  1. Carolina hosts Royals’ affiliate Columbia this week. 21-year old RHP Alexander Vallecillo (5.29 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 9.6 K/9 in 47.2 IP) starts the opener. CF Dylan O’Rae has 10 hits, 7 runs and 8 SBs in 8 Low-A games played.
  2. LHP Adam Seminaris activated from AA Biloxi's 60-day injured list SS Eric Brown Jr. activated from High-A Wisconsin's 7-day injured list RHP Brannon Jordan activated from High-A Wisconsin's 7-day injured list OF Eduarqui Fernandez activated from High-A Wisconsin's 7-day injured list
  3. OF Diego Larez released by ACL Brewers
  4. Pessimist: Misio is hurt. Optimist: Misio will dazzle in 3 innings of relief tonight, sparking media discussion of possible MLB call-up.
  5. OF Je'Von Ward released by High-A Wisconsin
  6. Yophery is more likely on the Chourio-Lara track - hoping to shine in 2024 Extended Spring Training, skip ACL ball and join Low-A Carolina in April/May 2024. Pratt just turned 19 and is hitting well (.356 AVG / .426 OBP / .444 SLG in 54 PAs), so hopefully that pushes the Brewers to promote him to Carolina now. I'd think that Juan Baez (18 - .952 OPS) and Satchell Norman (21 - .897 OPS) could also get a look, along with some pitchers (harder to predict - e.g. Root (24 yo), Moore (24 yo - return to full season affiliate after injury/recovery), Whiting (24 yo), Yoho (23 yo - 8th rounder), Austin (23 yo - 10th rounder), Hunt (23 yo), Kuehner (22 yo - 7th rounder), Brailin Rodriguez (21 yo - return to full season affiliate after injury/recovery)).
  7. It looks like all 26 DSL season finales have been cancelled due to inclement weather. We wish the players a terrific offseason and hope to see many of them on the MILB Spring Training roster next year.
  8. Transactions: N/A Game Action: Arizona Complex League Action Final: ACL Giants Black 7, ACL Brewers 4 Box Score / Game Log Our men in Arizona jumped out to a 4-0 lead by the top of the 2nd inning, but were out-played the rest of the way, ultimately losing on a 3-run walk-off homer. The top offensive performers on the day were rehabbing center fielder Eduarqui Fernandez (1-for-3, double, walk, RBI, SB) and DH/INF Alexander Perez (2-for-4, RBI). They had a hand in three of the team’s four runs scored. Starting RHP Ryne Moore (2 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 2 Ks) made his 9th appearance of the season, but has yet to get back to the form which saw him promoted to High-A ball in May 2022. Hopefully he’ll recover full strength and capability over the offseason. Seven other pitchers saw action in relief of Moore: RHPs Daniel Corniel (2 IP), Anthony Perez (1 IP), Morris Austin (2/3 IP) and KC Hunt (2/3 IP) combined on 4 1/3 scoreless innings with five strikeouts. RHPs Isaiah Jackson, Henrison Mota and Cristofher Carrasco were at the other end of the spectrum, retiring just 5 of the 16 batters that they faced, with Carrasco giving up the walk, single and game-ending homer. Having won the ACL Central Division with a 31-25 record, we expect the team to be back in action in a playoff semi-final against the ACL Rockies on Thursday night. Hopefully rehabbing Fernandez, SS Eric Brown Jr. (0-for-4 today) and RHP Joseph Hernandez (last pitched August 17), as well as INFs Cooper Pratt and Juan Baez (both absent today) will all be available to lead the team. Dominican Summer League Action Final: DSL Dodgers Bautista 7, DSL