  1. Lamar Sparks tied a Biloxi franchise record with 5 hits, Luke Adams’ Appleton missile was Grand and David Garcia produced the clutch hits for Carolina. Only Nashville ended up on the losing end of the holiday. Transactions: OF Chris Roller cleared waivers and outrighted to remain at AAA Nashville Game Action: Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Memphis 10, Nashville 3 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Sounds Fall to Memphis on Independence Day The Brewers have a decision to make after LHP DL Hall’s 8th rehab start in Nashville. Hall essentially emulated last week’s start by throwing 61 pitches and allowing 6 baserunners (2 doubles, 1 single, 3 walks) over 3 innings, conceding 3 unearned runs as the Sounds defense wasn’t sharp on this day. Is there room on the MLB roster or will Hall be optioned to remain in Nashville? LHP Aaron Ashby (5 IP, 5 R, 5 H, 3 BB, 7 Ks) was the main innings eater, retiring 5 of the first 6 batters he faced before a run-scoring wild pitch in the 5th inning and then a disastrous 6th frame: 4 runs on 3 singles and 2 walks. Of course, the strikeouts and Ashby’s perseverance are encouraging: Sounds’ Extras: Center fielder Isaac Collins (2-for-3, double, walk, RBI) and left fielder Noah Campbell (1-for-2, triple, 2 walks) each reached base 3 times to lead the Sounds’ attack. This might be the last time we see Collins in center field for a while, given the retention of Roller and Joey Wiemer (day off) also remaining in AAA. Kudos to the Brewers for sticking with 3B Patrick Dorrian through a 2-month slump and Dorrian for putting his season back on track: Friday’s outlook: 22-year old RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez (5.54 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 9.0 K/9 in 66 2/3 IP) makes his second start after his MLB stint, with Nashville and Memphis tied 2-2 in this week’s home-and-away series. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 12, Mississippi 2 Box Score and Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Sparks' Five-Hit Day Helps Shuckers to Independence Day Blowout Win Of course, per the game story, this contest was a lot closer than the final score, with the Shuckers trailing 1-0 in the 6th inning on the road before erupting across the final four frames. Starting RHP Logan Henderson (4 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 1 WP, 5 Ks) was about 85% as dominant as he usually is, having to rely more on his off-speed arsenal to limit the Braves to 1 run over 4 innings. When your number 9 hitter (right fielder Lamar Sparks) goes 5-for-5 on Independence Day, victory should definitely follow. After being stranded in the 3rd inning, Sparks started the 6th inning rally with a 1-out single, knotting the game 1-1 on 3B Brock Wilken’s 2-out hit to right before SS Eric Brown Jr.’s clutch 2-run single. Wilken and Brown ultimately combined for 7 RBIs. Shuckers’ Extras: RHP Nick Merkel 2 2/3 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 K) picked up nicely from where Henderson left off, facing the minimum number of hitters through his first 8 batters and collecting the Win. RHP Craig Yoho (1 1/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 3 Ks) helped Merkel strand two baserunners via a swinging K with the game 7-2 in the bottom of the 7th inning, lowering his AA ERA to 2.03, while RHP Justin Yeager closed it out with a 3-up, 3-down 9th inning. Sparks tallied 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored while tripling and collecting 4 singles, lifting his season batting average to .254 and OPS to .692 after a very slow start to the year. 2B Dylan O’Rae, Wilken and Brown Jr. each reached base 3 times. Check out this defensive teamwork between Zavier Warren and O’Rae: Friday’s outlook: RHP Shane Smith (3.23 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, 11.5 K/9 in 53 IP) is set to make his 18th appearance (9th start) of the year, with Biloxi in a position to clinch a series win. