Nice 4-run 3rd inning from DSL Brewers Blue to push their lead to 5-0, including a Tarazona single, Seijas double and Leonard Rijo 2-out, 2-run triple. 0-0 in the Brewers Gold vs. Cubs Blue contest. 4 scoreless for Pena, 3 scoreless for Mayorquin thus far.

OF Kenny Fenelon is out of the lineup for the 2nd straight game, so this now constitutes a valid concern (in my opinion), But at least OF Frandy Lafond is back in action after exiting yesterday’s win early. We’ve got starting pitching debuts from 17-year olds Diustin Mayorquin (RHP - Nicaragua) and Joan Pena (LHP - D.R.).

I’m not sure how Wisconsin intends to manage its staff load, as they’re down to 13 active pitchers, 8 of whom have pitched in the last 48 hours. And today’s starter Jaron DeBerry has yet to surpass 4 innings in any appearance. Du courage, men. Maybe Chandler Welch should make a grand return.

Transactions: RHP Tanner Shears released by High-A Wisconsin. Shears was one of the top relief pitchers in the organization in 2023 (1.45 ERA, 77 Ks in 49 2/3 IP), but missed the 2024 season with an injury and heads out after just 7 appearances in 2025. We hope he’s fully recovered and wish him success in his next opportunity. These batters principally faced off-speed pitches, so expect Myers to mix it up more going forward. Retired 9 of the next 10 batters (1 single) he faced to exit with the game tied 3-3. After 2B Ray Delgado’s (2-for-4) two-out single in the 6th inning, neither team got a runner aboard until old friend Carlos D. Rodriguez’s strikeout-wild pitch put him on base against RHP Elvis Peguero (3 Ks in 0.2 IP – takes the loss) to start the 9th inning, later scoring on a 2-out single. Sounds’ Extras: Delgado singled with 1-out in the bottom of the 9th, but recently-red hot OF Jimmy Herron (pop out) and Seigler (fly out) weren’t able to bring him home. C Jeferson Quero had a 1-for-3 day with a walk and an RBI, but will likely rue the 9th inning (couldn’t corral the wild pitch or gun down stealing CD Rodriguez). Martinez went 0-for-3 with a sac fly in his return, but will also wish he’d done more with the bases loaded in the 5th inning (K’d swinging in a 9-pitch at-bat). That said, his defense remains impeccable. The first 6 Sounds reached base in the bottom half of that 6-run third inning, with 3B Luke Adams (2-for-3, HR, double, 2 walks, 2 RBIs) and OF Luis Lara (2-for-4, double, walk, RBI) opening the scoring. Biloxi led 8-2 by the 6th inning, then drew 4 consecutive walks before a pitching change. Warren (1-for-5, 4 RBIs) took the 2nd pitch thrown by reliever Dan Hammer deep for a grand slam to tie the Shuckers’ career home run record. Shuckers’ Extras: OF Garrett Spain joined Warren in the 4-RBI club with a 2-for-5 evening, including a double. All 9 Shuckers reached base via hit or walk in a fun game for the team and 3,174 home fans. SS Cooper Pratt reached 3 times: 1-for-3, 2 walks. A passed ball, rare 2B Daniel Guilarte error and OF Eduardo Garcia missed fly ball (over the shoulder as seen in the video, ruled a hit) didn’t help the situation in that initial 4-run inning, but credit the Kernels for continuing to hit Hardin hard and extend their lead to 7-2 by the 5th frame. The back-to-back doubles from Garcia (2-for-4, HR, double, walk, RBI) and 1B Blake Burke (3-for-5, double, 2 RBIs) put Wisconsin right back into the game in the bottom of the 4th inning, with SS Jadher Areinamo (sac fly) and DH Tayden Hall (pop out) both coming up as potential game-tying runs. Timber Rattlers’ Extras: Although RHP Yerlin Rodriguez struggled (2 2/3 IP, 3 R, 1 K), RHP Aaron Rund was fantastic: 2 1/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 3 Ks. The Timber Rattlers 1-thru-5 batters combined on a 12-for-21 day with 3 walks and 3 RBIs, while the 6-thru-9 hitters went 1-for-17 with 1 walk and 2 RBIs. 13 hits and 10 runners left on base is nothing to sneeze at, as Wisconsin’s offense certainly gave Cedar Rapids a continuous scare, putting runners on base every single inning. Friday’s outlook: 22-year old RHP Jaron DeBerry (3.60 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, 11.4 K/9 in 