Brewers-1 Squad 3 Box Score / Game Log Strangely, this game was far better and far worse than the final score indicates: Better: 17-year old starting RHP Eric Prado (4 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 5 Ks; season ERA 1.54) dominated the 42-11 Dodgers, throwing four scoreless innings while retiring 12 of 13 batters. Worse: The game was 7-0 entering the 9th inning, before the Uno young men scored three runs on four hits to narrow the final deficit. The loss dropped the team to a 25-27 record with only one game remaining in the DSL season. In relief of Prado, RHPs Gabriel Colmenarez and Oliver Camilo were rocked for seven earned runs in just 2 2/3 innings pitched. Offensive highlights: 2B Luiyin Alastre – 2-for-3, walk, RBI Left fielder Idalberto Santiesteban – 2-for-4, walk SS Kevin Ereu – 1-for-4, double, RBI, zero strikeouts Let’s hope that center fielder Yophery Rodriguez (0-for-4 today with 1 K) and his teammates end their seasons on a strong note in tomorrow’s rematch against DSL Dodgers Bautista. Final: DSL Brewers-2 Squad 8, DSL Braves 0 Box Score / Game Log 18-year old RHP Bryan Rivera (5 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 6 Ks) and 19-year old RHP Aneuris Rodriguez (4 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 4 Ks) dominated the Braves, only allowing three singles and two walks in their sterling shutout. The Brewers obviously like what they see in Rivera, who started the opening game of the season and finished the game third in innings (53.0 IP) and fifth in strikeouts (63) in the 50-team DSL. The game was scoreless until red-hot left fielder Pedro Ibarguen (2-for-4, double, RBI) singled in a run in the bottom of the 4th inning and experienced C Eric Martinez (1-for-3, HR, walk, 2 RBIs) followed with a 2-run homer (his 5th of the year). But the offensive star, as he’s been all summer, was 19-year old 3B Demetrio Nadal: 4-for-5, triple, 3 RBIs, SB. This performance lifts his season batting average to .342 and OPS to 1.003. Let’s see if he’ll play in the season finale tomorrow or end the 2023 season on this note. Other solid contributions came from DH/OF Christopher Vasquez (1-for-3, double, walk) and 1B/C Roman La Torre (1-for-2, two walks). The Dos team’s record now sits at 22-31 and they will conclude their season with a game at Dodgers Mega tomorrow. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. 9. In their two games, Bryan Rivera, Eric Prado and Aneuris Rodriguez combined to strike out 15 batters in 13 scoreless innings, though only one DSL squad was victorious. 10. The ACL Brewers weren’t able to hold a 4-0 lead in their regular season finale, dropping the game to ACL Giants Black 7-4 on a 3-run walk-off homer in the 9th inning. Positives: DH Alexander Perez (2 singles, RBI), rehabbing CF Eduarqui Fernandez (double, walk, RBI, SB), RHP Daniel Corniel (2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 HBP, 1 K). Notably absent and likely (my guess) to feature in the upcoming playoff game(s): Cooper Pratt, Juan Baez, Satchell Norman, Edgardo Ordonez, Miguel Briceno, Manuel Rodriguez, rehabbing Joseph Hernandez.
  11. INF Demetrio Nadal put a nice cherry on top of his 2023 DSL campaign: 4-for-5, triple, 3 RBIs, SB. Each of RHPs Bryan Rivera, Aneuris Rodriguez and Eric Prado had terrific final outings, combining on 13 scoreless innings with 15 Ks across their two games today.
