Hey, at least we have Vinny Capra.

I think our best hope is that Smith is selected by an incompetent organization who gives up on him too soon:

I worry that Wednesday is Lose Shane Smith Day, forever replacing Lose Miguel Diaz Day.

I was happy that the Cobra was on our side in this brawl. See him at the 3:47 mark. You don't want to upset that man. Congrats Mr. Parker!!

Aren’t we just raising the price the Cubs will pay?
  7. Ro Mueller
Jeez - doesn't this mean that the Yankees and Diamondbacks (losing Bell, Pederson, Walker, Grichuk) now need to sign every decent position player?

INF Eduardo Garcia started at shortstop in both ends of a doubleheader for Cardenales on Thursday, going 3-for-5 with a homer and two doubles before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the second game:

INF Andruw Monasterio was finally back in action for Caribes after sorting out a visa issue:

Jackson Chourio hit 12 homers in the derby semifinal, but only managed 6 in dropping the finale to Eugenio Suarez.

Since Hope can drive a man insane, I can’t mentally process having over $27 million to spend on the likes of Bieber, Bohm and Santana. Heck, I’d be thrilled with just Bohm and Santana. Make it happen! After letting go respectable pitchers like Rea, Milner, Wilson, Shane Smith (yeah, I’m resigned to his selection on Dec 11), Paredes, Herget, Zastrzyny, White, Meeker, etc., then seeing the rich deals just signed by Montas and Boyd, I’m not expecting anything on the pitching front.

The various Winter Leagues keep rolling along, with Hedbert Perez still putting up solid numbers: Venezuelan League: INF Andruw Monasterio (still idle while renewing US visa) - Caribes de Anzoategui - .884 OPS in 133 PAs, 15 RBIs, 7 SBs OF Hedbert Perez - Tiburones de la Guaira - .851 OPS in 82 PAs, 7 RBIs, 1 SB INF Daniel Guilarte - Caribes de Anzoategui - .584 OPS in 43 PAs, 2 RBIs Dominican League: INF Oliver Dunn (didn’t play this week) - Gigantes del Cibao - .322 OPS in 26 PAs, 1 RBI OF Bladimir Restituyo - Aguilas Cibaenas - .267 OPS in 16 PAs Puerto Rico: RHP Justin Yeager - Indios de Mayaguez - 9.0 IP, 4 R, 7 H, 6 BB, 12 K, 4 Saves C Ramon Rodriguez - Senadores de San Juan - 1.000 OPS in 22 PAs, 1 RBI, 1 SB C Victor Torres - Senadores de San Juan - .000 OPS in 3 PAs, 1 RBI Mexico: LHP Jesus Broca - Algodoneros de Guasave – 12.2 IP, 6 R (4 ER), 10 H, 10 BB, 10 Ks

That Brewers team had easily the best record in the Majors that year, a .653 winning percentage (Tigers second at .605)…in games that Paul Molitor played (77-41). The team was 18-2 when Molitor suffered his first injury of the season in late April and didn’t bother calling up the guy who’d just hit 4 consecutive homers in AAA ball.

We may be hoping to land a left-handed hitting catcher with MLB-caliber defense on a minor league contract or split contract, e.g.: - Reese McGuire - Tucker Barnhart - Omar Narvaez (if we think we can fix him)
  16. Ro Mueller
What about Langhorne, Seppings, Hostetler, Hodges and Gillis? Hopefully there’s another non-drafted gem in there.
  17. Ro Mueller
Closing my eyes and hoping for a Winkeresque bounce-back.

Hold back the Great Luke?!? Dem’s fightin’ words! But yeah, I really hope he adapts and doesn’t fizzle out like Corey Ray or Mario Feliciano.

Thank you for highlighting a pioneer that I'd sadly never heard of. I'm sure this 1971 incident (Carty, Eye Damaged, Charges 3 Policemen Blackjacked Him) contributed to some down years, but he hit the cover off the ball from 1975-1978.

OF Yhoswar Garcia has apparently exited Tibirones de La Guaira. I wonder if it’s he’ll hang around as a reserve. We’ll see.
  22. Ro Mueller
And RHP Dikember Sanchez has left Tiburones de La Guaira.
  23. Ro Mueller
    - INF Eduardo Garcia was apparently injured, so has departed Cardenales de Lara.
  24. Ro Mueller
Monasterio is presently absent for a few games, processing his US visa.

Andruw Monasterio - outfielder? “At the end of the Major League season, the Brewers recommended that I play winter ball in Venezuela. As homework, I have to work on my defense, my batting, and my running around the bases. In addition to that, they suggested that I move into the outfield. The more positions I can play reliably, the more important my presence will be in any club. Milwaukee wants me to be a good utility player, and playing in the outfield this season with Caribes gives me that opportunity,” said Monasterio, who has good reasons to play in Venezuela.