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Wisconsin 9, Beloit 0 Box Score and Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, game details: Mr. Adams Sets Off Fourth of July Fireworks with Grand Slam After 3 games in Beloit, the Timber Rattlers and Sky Carp drove up to Appleton for this 4th of July affair, while means we’ve got video highlights from Wisconsin’s terrific media team: Be sure to also check out the 19-minute Mehring/Lobner post-game podcast, including comments on the win from Manager Victor Estevez and grand slamming 3B Luke Adams. When you’re wearing “USA” jerseys on July 4th in front of 4,936 fans at Neuroscience Group Field, domination evidently ensues. RHP Brian Fitzpatrick put in a fabulous outing, allowing only 3 singles and a walk while registering 7 Ks over 5 scoreless frames, by which point the Timber Rattlers led 8-0. The top of the order of center fielder Luis Lara, SS Jadher Areinamo and 3B Luke Adams combined for a 5-for-11 day with 2 home runs, a walk, 7 RBIs and 5 runs scored. Timber Rattlers’ Extras: Credit RHPs Bayden Root and Tyler Wehrle with working around 4 singles and a walk over a combined 4 scoreless innings of their own to maintain the shutout and lower their season ERAs. Left fielder Felix Valerio walked 3 times, stole a base and scored 2 runs as he works his way back to AA ball after being out the first 2.5 months of this season. Friday’s outlook: RHP Will Rudy gets the start, with Wisconsin also in position to clinch a series win with one more victory. Final: Carolina 6, Down East 4 Box Score and Game Log Via the Mudcats’ website, game details: Mudcats Rally Past Wood Ducks After striking out with a runner on third and one out in the 2nd inning, C David Garcia (2-for-3, 2 doubles, walk, 3 RBIs) came through in an even bigger spot in the bottom of the 4th inning, doubling home two runs to cut the deficit to 3-2 with two outs and scoring the tying run in the same frame. Garcia then drove home right fielder Reece Walling (2-for-3, double, walk) in the 6th inning to grab the lead 5-4 and scoring on left fielder Yhoswar Garcia’s (2-for-4, 2 RBIs, SB) RBI single. Center fielder Yophery Rodriguez and 3B Miguel Briceno both had 2-for-4 days to contribute to the win, including a double and stolen base for Rodriguez and an RBI for Briceno. The youngest pitcher in the 12-team Carolina League, 18-year old RHP Enniel Cortez made his 3rd start, conceding solo homers in the 1st and 2nd innings and facing a 2-on, nobody out situation in the 3rd inning where he thankfully minimized the damage (sac fly, pop out, fly out) to only trail 3-0. The pitcher star of the game was 20-year old RHP Dikember Sanchez (3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 5 Ks), who faced the minimum over the final 3 innings, including inducing a 6-4-3 double play to end the victory. Mudcats’ Extras: RHPs Brailin Rodriguez and Jose Nova combined over the middle innings to only concede one run, though there was certainly traffic: 3 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 4 BB, 2 HBP, 3 Ks. The Mudcats had numerous opportunities (4-for-16 with runners in scoring position), but only stranded 7 baserunners while the Wood Ducks went 0-for-8 with RISP and stranded nine. SS Cooper Pratt returned to the lineup after a rare rest day for him, but unfortunately had to watch from the on-deck circle as his impressive 36-game on-base streak came an end (0-for-4, zero Ks). Friday’s outlook: RHP Josh Knoth is scheduled to make his 14th start of 2024, with Carolina looking to grab a 3-2 series lead at home. Final: ACL Brewers 5, ACL Giants 2 Box Score and Game Log Here’s to @MassHaas for contributing the Rookie League portions of today’s Link Report: In the blink of an eye, the A-Crew were up 3-0 as the road crew in this one, before the capacity 4th of July crowd of fireflies were settled in. 19-year-old second baseman (yet to see action elsewhere on the diamond) Josh Adamczewski walked to open the game. It was the first of four times on base for the 15th round 2023 pick out of an Indiana high school (two subsequent singles and a 9th inning home run for insurance, yanked to right field, his first as a professional). Back to the first inning, A review of the game log shows that hijinks ensued after Adamczewski stole second base. A Luiyin Alastre RBI single punctuated with a Giants error, then a walk to Eric Bitonti, Bitonti's own stolen base, then a run-scoring passed ball immediately followed by a run-scoring wild pitch. Boom, lead never lost. The A-Crew had seven base hits, the Adamczewski home run the sole one for extra bases, but also drew seven walks, three by corner INF/OF Pedro Ibarguen, who only turned 18 years old this past Tuesday. That inched his 2024 OPS to just .502, coming off his remarkable .884 line in the 2023 DSL that netted him the stateside callup at a very young age. There were a couple of 6th inning substitutions for the Maryvale boys, but no dreaded notation of "injury