  12. For the week, Biloxi (5-1) and Nashville (4-2) were series winners, while Carolina (2-4) and Wisconsin (1-5) suffered series losses. Transactions: N/A Game Action: Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Nashville 5, Charlotte 4 Box Score / Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review the affiliate write-up as part of their Link Report routine: Vihuelas Vanquish Caballeros, Walk-Off to Win Series With 1B Keston Hiura smacking his 21st homer (a two-run shot in the 1st inning) and starting LHP Eric Lauer cruising (5 IP, 0 R, 3 H – all singles, 1 BB, 6 Ks), the Sounds nearly coasted to victory before requiring late heroics. With two outs in the bottom of the 9th inning and left fielder Jahmai Jones on second base, Charlotte opted to intentionally walk Hiura (2-for-4 HR, walk, 2 RBIs) in favor of facing SS Patrick Dorrian and his streak of nine strikeouts in a row, with Dorrian then pulling the game winning single into right field on the first pitch he saw. Sounds’ Extras: Lauer started his second game of the week, throwing 76 pitches five days after delivering 67 pitches. His velocity peaked at 94.3mph in the 2nd inning. RHP Jason Alexander’s offseason may require him go back to the drawing board, following up his 2.84 ERA in AAA in 2022 with a 6.29 mark in 2023. He conceded the four Knights’ runs on this day, with RHP JB Bukauskas limiting further damage (two groundouts resulted in stranding two inherited baserunners). Seven Sounds collected hits, with good days in particular for DH Tyler Black (double, single) and Jones (single, 2 walks, RBI, 2 SBs). LHP Darrell Thompson worked around a leadoff single in the top of the 9th inning before retiring the next three hitters in order, thus earning the Win. Next week’s outlook: The Sounds (64-54) head to Gwinnett (55-63) to face the Braves’ affiliate. Expect RHP Caleb Boushley to start the opening game on Tuesday, with rehabbing Jesse Winker joining the squad at some point. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 2, Mississippi 1 Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Shuckers' Pitching Finishes Out Dominant Series with 2-1 Win While LHP Nick Bennett (3 2/3 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K) and five other pitchers combined on 8-plus shutout innings, the Shuckers offense played a dangerous game by going 0-for-16 with runners in scoring position and stranding 11 baserunners. That 9th inning got more frightening due to an error on 3B Zavier Warren, bringing Mississippi to within 2-1 with two runners on base and just one out. Thankfully RHP Cam Robinson (1 IP, 1 R (0 ER), 1 H, 1 BB, 0 Ks) induced the game-ending 4-3 double play to second baseman Freddy Zamora, earning his 11th save in the process. Shuckers’ Extras: RHP Jacob Misiorowski was listed as the expected starter on five days’ rest, but there was always a chance the organization would give him an extra two days. Bennett had only thrown eight pitches (1 1/3 shutout innings on August 16) over the prior 11 days, so was the logical choice to start on late notice. RHPs Ryan Middendorf, Max Lazar and Zach Vennaro and LHP Russell Smith combined to cover 3 1/3 innings of scoreless middle relief, only allowing a single and a walk. Although OF Jackson Chourio and C Jeferson Quero were given a rest day, the team produced nine hits and four stolen bases, while C Jason Lopez gunned down the Braves’ only attempted basestealer. The best offensive days were had by right fielder Carlos D. Rodriguez (two doubles, SB), DH Wes Clarke (two singles, walk) and Lopez (two singles). Only one Mississippi batter had any hits (DH Luke Waddell: 4-for-4), with the other eight going 0-for-26. Next week’s outlook: Biloxi (60-54) returns home to host Marlins’ affiliate Pensacola (63-50). Expect Misiorowski to start the opening game on a full week of rest. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Cedar Rapids 4, Wisconsin 1 Box Score / Game Log Via the Rattlers’ website, game details: Kernels Beat the Rattlers 4-1 One pitch basically determined the outcome of this game, with neither team doing much on the game’s other 257 pitches. Unfortunately, that one pitch resulted in a game-altering three-run homer off starting RHP Edwin Jimenez (4 1/3 IP, 4 R, 3 H, 3 BB, 5 Ks) in the bottom of the 3rd inning. That fateful inning may also have turned out differently if 2B Mike Boeve had taken the sure out at first base instead of getting nobody out on a toss to second base earlier in the frame. Timber Rattlers’ Extras: Credit RHPs Nick Merkel and Tanner Shears for delivering 3 2/3 scoreless innings to give the Wisconsin offense a chance. They only conceded a single, walked none, hit one batter and struck out four. The Timber Rattlers had two runners on in each of the 4th and 5th innings, but didn’t really threaten thereafter. C Matt Wood highlighted the unfortunately limited offense – two singles, HBP, RBI. 3B Brock Wilken also singled and walked, though the first round draft pick committed his first error. Next week’s outlook: The Timber Rattlers (48-64) welcome Royals’ affiliate Quad Cities (50-64) to Appleton this week, with LHP Nate Peterson (3.66 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, 10.4 K/9 in 59 IP) the anticipated starting pitcher on Tuesday. Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Kannapolis 8, Carolina 6 Box Score / Game Log Via the Mudcats’ website, game details: Carolina Collapses Late in 8-6 Finale Loss Prior to the late collapse, the story of the game was starting RHP Will Childers (6 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 3 Ks) and a balanced offense which saw seven Carolina players collect 10 hits. The two remaining starting position players both walked, while six different Mudcats had one RBI each. Unfortunately, for the second time in four days, the Mudcats’ bullpen let a big lead slip away, this time with RHPs Jeison Pena and Chase Costello conceding seven earned runs in the 7th and 8th innings to lose the game and the series. Mudcats’ Extras: Carolina had the potential game-tying runs on base with nobody out in the top of the 9th inning, but were unable to bring either of them home, as you’ll note at the Game Log link above. Right fielder Luis Castillo reached base his first three times up: walk, solo homer for a 4-1 lead, hit-by-pitch. Hopefully his exit for a pinch hitter in the top of the 9th inning was nothing to worry about health-wise. Players with two-hit days included 2B Dylan O’Rae (two singles, walk, SB), 1B Tayden Hall (two singles, RBI) and SS Gregory Barrios (double, single, SF, RBI). Next week’s outlook: The Mudcats (62-49) commence a 12-game homestand, with Royals’ affiliate Columbia (58-55) coming to town for six games this week. RHP Alexander Vallecillo is most likely to start the series opener. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. 13. Eric Lauer pitched five shutout innings and Patrick Dorrian walked off Nashville’s win. Six pitchers contributed to Biloxi’s 2-1 victory. 14. 1B Keston Hiura returns to the AAA Nashville lineup after a rest day, having hit safely in 15 of his last 16 games, LHP Eric Lauer makes his second start of the week at home against Charlotte. The Sounds need a win to clinch the series 4-2.
  15. Yeah, that’s a choke job, unfortunately. Led 5-1 late. Had more hits, walks, extra base hits… 10 LOB vs. 5 LOB.
  16. AA Biloxi strives to polish off a 5-1 series win at Mississippi, though with notable lineup absences. LHP Nick Bennett (4.77 ERA in 54.2 IP) gets the start. RF Carlos D. Rodriguez is having his best month (.843 OPS in 63 August PAs).
  17. High-A Wisconsin has had a rough week, trailing 4 games to 1 at Cedar Rapids. 21-year old RHP Edwin Jimenez (3.90 ERA in 97 IP) starts today’s finale. 2B Mike Boeve has a 7-game hitting streak.
  18. RHP Will Childers needs a bounce back start (6 ER in last outing) and Low-A Carolina welcomes 3B Luke Adams (.851 OPS in 356 PAs) back after a day off. The Mudcats need a win in Kannapolis to salvage a 3-3 series split.
  19. The starting experiment presumably over, RHP James Meeker was back to his dominant relief form for Biloxi, although in a losing effort: 1.2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 3 Ks. I hope we get him up to AAA ball. A late bloomer, he’s already older than 8 of our active pitchers in Nashville.
  20. Unfortunately a GIDP limited Wisconsin to only tying the game 5-5. Then Cedar Rapids walked it off on two-out single. Rattlers lose 6-5. Rough night for our full season affiliates. 🥲
  21. The Timber Rattlers were dead in the water, down 5-1 in the 8th inning against might Cedar Rapids. But a Lara double and Wilken single cut it to 5-2 that inning. And now the first 4 batters have reached in the 9th inning: Mendez double, Miller double, Acosta walk, Vargas single. 5-4, 2 on, nobody out, pitching change. Let’s go Wisconsin!!!!!
  22. Brock Wilken is off to a better start than I expected for a power-first player. Maybe we’ll even have him play the final week in Biloxi (September 12-17), after Wisconsin finishes up on September 10th.
  23. RHP Bradley Blalock (2.64 ERA in 61.1 IP) makes his 3rd start for High-A Wisconsin, still looking for his first Win. The Timber Rattlers are down 3-1 in their series at Cedar Rapids.
