  1. Glad to see The Legend of Fukudome not get added to there; the A-Ram CS was just icing
  2. When I moved back to Florida briefly after college, I was attending A LOT of Rays' games--a half-mile walk to the stadium and the easy availability of walk-up $5 upper deck behind-home tickets. I still am glad to see them do well but now that I live far away I don't pay attention as much and they don't hav the childhood pull on me that the Brew Crew does: I am, was and always will be a Brewers Fan.
  3. Today was almost the antidote for the Aramis walkoff last year, almost.
  4. No knock, but I hope we don't have a lot of these kind of threads Most of the diehards are aware of nsbb.com and if we need a schaedenfraude fix we can always head over there ourselves (as I'm sure those guys there did here several times last season). No dignity in a dogpile. Anyway, I find the crowd there a lot like here...some really smart guys there, some occasionally not so, some blustery, some eloquent. All sorts. I think I've had a lot more exposure to Cubs fans than a lot of people here--sometimes I get the impression around here that the common knowledge is that Cubs fans have horns growing through their backwards-baseball caps and spiked tails coming out of their Dockers and cargo shorts.
  5. No. It was basically a draw. Sheets: 6.1 IP, 2 H, 7 K, 2BB, 0 R Zambrano: 6.2 IP, 3 H, 5 K, 1 BB, 0 R So, both allowed the same number of base runners. Sheets had 2 more K, one-third fewer innings. Sheets did get hit harder overall, though. Two of Zambrano's hits were to Gwynn - the first was an infield single, the second was a bloop single. Sheets got two more Ks and no runner got past 2nd on him...I give the edge to Big Ben
  6. Yeah, between the Gagne meltdown/Fukodome Deb Ball today it definitely feels like a Cubs' moral victory. Thankfully those don't count. Anyway, all the Gagne/Fukudome stuff aside, in terms of "moral victory" stuff our ace outpitched theirs, our BP outpitched theirs, and we out-hit them as well. But again, bottom line is the W.
  7. Well, seeing as it's got a massive fleet of cabs and a real public transportation system, I never had a problem with the traffic when I lived there.
  8. I wish this board would drop its inferiority complex about Chicago as a city. I love Wisconsin and it'll always be home but that doesn't change the fact that Chicago is a fantastic city and that a lot of places in Wisconsin are dumps. Chicago as a fantastic city is an opinion, not a fact. If you like it fine, I have no reason to pay tolls to drive on crappy Illinois roads with horrible Illinois drivers to go down there personally. I've been there enough in my life. It is nothing to do with an inferiority complex. I would take Madison over Chicago any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Badger football and basketball games alone trump it. Fair enough, but Chicago is not "trash"
  9. I wish this board would drop its inferiority complex about Chicago as a city. I love Wisconsin and it'll always be home but that doesn't change the fact that Chicago is a fantastic city and that a lot of places in Wisconsin are dumps.
  10. MLB schedulers are driving me up a wall today
  11. Aside from Brie Anna, (if you don't know who she is that's too bad), I haven't found anything recently. Besides the fact it's a world-class city with amazing architecture, terrific restaurants and top-notch cultural institutions, it's got nothing.
  12. My last day at my old job was Friday; when I was speaking with my new boss a few weeks ago about my start date there I asked him if I could start April 1 and was up-front with him that I'd already designated today a vacation day at my old place. So I got the best of all worlds, no accrual of vacation or sick days anywhere, plus I got the payout for the day I would've taken off today at my old place plus (please please let it happen) I get to watch the Brew Crew today.
  13. Being out West here I didn't even know this was an issue there until now (I did know you guys have had the worst winter in years out there though)...ugh. 90% chance of precipitation on weather.com now
  14. Wait, is there a fear it might be rained out? I took work off Monday... Edit: Oh, puke. I just took a look at the Monday forecast for Wrigley's zip code and I see a 90% chance of rain. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif Anyway, I'll be taking in the Yankees-Blue Jays if it happens.
  15. Yeah, I didn't think I'd be the only one who thought last year's loss was much worse than this. Last year's Badgers were super-hyped and briefly ranked number one and while they faded during the stretch they should've made a much deeper run than they did, losing to a non-descript UNLV team in the 2nd. The big [players] they had this year did much better than expected and ran into a force-of-nature that's a little hard to root against. I'm disappointed in the way they played tonight, and that they're not going to make a run to the FF I fully felt they were capable of, but I'm not angry. Anyway, on my way home after the game here in SF I saw from the train some young dude walking alone in the rain with a Wisconsin t-shirt on and a dress-tie wrapped around his head carrying a 12-pack of PBR as he wandered into a Burger Meister. Awesome and sad at the same time. EDIT: Removed derogatory term - b19
  16. I'm also surprised...this is a team that won its major conference regular-season and tourney championships, knocked off media-favorite Texas in Austin, lost only four times (all to tourney teams), has senior leadership and strong coaching, is playing the stingiest D left in the tourney, and is firing on all cylinders right now. I know they're not the most exciting or glamourous team, but I feel they have a good shot at making the Final Four and possibly beyond but the only thing close to a mention in, say, Bill Simmons' column today was how his FF pick USC lost to an "enigmatic" KSU team. "Enigmatic," almost seeming to imply that the Badgers beat the "bad" KSU team.
  17. UNC and Wisconsin can't play in the finals; you have your Final Four pairings wrong
  18. They turned down Alexis Rios for Cain straight up just this past off-season, I can't imagine they'd make a similar trade for Corey, as big a part of the Brewers he's going to be (Anyway, any list that doesn't have Braun as one of the Top 25 Under 25 is a little questionable)
  19. Chris Capuano comes back to the team in early summer and wins 10 games Phillies take NL East Corey Hart makes All-Star team
  20. California--land of milk and honey, fruits and nuts In all seriousness, it is amazingly gorgeous here in Northern California with access to all kinds of stuff I couldn't easily get back in the Midwest (ocean, mountains, etc). Add to that a great amount of sports and culture and open-minded people and I'm good. I'll always consider Wisconsin "home" as well but it's going to be hard to leave this place
  21. Four bottles of wine after work with two friends; I was loaded to the gills but now just sleepy
  22. Yeah, I had him in mind. Wes Helms, too. You factor in David Bell and three of the four big scapegoats (player-wise) out there recently have Brewer connections.
  23. I get the strong feeling if he produces there like he has here the last couple years, the fans there are going to eat him alive--he'll become the new whipping boy out there. He doesn't have the reservoir of goodwill built up there like he did here, and if the Philadelphia fans turned on Mike Schmidt I don't think they'll have a lot of patience for Our Jenks.
  24. I thought this guy was a bit of a punk but man did he look like Prince Fielder: http://fullertontitans.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/cutley_scott00.html