delay" in the game log. It was 99 degrees at first pitch. Mound efforts were important. Nine-year pro (well, eight, pandemic year) and cup-of-coffee big leaguer Easton McGee is now up to four appearances covering six innings in his Tommy John rehab. Ultra-young (18 years old the day before this game) RHP Melvin Hernandez made the Brewers' Nicaraguan pipeline proud with five one-run frames with no walks and four K's. Unlikely Milwaukee will get to enjoy near exclusivity to that nation's talent in coming years. The victors improved to 19-25. The ACL Brewers will host the ACL Mariners late Friday night. Final: DSL Brewers Uno 7, DSL Cubs Red 4 (in 7 innings as scheduled) Box Score and Game Log Team Uno trailed 4-0 heading into the bottom of the 3rd, not an ideal situation in a planned shortened game. But 18-year-old Venezuelan rookie RHP Carlos Canales allowed only two baserunners (HBP, single) over his four scoreless innings on the backside of the linescore, far surpassing his four prior mound efforts. The comeback began with two familiar names in the Team Uno lineup. Shortstop Jesus Made opened with a walk - Made would reach all four times up, with two singles and a triple. Made's fellow 17-year-old partner-in-crime Luis Pena followed with a line drive double, moving Made to third base. In very DSL fashion, three runs scored in the inning, all forced in via HBP or walk, and the deficit was down to one run. Said deficit was erased in the 4th when 17-year-old INF/LF Juan Ortuno (DH'ing here), lined a two-run single to center field. Ortuno, with two singles and two walks, joined Made with perfect days at the plate. Ortuno spiked his OPS to 1.000, now sporting a .373/.529/.471 line in 68 plate appearances, rivaling his teammates Made and Pena for being ridiculously impressive in the early going. Cerveceros Squad #1 moves to a nice 14-8 record. The Uno squad plays at DSL LAD Bautista on Friday morning. Final: DSL Brewers Dos 14, DSL Royals Fortuna 5 Box Score and Game Log Five-run 4th and six-run 6th, yeah, that'll work for Team Dos, now with a 13-9 record. Before we discuss 14 tallies, appreciation for 18-year-old Venezuelan native and 2nd-year starting RHP Argenis Aparicio, who went exactly five innings for the 4th consecutive appearance, allowing only five earned runs over that 20-inning span. Aparicio allowed only a solo home run here, walking just one with two K's. The Brewers only had seven base hits, four for extra bases, but were handed 14 free passes and an HBP. Though in his second season, Dominican INF/RF Roderick Flores is still just 17 years old. He drew four of the walks, bumping his 16-game-sample OBP to .443. Well, hello again, CF Jose Anderson! A triple shy of the cycle and on base five times, including round-tripper #5, 13 of his 22 hits now for extra bases. Nearly as many walks (15) as K's (17). The K rate is manageable at just over 18%. Switch-hitting top bonus baby ($1.7 M) SS Jorge Quintana doubled and also walked twice, driving in three. The OPS is up to .714 after a slow start. Speaking of big $$ investments, infielder (second base in this game) Kevin Ereu somehow went 0-for-5 among all the baserunning company, though he did draw a walk and drove in one run. Ereu and his $1.4 M bonus struggled in his age 17 rookie season with a .553 OPS. His .785 mark through 79 plate appearances in 2024 is more palatable (.274/.430/.355). The Dos crew hosts DSL Red Sox Red on Friday morning. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. Friday will see another seven minor league games, as well as the Brewers starting their 3-game series at the Los Angeles Dodgers. 3. 24-year old LHP Brian Fitzpatrick (3.60 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 9.2 K/9 in 45 IP) makes his 15th appearance (4th start) for High-A Wisconsin, which is back in Appleton aiming to grow their 2-1 series lead over Beloit. SS Jadher Areinamo has a 1.156 OPS during his 16-game hitting streak.
  4. Thrilling 22-year old RHP Logan Henderson aims for his 5th Win in his 5th AA start (1.66 ERA with 29 Ks in 21.2 IP). Biloxi bussed up to Pearl, Mississippi to continue their series against the Braves, leading 2 games to 1. 1B Zavier Warren has 22 RBIs over his last 19 games.
  5. LHP DL Hall makes his 7th rehab start for AAA Nashville, this one at home against Memphis with the Sounds holding a 2-1 series lead. RF Brewer Hicklen is 4th in the 20-team International League in OPS (.963), 4th in SLG (.573) and 3rd in SBs (25) - (min. 240 PAs).
