  1. I'm disgusted and cracking up at the same time. Ah, beer. Ah, Wisconsin.
  2. I can tell you they love Eveland out here...one of the few young A's who's getting a lot of press. I think Beane and the Oakland organization really love the guy and Eveland's found a home and room to grow.
  3. I get the feeling tomorrow's gonna be a romp with Big Ben on the mound...I'd be a little more wary of a letdown with one of our other vets up there
  4. I knew a Ben Gay in elementary school in Fort Atkinson, but that's relatively common
  5. Good thing Omar "Broadway's dark tooooniiiiiight" Vizquel won't be able to start
  6. Dude SeriesFinale, I think that is sig worthy. Made me laugh out loud. Thanks, I actually surpassed expectations and had two beers and then even got a little grocery shopping in. Time for the post-season: dinner and maybe a movie. Anyway, yeah, Gagne looked miles ahead of last Monday in terms of comfort. I thought the comments about "Opening Day jitters" were a little ridiculous for someone who's supposed to be a steely veteran, but maybe that was indeed the case. The drunk-guys-running-on-the-field thing was embarrassing, but at least they were the tackled and not the tacklers. Kuiper and Krukow were pretty unamused at the least. As far as the Giants' AAA team goes, that's what they need to do more of--run Velez, Bocock, Ortmeier, Davis, and all the rest of the young guys out there as much as possible since the old duffers aren't gonna cut it anyway (regardless of what Durham did today) and you might as well give the rookies some PT. It seemed like the Brew Crew was trying to give this game away with their defense today but thankfully the Giants' inexperience trumped that.
  7. Let's get Big Ben his first W of the year
  8. If I were talking about if Rickrolls were funny or not, that would be one thing. It's like when we used to have people saying "Nascar sucks" in Nascar threads or "wrestling sucks" in wrestling threads. If you don't want to do it and think it's played out, so be it, no reason to poo poo the thread. I've known about Rickrolling since the beginning as well, but it's still funny to a large group of people. Well, if you're asking what it adds to the thread, I'd just submit that it adds more than someone just writing "Hahahahaha that's awesome" or whatever. He gave his reasons why he didn't want to do it, I don't think it was as simple as "Rickrolling sucks." I mean, I go out of my way to not open threads about NASCAR or whatever and it always annoys me when someone comes into, say, a soccer thread just to say "Soccer sucks" but then again the topics are there for everyone's discussion, not just for those who hold the same opinions I do. Anyway, I went ahead and voted just now after all.
  9. Yeah, every time I'd go to Manhattan for something and come back home to Chicago, I'd get the same feeling I'd get going to Milwaukee or Madison from Chicago. The energy shift is palpable. I can't even imagine what it must be like in a place like , say, Cairo. London doesn't feel as "muscular" as New York since it lacks a Midtown-esque gaggle of skyscrapers. London still has that energy though. I think a big thing for cities is a lot of foot traffic--LA is about 10+ times the size of San Francisco population-wise, but SF always feels more urban to me for whatever reason--always a lot of people coming and going, business districts and neighborhoods hopping, trains and buses and trolleys racing by, etc
  10. I'm on pace to take a shower and go get a beer
  11. How exactly did this add to the thread? Just the guy's opinion. Everything moves pretty fast on the net, I thought this was over and done with too but it seems to have popped up everywhere lately. Anyway, I started to vote but that's a lot of information they ask for...yeah, I'd fake it but it's lot of effort. I'm sure the internet will pick up my slack.
  12. Correia has me most worried out of the Giants' starters this weekend (although Sanchez looked much better--relatively speaking for a guy who gave up 7 earned runs in 5 1/3--than I expected). He looked pretty good in beating the Crew last August in SF and he's just generally the kind of MOR righty the Brewers seem to struggle against. Zito looked awful in his first start; it appears he's lost even more velocity than he did last year and he doesn't have the control he once did.
  13. Also, it's embarrassing that the park is half-full at best when they're introducing the team on Opening Day as it appeared to be on TV today (and as it definitely was in '06, '05, '04 which were the most recent home openers I've attended). Can the underage/college-aged binge-drinking demographic that appears to make up the lion's share of the home opener crowd these days get it together to at least come in to cheer on the Crew as they start the season? Those coolers and quarter-barrels of the cheap local stuff will still be there after they stumble back out to the parking lot.
  14. Yeah, I just came in to post this--watching the game now myself. The CSNBA feed at first only showed him glaring and pointing from 3rd to home and I thought, "Oh man, splitter was right" but the next shot of Prince it was definitely clear he was playing around with Sveum, laughing and nodding and jawing. Good actor. I think we read way too much into his comments and the fact that he's just generally a stolid kind of guy.
  15. By the way, I really hope this isn't the case. If so, it needs to be reined in, stat. I think maybe knowing Prince's comments lately we read too much into stuff though.
  16. Man, am I sorry I missed sleeping overnight at MP or paying a scalper a premium to attend this.
  17. Reminds me of the consecutive hit strike question a few years back...was that Rollins whose streak straddled two seasons?
  18. There will be a ton of them on eBay in 10, 9, 8, 7... Wait a couple days, you'll be able to get one for much cheaper next week than you will this weekend.
  19. Was that a joke or was someone partaking in some frosty Opening Day adult beverages
  20. Loving this KNBR post-mortem (fitting term for it for the Giants, too)....Hall and the Beer Barrel Polka are getting their due
  21. I missed a Brewers loss somewhere, thankfully I guess we won't see Salomon the rest of the weekend. Great, great opener. I'm upset we didn't get the more aesthetically pleasing 14 runs though!
