 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Patrick Picks up 10th Win, Pitching Staff Fans 11 in Win at Gwinnett Having the league-leader in ERA, WHIP, Opponent Batting Average and Wins starting every six days or so is quite the luxury for Manager Rick Sweet, with 25-year old RHP Chad Patrick (5 1/3 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 6 Ks) wiping out the competition once again on Thursday. Amongst his 78 pitches (47 strikes), our robot overloads tell us that Patrick threw a cutter 40% of the time and 4-seam fastball 28%, while sprinkling in changeups (13%), sliders (10%) and sinkers (9%). His velocity peaked at 93.7mph. After C Brian Navarreto and center fielder Chris Roller were pivotal to botching a bases loaded, nobody out opportunity in the 2nd inning (K, GIDP), it was only fitting that they came through in the 5th inning with a leadoff walk and double, ultimately scoring the only two runs which Nashville would need. Sounds’ Extras: Kudos to RHPs Kevin Herget and Evan McKendry for combining to only allow two baserunners (infield single, HBP) over the final 3 2/3 innings: 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 HBP, 5 Ks. The Sounds definitely had more chances to score, but went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position. 2B Christian Arroyo (single, walk, SB), Navarreto (2 walks) and SS Freddy Zamora (single, walk, SB) each reached base twice, with Zamora also keying a double play to erase Gwinnett’s leadoff baserunner in the bottom of the 9th inning. There’s some cosmic symmetry in Patrick putting up Cy Young numbers in the 20-team International League one year after switch-hitting INF Abraham Toro ended his season with a 41-game on-base streak but was passed over for a spot on the Brewers’ postseason roster. Patrick was acquired for Toro this past offseason. Friday’s outlook: 26-year old RHP Easton McGee makes his first AAA start since April 2023 (then with Tacoma in the Pacific Coast League), continuing his long injury recovery process, with Nashville aiming for a 3-1 series lead. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 3, Rocket City 1 (in 10 innings) Box Score and Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Martin's Walk-Off Home Run Lifts Shuckers to 3-1 Win over Trash Pandas 1B/3B Mike Boeve returned from injury (1-for-3; one error in the field; exited after 7 innings), but as you read in the game summary both offenses largely slept until extra innings. What a bounce-back game for 21-year old RHP Brett Wichrowski, who went from allowing 7 earned runs last week to throwing a one-hitter (a 2-out, 1st inning single) over 6 scoreless innings this time around: 6 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 1 WP, 5 Ks. The HBP and walks did require Wichrowski to bear down in the 4th (runner on 3rd with 2 outs: strikeout swinging) and 5th (2-on, 1-out: GIDP) innings. RHP Will Childers also had to work around two 7th inning walks with one out, inducing two fly outs. After Rocket City drove in the Manfred Man without the benefit of a hit, #8 hitter C Nick Kahle and #9 hitter 3B Casey Martin played heroes to send 2,012 Shuckers’ faithful home happy. Martin’s season average with Biloxi is now .121, in case you’re wondering how sweet this must have felt. Shuckers’ Extras: RHPs Craig Yoho and Sam Gardner were exceptional as usual, combining on 3 hitless, scoreless innings: 0 R, 0 H, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 1 WP, 5 Ks. However, Yoho dropped a ball to allow a runner aboard in the 9th inning, while a Gardner wild pitch helped the Manfred Man around in the 10th. Despite out-hitting the Trash Pandas 7-to-1 in the game, the Shuckers’ offense didn’t produce any great opportunities until extra innings. Until that point, their best chances were 1st and 3rd, 2-out situations in the 5th and 6th frames. Eight Biloxi position players reached base via hit or walk, although nobody made it aboard twice. Friday’s outlook: 22-year old RHP Logan Henderson (3.38 ERA with 50 Ks in 40 AA IP) is due to make his 9th start for Biloxi, who’s also shooting for a 3-1 series lead. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Rained Out: Wisconsin vs. South Bend Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, rainout details: Thursday’s Timber Rattlers game with South Bend Postponed Wisconsin and South Bend will make up this game via a Saturday doubleheader, which may work out well for the Timber Rattlers if it means that INF Jadher Areinamo will have returned from injury by then. Friday’s outlook: 24-year old RHP KC Hunt (2.38 ERA with 62 Ks in 45 1/3 High-A innings)) gets another chance to help Wisconsin cut the series deficit to 2 games to 1. Final: Carolina 5, Charleston 2 Box Score and Game Log Via the Mudcats’ website, game details: Mudcats Down RiverDogs 20-year old RHP Daniel Corniel pitched his second straight 4-inning shutout, allowing only 2 singles (one of the infield variety) and 2 walks and exiting with a 5-0 lead. He deftly worked around 2-on situations in the 2nd and 3rd innings. The Mudcats must have felt like a complete team once again with 18-year old Yophery Rodriguez’s (1-for-4, run scored) return to center field and the top of the lineup. He caught a whopping eight(!) fly balls hit out his way, at least two of which required extra effort and athleticism to take in, according to our Daily Forum watchers. Left fielder Yhoswar Garcia produced the first extra-base hit of the game in the 2nd inning, also returning to the lineup after exiting early on Tuesday and only pinch running in Wednesday’s contest. His double contributed to SS Filippo Di Turi eventually scoring on a groundout for a 1-0 lead. C David Garcia proved once again that he’s more than just a steady hand behind the plate, doubling twice and drawing a walk. 3B Juan Baez also singled twice in a solid day at the plate, although he was caught off third base for an out in the 3rd inning. For the record, 2B Josh Adamczewski (1-for-3, HBP) has a sweet stroke: Mudcats’ Extras: Corniel has now reached 74 1/3 innings for the season, more than double his output in 2023. Don’t be surprised if season pitch limits start coming into play at this time of year. RHP Harrison Durow was tasked with throwing 59 pitches over 3 1/3 innings of relief, his highest total of 2024: 2 R, 3 H (all singles), 1 BB, 1 WP, 5 Ks. He earned the Win for his efforts. The RiverDogs big chance came with 2-on, 1-out, down 5-2 in the top of the 8th inning against RHP Jeison Pena, who induced a 4-6-3 double play in a 3-1 count to retain the 3-run advantage. Friday’s outlook: 18-year old RHP Josh Knoth struggled in his last outing (3 ER, 7 H in 3 2/3 IP), so will aim to get back on track and lead Carolina to a 3-1 series advantage. Canceled: DSL Brewers 1 vs. DSL CLE Mendoza The record will never show it, but Team Uno was leading 1-0 in the 3rd inning, with INF Luis Pena tripling and scoring and LHP Wande Torres pitching two scoreless innings. The cancellation doesn’t help their quest to catch Orioles Orange atop the division. Suspended: DSL LAD Mega 1, DSL Brewers 0 (in the 3rd inning) Box Score and Game Log The squads are to complete the remainder of this game as part of a quasi-doubleheader on August 6. RHP Argenis Aparicio was today’s starter: 2 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 1 WP, 2 Ks. SS Jorge Quintana singled, but was caught stealing for the ninth time. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. On Friday, the DSL squads kick things off at 10:00am CST, followed by four full season affiliate games in the evening. Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Brewers will commence their series at the Washington Nationals at 5:45 CST.