  6. Low-A Carolina is back home in Zebulon to continue this week’s away-and-home series against Down East, trailing 2 games to 1. The youngest pitcher in the Carolina League, RHP Enniel Cortez makes his 3rd start at this level (8 IP, 1 R, 8 Ks thus far) and SS Cooper Pratt has a 36-game on-base streak.
  7. Nice to see that Joel Kuhnel accepted the assignment to AAA Nashville, following in Mitch White’s footsteps. Elieser Hernandez doesn’t know what he’s missing.
  8. I think the Futures Game is on July 13, so there’s still a possibility that Pratt will magically show up in Appleton today.
  9. No verification yet, but the T-Rats are down to 26 active players (vs. 29 for Mudcats). Makes sense. And then Guilarte and Di Turi would split Carolina SS duties. This is idle speculation, of course.
  10. The AA Shuckers lead this week’s series 2-0 over Mississippi and have hard-throwing 21-year old RHP Brett Wichrowski (4.47 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, 9.1 K/9 in 48.1 IP) starting tonight. C Darrien Miller’s .423 OBP easily leads the 8-team Southern League (second: .408).
  11. It’s KC Hunt day for the High-A Timber Rattlers, as the 23-year old RHP (2.44 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 13.5 K/9 in 48 IP) aims to lead the team to a 2-1 series advantage at Beloit. Eduardo Garcia mans SS after the Barrios trade, while Luke Adams is out of the starting lineup a day after an early-exit HBP.
  12. After a 3-inning relief outing last week, RHP Chad Patrick (2.89 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 9.2 K/9 in 74.2 IP) makes his 13th start for the AAA Sounds, who are even 1-1 in this week’s series with Memphis. 1B Tyler Black and RF Joey Wiemer both went yard yesterday.
  13. The Low-A Mudcats trail this week’s road-and-home series against Down East 2-0 and look to struggling 21-year old RHP Jesus Rivero (9.87 ERA with 26 Ks and 21 BB in last 17.1 IP) to turn things around. DH/C David Garcia has hit safely in 7 of 8 games.
  14. We were seeing something of a shortstop log-jam, with Cooper Pratt and his 36-game on-base streak ready for High-A Wisconsin, Eric Brown Jr. (AA) definitely not ready for a move to AAA, Gregory Barrios squeezed in between (doing well in High-A, possibly ready for AA) and all three players prioritized as everyday shortstops. It's tough to imagine us trading Pratt or selling low on EBJ, so sending out Barrios as a trade chip makes sense. I believe that Barrios received a $1 million signing bonus in January 2021 and his prospect status remains bright based on his 2021-24 defensive prowess and 2024 hitting, even if he wasn't showing in the MLB.com top 30 (edit: I think he was #21) or BrewerFanatic top 20. Barrios is also only 20 years old - i.e. 4 months older than Pratt.
  15. Bummer for Mike Boeve. Hug watch? Hope he’s fine. This is Casey Martin’s 5th different position he’s started at for Biloxi in his 11th game in the field.
  16. That’s some odd play by play in Beloit. Gregory Barrios reached on a single deflected by the first baseman over to the shortstop? Luke Adams hit by pitch for the kajillionth time. Timber Rattlers’ hitting coach Tim Doherty ejected. Interesting.
  17. OF Noah Campbell returns to AAA ball and SS Freddy Zamora plays his first game since exiting early 6 days ago, as AAA Nashville aim for a 2-0 series lead at Memphis. RHP Taylor Clarke (5.34 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 7/7 K/9 in 30.1 IP) gets the start.
  18. AA Biloxi have won 15 of 23 games and are shooting for a 2-0 home series lead over Mississippi behind 23-year old RHP Bradley Blalock (5.06 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 7.4 K/9 in 53.1 IP). CF Carlos D. Rodriguez is 3rd in batting average, 5th in walks in the Southern League.
  19. 23-year old Tate Kuehner (2.88 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 11.2 K/9 in 50 IP) looks to extend High-A Wisconsin’s winning streak to 6 games, which would give them a 2-0 series lead at Beloit. DH/1B Jesus Chirinos is back in the lineup after leaving Sunday’s game early.
