  1. This sweet jam is absolutely in my head tonight: http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=7673
  2. The real kicker for me is this one lasted past Midnight EST.
  3. Yeah, sorry, that's what I meant but I think I was reliving my strange childhood crush on Audrey Meadows when I typed the post!
  4. I love this thread. James Best, my man Roscoe P. Coltrane from The Dukes Of Hazzard, is 87. Joyce Randolph, Alice Kramden from The Homeymooners (which I only ever knew as a revered one-from-the-vaults rerun in the 80s but watched faithfully) is still around at 88. Marla Gibbs from The Jeffersons (I had a great conversation with her when I worked for Actors Equity in which she was friendly but occasionally spoke to me like I was George Jefferson) is a spry 82.
  5. I know Rickie's still here (for now?), but jeez, this feels like the true end of an era I can remember us all excitedly awaiting here almost a decade back.
  6. Yeah, it is despicable, isn't it? He cheated and he lied for his own benefit. Period. (And he threw an innocent--although incompetent--person under the bus while doing so, which makes it worse). Problematic to say the least and a major disappointment. I hope he can redeem himself in the long run in deeds on and off the field.
  7. I know when you take the whole state into account it's different (perhaps), but I always found it interesting that the AAA team's market was bigger than the MLB team's in this case.
  8. You make it sound like he was pocketing post-it notes when this was more along the lines of embezzlement. Why would breaking the rules and self-righteously lying about it not be a reason to be villified? I don't really think Braun is the "cockroach" that Passan describes (and yeah, I'm more offended by the drunk driving and criminal assault we see from athletes, including our own Brewers), but this is pretty shameful behavior from him.
  9. Yes, seriously. I am far from perfect, and I'm generally far from judgmental (believe it or not), but this is basic right and wrong stuff. I thought?
  10. I don't idolize, worship, or look upon these guys as super heroes. I'm not shocked. I don't think this is a crime against humanity. I'm not deluded. (Given your tone, I think you meant sympathy instead of empathy. Know what you're saying before you condescend.) I fully understand this is entertainment. None of that changes that the leader of a team we are all at least somewhat invested in was a cheat and a bald-faced liar regarding the rules of the game for almost two years. That's disappointing. Was it a mistake? Obviously. Can he change? Sure, hopefully. It's still disappointing.
  11. Well, it would have been best if he'd just accepted the suspension at the start, but yes, that would have been the right thing to do.
  12. For some reason I keep imagining Aoki's translator whispering to him while Braun addressed the team today.
  13. It's strange to me that so many assume this is a perfect time for him to get suspended and it "clears the way" or whatever for 2014, as if we can believe that Braun is going to be the same player we've known him as without PEDs.
  14. This sounds like two different things. To each their own, but personality and character do matter to me; they breathe life into the games we're watching and teams we follow. I don't think I'm hurt or angry by the use itself, I've got mixed feelings about PEDs and their limits/benefits, but I'm rather disappointed by his indignant lying and slight insinuation that there might've been tampering. (I'm also fairly embarrassed how much I believed that the failure in the collection process led to the "false" positive a la Diane Modahl...I got in a lot of online arguments defending Braun's "honor" the last couple years.)
  15. The solution is clear to get us over that .018 hump: hire Harry Dalton.
  16. I'd like to see them survive tomorrow just to say they took it all the way to the last series of the season, but regardless, they had an all-time classic run these last two months that puts them into Team Streak territory for me.
  17. Oh, there's a ton of "at least he admitted it" and "Braun got off on a technicality/because of Selig/because he's white" on the radio and newspaper comment sections here. That mishandling of samples does cause false positives (Diane Modahl) and that bruan's numbers before and after his false positive are totally different than Melky's doesn't seem to get through to them; getting pretty upset about it.
  18. Not a new tale but dragging Braun himself into it... http://blog.sfgate.com/giants/2012/05/23/why-the-sf-giants-are-not-happy-with-ryan-braun-plus-schulman-actually-uses-a-sabermetric-stat-and-other-notes/?tsp=1
  19. Saw Doug Melvin down in the tunnel after the game headed towards the clubhouse; "Needed this one!," he said.
  20. The good news is the Giants aren't exactly throwing out a potent attack this evening either
  21. I'll be out there this evening in my Cerveceros shirt and ball-and-glove cap, keeping blue against the sea of Orange Friday. Would've rather seen Aoki out there in Left than Morgan if Braun couldn't go but I guess Morgan's done well in limited at-bats against Timmy. Aoki sitting also makes me think that Braun might be out for PH duty too.
  22. Yeah, but I'm wary of even equating the two: ignoring everything else, Braun was declared innocent while Bonds is going up the river.
  23. Just thought I'd bump this to see how things have been for fans attending road games re: Braun since I'll be at AT&T tomorrow night. I feel like the issue is too complex to even bother arguing with anyone who's going to mouth off about it at any rate. (And SF, which worshiped Barry Bonds when he was here and where I used to hear all kinds of odd philosophical pro-Bonds/steroids arguments is kind of an odd duck for it, similar to Chicago and St. Louis, which worshiped Sammy and Big Mac. They've been increasingly hostile to the Brew Crew here after the bowling-pin celebration and Nyjer's antics last year, so I'll probably hear it anyway.)
  24. I really thought they were going to gut-punch us there. About as happy as I can be after dropping 2 of 3 to those guys
