  1. Interesting: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2007/11/astros-interest.html http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bb/5278635.html I can't imagine they'd snag both but that'd be brutal to have them both walk to a divisional rival (depending of course on cost)
  2. There was a WS game on Sunday when NBC had their game on. Actually, there wasn't: NBC deferred.
  3. I feel for old duffers like that, but the 20-some year old dudes crying? Yeah, I relished that a little too much.
  4. Bah, I don't let that stuff work me up...I lived in Chicago for several years and the biggest proponents of that mentality are usually from crummy suburbs.
  5. I'd have thought Leyva would have been good on staff for the "short lease" policy, too, a la Jim Lefebvre several years back.
  6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I moved from Wisconsin to Sarasota, Florida in 1984 at 8 years old...I had been going to Brewers games since I was a toddler but didn't follow any other sport and my family weren't huge football fans. By the time I got interested in fottball, it was from going to see the local team play. This was the late 80s, they were really awful for the first 10 years I followed them, which made the Super Bowl win all the sweeter.
  7. I know the Cubs fouling the sheets against Arizona should make me feel better (and it does, no doubt), but it also makes me angrier that the Brewers couldn't remove their heads from their tails and beat this lousy overpaid heartless Cubs team that we'll doubtlessly hear loudly about from drunk clueless idiots from crummy Chicago suburbs next year at MP. The Brew Crew went 5-2 against AZ...I'm sure we could've taken at least one game.
  8. I'm not normally given to schaednfraude, but these pics are the antidote to photos of Little Z and A-Ram celebrating last week: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-071006cubsfans-photogallery,0,7763433.photogallery?coll=chi_tab01_layout
  9. So glad my mind can now claim back that Undertones somg from the despised Cubbies
  10. Picked up steam as it went along Always liked the Beachwood
  11. 1. He's a businessman bottom line, he's got a product to sell. 2. He's done what I believe has been quite a good job so far, and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. 3. A mass email to the fans is not really the forum to call out or defend the manager or individual players--I'd think it pretty classless if he did that.
  12. Just got this in my email...some platitudes, but I appreciate his effort. He does ignore a few elephants in the room, but it probably wasn't the forum for them anyway:
  13. Well, to be fair to Ned, we've had only three losing seasons with him here in Milwaukee.
  14. The Brewers should be getting ready to play in Phoenix this evening. After a couple days of quiet, having to hear all about the Cubs in the playoffs is stirring up old bad feelings I was just starting to get over.
  15. It's nice to be able to sit and watch some baseball games (well, except for a certain game in Phoenix tonight) without the burden of emotional investment.
  16. Ned's quote in the J-S season review today cracked me up: "I had four or five different goals in mind. Breaking the attendance record was one of them. Playing meaningful games deep into September was another. And playing winning baseball for the first time in 15 years. That's a huge hurdle to get over. We were hoping to do it all in one year but we missed it by two games." Really? Breaking the attendance record was one of his goals? Has this been stated previously? Is that even in his control? I hate to be cynical, and I'm slightly pro-Ned staying, but it's almost like he's adding this stuff on now so he can point to an "accomplished goal" in order to save his job (which I don't believe is in true danger right now).
  17. I tend to agree that it wasn't their best. I watched it online though and never got bored. My favorite part was Dwight usuing a real revolver to start the race
  18. Yeah, I was really keeping my fingers crossed for an additional Brewers' series out here--on the other hand, we all know how they do on West Coast trips
  19. I've been piecing it together from other team's released home skeds...I know the Brew Crew opens up the second half after the AS Game here in San Francisco
  20. I agree, but that's out of our hands now. Although, there'd be nothing greater than closing out the 2008 season against the Northsiders at an MP bereft of loudmouth Cubs' fans because the Crew had wrapped up the division a week earlier.
  21. First-ballot Walk of Fame It sounds ridiculous, but it's something
  22. Jenks is a youngster in the eyes of the Giants! They'll probably haze him or have him shining Vizquel's shoes! Not to chnage the topic, but they're really pulling for Vizquel to come back here. If Jenks isn't to be in a Brewers' uni next season (and I don't think it's looking good), I'd love the chance to see him split left wit Rajai Davis here next year. If Dunn doesn't come here (which is likely, despite Giants' fans wishes, I think), then SF could do worse than a Davis/Jenks platoon.
  23. All I see is a pole-smoker smoking a particularly big pole
  24. Thanks, Jenks. (Man, I hope he signs with the Giants next year)