  20. 19-year old RHP Daniel Corniel (4.40 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 9.1 K/9 in 57.1 IP) and Low-A Carolina need a win at Down East to tie up the series 1-1. SS Cooper Pratt was selected for the Futures Game; he has a 35-game on-base streak.
  21. Thank you sir for the insight. We truly appreciate it. We look forward to hearing the next moves for Justin as he aims to replicate that 2023 success (2.93 ERA with 54 Ks in 30.2 IP!) elsewhere and at higher levels. Good luck to the pride of Lloydminster and Okotoks!
  22. We’ll see if the Rockies change their mind:
  23. Thanks for this. I guess there's minimal love for Manuel Rodriguez, Gregory Barrios and Juan Baez at the moment.
  24. Brewer Hicklen, Carlos D. Rodriguez and Gregory Barrios combined for 11 hits in wins for Nashville, Biloxi and Wisconsin, with the Timber Rattlers nearly throwing a no-hitter. Carolina fell in extra innings. Transactions: 1B Tyler Black optioned to AAA Nashville from MLB Brewers (making room for OF Garrett Mitchell, whose injury rehab concluded) INF Owen Miller (who has been playing for AAA Nashville) designated for assignment LHP Anfernny Reyes reinstated from Low-A Carolina’s 7-day injured list INF/OF Noah Campbell promoted to AAA Nashville from AA Biloxi RHP Will Childers promoted to AA Biloxi from High-A Wisconsin C Andy Yerzy assigned to Development List by AAA Nashville LHP Justin King released by AA Biloxi It’s uncharacteristic of the Brewers to release a flame-throwing 26-year old from AA ball who has 4.5 years of minor league control remaining (Justin King in this instance), but @Cambo888 in the transaction forum assured us that King is healthy and ready for his next opportunity. We can only wish Justin luck and chalk this up to the stateside 165-player minor league roster limit, whose crunch is being felt in light of the MLB Draft this month. Game Action: Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Nashville 6, Memphis 1 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Sounds Dominate Redbirds in Opener RHP Evan McKendry was back in excellent form (5 2/3 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 6 Ks) and the travelling Sounds’ offense (7th road game in 7 days) woke up by the 5th inning to grab the lead and pull away for the series-opening victory. 1B Tyler Black was raring to go in his return to AAA ball, singling and stealing a base to start the game, ultimately reaching base 4 times in 5 trips (2-for-3, walk, HBP, RBI, SB, run scored). His RBI single gave the Sounds their first lead at 2-1 in the top of the 6th inning, with SS Vinny Capra following with a 3-run double for a 5-1 advantage. Eight Nashville hitters cranked out their 13 hits, including multi-hit days for right fielder Brewer Hicklen (3-for-5, 14th homer of the year to tie the game 1-1, RBI, 25th stolen base of 2024), Black, 2B Yonny Hernandez (2nd homer of 2024) and C Brian Navarreto. Sounds’ Extras: Per the game story, credit the fabulous bullpen work of RHPs Janson Junk, Harold Chirino and Ryan Middendorf: combined 3 1/3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 6 Ks. Black did drop a ball at first base to open the bottom of the 5th inning when the game was still tied 1-1, but Navarreto gunned down the baserunner on a steal attempt. Center fielder Joey Wiemer continues to try to work through the new swing (pop out, ground out, 108.3mph line out, K, ground out). Tuesday’s outlook: 31-year old RHP Taylor Clarke needs to bounce back from a shellacking five days ago (8 runs in 4 1/3 IP), as Nashville seeks to double their series lead to 2-0. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 7, Mississippi 5 Box Score and Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Rodriguez's Four-Hit Night Leads Biloxi to Win in Opener against M-Braves The relentless Shuckers came back from 2-0 (1st inning) and 5-4 (6th inning) deficits, pounding out 14 hits to grab the win in front of 1,573 fans in rare Monday action. Enjoy these video highlights from WLOX: LHP Adam Seminaris got the spot start (2 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 Ks), giving the team’s principal innings eaters an extra day of rest amidst 12 games in 12 days, but the Braves grabbed the early 2-0 lead with 2 outs in the first inning. Doubles were the name of the game for the Shuckers’ offense, collecting four within the first 3 innings by