15 IP) is scheduled to make his 3rd High-A start, with Wisconsin needing a home victory to even the series 2-2. Final: ACL White Sox 5, ACL Brewers 3 Box Score and Game Log 6’4”, 18-year old starting RHP Tyler Renz (6 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks) was terrific and deserved the win, shutting down the Sox apart from a 2-out RBI single in the first inning. After squandering a few opportunities, the Zona Crew tied it in the 4th inning when OF Handelfry Encarnacion doubled and his replacement pinch runner (after a dreaded injury delay) scored on a ground out. In the penultimate inning, SS Jorge Quintana (2-for-4) singled and scored on a 1B Frederi Montero sac fly for a deserved 2-1 lead. Unfortunately, everything derailed when RHP Jose Nova (1 IP, 4 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 2 Ks) came in for the 7th inning save situation, with a 1-out, 2-run triple doing most of the damage and the team falling into a 5-2 hole. Credit the Crew with battling in the final frame behind OF Pedro Ibarguen (single), Quintana (double) and Montero (RBI single), but a K looking ended it with the potential game-tying runners on base. 3B Kevin Ereu (.098 season AVG) was up in some rather big spots: 2nd & 3rd, 1-out in the 2nd: K swinging Runner on third, 2 outs in the 4th: K looking Bases juiced, 1-out in the 6th: K swinging Friday’s outlook: The ACL Brewers (17-8) try to get back to their winning ways at the ACL Guardians (15-11). Final: DSL Brewers Blue 6, DSL Padres Gold 1 Box Score and Game Log Our Blue squad converted their chances, including pushing 5 two-out runs across in the 5th inning to push their advantage to a comfortable 6-0. Starting 17-year old RHP Carlos Galindo (4 IP, 4 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks) and RHP Lukas Gonzalez (3 1/3 IP, 1 H, 4 BB, 1 HBP, 6 Ks) faced consistent traffic, but shut out Padres Gold across a combined 7 1/3 effective innings. Eight Brewers produced their 9 hits, including 1B/OF Jefer Lista’s 2-for-4 day and doubles for OF Angel Gonzalez (sparked 3rd inning -> first run of game) and 3B Joan Gutierrez (sparked 5th inning -> 5 runs). OF Frandy Lafond went 1-for-3, but exited after 5 innings. RHP Justin Lugo allowed a late double, 2 walks and an unearned run, but registered 3 Ks in 1 2/3 IP. Final: DSL Brewers Gold 9, DSL Orioles Orange 6 (in 6 1/3 innings) Box Score and Game Log 17-year old OF Nicolas Barrios (2-for-3, 4 RBIs, SB) served notice as the Gold squad ran Orioles Orange ragged (7-for-7 on SB attempts) before Barrios’ 5th inning grand slam turned a 6-5 deficit into a 9-6 win. DH Romano Donato (1-for-3, walk, RBI, SB) doubled in a run to tie the game 1-1 in the 2nd inning, then scored on a double steal for a 2-1 advantage. Walks, a bunt, error and an everybody-safe-fielders-choice dogged starting 18-year old RHP Jose Arias (3 1/3 IP, 5 R (3 ER), 3 H, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 1 WP, 2 Ks) in a 4-run third inning, but 1B Jonathan Rangel’s 2-out, 2-run double narrowed the gap to 5-4. Rangel was 1-for-1 with 3 walks. After allowing a run in the top of the 4th, Barrios singled and scored on an error to make it a 6-5 game, then came through with the big blast an inning later. AA Biloxi’s LHP Tate Kuehner has been fabulous over his last 4 starts (0.82 ERA, 25 Ks in 22 IP) and he’ll strive to lead them to a 2-1 home series lead over 2nd place Montgomery. CF Luis Lara, the 2nd youngest position player in the Southern League, leads the team in hits (49), doubles (12) and stolen bases (19).

RHP Tobias Myers (5 IP, 3 R, 2 Ks last outing) makes his 3rd start since being optioned to Nashville, who’s aiming to extend their home series lead to 3-0 over Gwinnett. 3B Anthony Seigler has a whopping 1.206 OPS during his 28-game on-base streak (117 PAs). Remember - this year is Seigler’s first taste of AAA ball.

RHP Tyson Hardin is 2nd amongst Midwest League starting pitchers in ERA (1.29) and K/BB ratio (8.83). High-A Wisconsin looks to him to lead them to a home win and 2-1 series lead over Cedar Rapids. CF Eduardo Garcia’s on-base streak is now 17 games.