center fielder Carlos D. Rodriguez, 1B Zavier Warren, DH Ernesto Martinez and left fielder Lamar Sparks to grab a 4-2 advantage. After RHP Bo Bowman conceded 3 runs on 2 homers to give back the lead, Rodriguez started the rally with another double to lead off the bottom of the 6th inning, scoring on 3B Brock Wilken’s RBI single before Warren drove in Wilken (2-for-4, walk) and C Darrien Miller (1-for-3, 2 walks) for the 7-5 lead. WXXV 25 was also at the game: And there are even more highlights at the Shuckers Twitter account. Shuckers’ Extras: The 23-year old Rodriguez, playing his 177th game for AA Biloxi, further cemented his case for a promotion to AAA Nashville with 2 doubles in a 4-for-5 effort. The bullpen really came through, with LHP Russell Smith and RHPs Sam Carlson, Justin Yeager and Craig Yoho combining on 5 2/3 scoreless innings. Carlson got 2 outs (K, force out) to strand 2 runners inherited from Bowman in the 4th inning and Yeager covered 2 neat innings after rare blow-ups in his last 2 appearances. Tuesday’s outlook: 23-year old RHP Bradley Blalock (5.06 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 7.4 K/9 in 53 1/3 IP) is scheduled to start Game Two of the series for Biloxi. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Wisconsin 11, Beloit 1 Box Score and Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, game details: Everything Clicks in Wisconsin’s 11-1 Win at Beloit From the game story, you know this was total domination: “Hitters crack sixteen hits as pitchers take no-hitter into the eighth”. Seven Wisconsin hitters really boosted their stats, with SS Gregory Barrios collecting 4 singles, DH Matt Wood 3 singles and each of 1B Tayden Hall, C Ramon Rodriguez and right fielder Eduarqui Fernandez 2…you guessed it…singles. Yes, 15 of the Rattlers’ 16 hits were singles, but it was 3B Luke Adams (4 RBIs) who annihilated a baseball on a 3-run homer to blow the game open at 5-0 by the 3rd inning. Per @wiguy94 in our minor league daily game forum: “108 EV, 414ft HR to LF”. RHP Patricio Aquino didn’t enter the game until the 4th inning and was handed a 5-0 lead, but was still credited with the Win for his 6 superb innings: 1 R (0 ER), 2 H, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 6 Ks. Timber Rattlers’ Extras: It may not all be roses, as it’s unclear why starting LHP Mark Manfredi lasted only 1 2/3 scoreless innings (0 R, 0 H, 3 BB, 2 Ks), exiting after 43 pitches. Is the team expecting him to pitch again on Saturday or was there an injury concern? To be determined… RHP Tyler Wehrle wasn’t fazed by entering in the 2nd inning, retiring all 4 batters he faced, including 2 via strikeout. Tuesday’s outlook: 23-year old LHP Tate Kuehner looks to continue the 8-game run he’s been on (1.62 ERA with 46 Ks over his last 39 IP), as Wisconsin also seeks a 2-0 series lead. Final: Down East 3, Carolina 2 (in 11 innings) Box Score and Game Log Starting 18-year old RHP Manuel Rodriguez settled in after conceding two runs on a homer and two doubles early, ultimately covering his now-customary 6 innings: 2 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 6 Ks. Settled in? The young man retired 13 batters in a row to conclude his outing, exiting still down 2-0 at that point. SS Cooper Pratt extended his on-base streak to 35 games with a 1st inning walk, reaching base 3 times in the game (1-for-2, 2 walks, RBI, 2 SB), while right fielder Reece Walling reached via a double and single (2-for-5, RBI), but the team needed one more bat to come through on a frustrating day. Walling led off the 2nd inning with a double, but was stranded, then led off the 7th inning with a single and scored on a ground ball out, but C David Garcia was thrown out trying to get to 3rd base to end that inning still down 2-1. Back-to-back walks to open the 8th inning allowed Pratt to come through with a sacrifice fly to tie it, but the Mudcats last hit of the game was actually Walling’s in the 7th inning. Mudcats’ Extras: RHPs Dikember Sanchez and Morris Austin were both solid in relief, not yielding any earned runs: 4 IP, 1 R (0 ER), 2 BB, 1 K. Down East’s walk-off win came when Austin attempted a 3rd inning of work: walk, game-winning single. The good guys had two runners aboard in each of the 10th and 11th innings (walks by 3B Miguel Briceno and Pratt), but the team went 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position. Ouch! Tuesday’s outlook: 19-year old RHP Daniel Corniel (4.40 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 9.1 K/9 in 57 1/3 IP) gets the start, as Carolina aims to even this week’s series 1-1. Final: ACL White Sox 10, ACL Brewers 6 (in 7 innings as scheduled) Box Score and Game Log Hey, if you remove the 1st inning, the Arizona Crew actually won this game 6-4. Instead, they drop to 17-25 on the season, with starting 18-year old RHP Ismael Yanez conceding a grand slam, solo homer and walking in a run in that 1st inning. …and he also hit 2 batters. Oh my. In the 2nd frame, 19-year old LHP Anthony Flores completed the rare 4-strikeout inning feat, ultimately producing this line: 3 2/3 IP, 4 R, 5 H, 4 BB, 7 Ks. The game was 10-2 by the 5th inning before the ACL Brewers pushed across 4 runs for a more respectable final score. They’d gotten it to 10-6 with 2-on and 2-out in the bottom of the 6th inning before an inning-ending ground out. As is often the case, 3B Eric Bitonti, C Edgardo Ordonez and 2B Josh Adamczewski powered the offense, combining on a 4-for-9 day with 2 doubles, 3 walks, 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored. SS Tyler Rodriguez also went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and run scored, while 1B Johan Barrios collected 2 singles and a run scored. 22-year old RHP Samuel Valerio threw 2 wild pitches, but settled down to retire 7 of 8 batters faced in a solid performance in the later innings: 2 1/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 3 Ks. Final: DSL Brewers Uno 5, DSL Pirates Black 0 (in 7 innings as scheduled) Box Score and Game Log Despite the shortened game, 8 of 9 Uno batters reached base via hit or walk, with the team also going 5-for-5 on stolen base attempts to improve its season record to 13-8. Utility man Juan Ortuno (playing left field this game) led the way with 2 singles, an RBI and 2 stolen bases, while 1B Joandrew Pena hit his second career homer – a 2-run shot to push the lead to 5-0 by the 4th inning. SS Luis Pena (1-for-3, SB, run scored) now has 23 stolen bases in 19 games played. Starting 18-year RHP Gabriel Colmenarez made his second start of 2024 after commencing the season on the injured list, retiring all 7 batters faced (1 reached via error), although none were by strikeout. RHPs Ayendy Bravo and Ranwell Smith followed with 5 more scoreless innings, together striking out 8, at which point we have to unfortunately wonder if the opposition was substandard (Pirates Black is 6-14 on the season). We’ll likely know more tomorrow, when the two teams square off again. Game One Final: DSL Brewers Dos 2, DSL Cubs Blue 1 (in 7 innings as scheduled) Box Score and Game Log Game Two Final: DSL Cubs Blue 4, DSL Brewers Dos 0 (in 7 innings as scheduled) Box Score and Game Log 6’5”, 17-year old starting RHP Paul Hoff from Germany was the story of the opening game, retiring 15 of 16 batters faced over 5 scoreless innings: 0 R, 1 H (a single), 0 BB, 0 HBP, 6 Ks. Despite the dominance, it was still a tight game, with 2B Kevin Ereu singling, stealing second base and scoring on a sacrifice fly in the 4th inning, then right fielder Frandy Lafond reaching via infield single, stealing second base and scoring on a 3B Roderick Flores single in the 6th inning. 1B Frederi Montero reached base 3 times: 2 singles, 1 walk. While the Cubs had zero chances with runners in scoring position, Equipo Dos went 1-for-10 in that department, which nearly cost them when the Cubs homered with 2 outs in the final inning, but RHP Johan Zapata got a fly out to end the game and earn his second save. In the second game, the team went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position although the Cubs weren’t much better (2-for-10). 18-year old RHP Wandy Cabrera made his first start in his fifth career outing, conceding one earned run (2 runs in total) on 3 singles and 3 walks in 3 2/3 innings. Offensively, 2B Moises Polanco and C Yoneiker Lugo were the bright spots of the second game, with Polanco doubling and walking while Lugo collected 2 singles. Down 4-0 by the 5th inning, the team loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom half of the frame, but were retired via infield fly, force out to the pitcher and a fly out. SS Jorge Quintana got the $1.7 million signing bonus in January 2024, but struggled on this day: 0-for-8 with 3 strikeouts and one caught stealing.
