  1. I mentioned this in the Transactions thread, but the radio stations here in the Bay Area are reporting this as well but they keep sourcing it back to the Sun-Times article this morning (as are ESPN radio, etc) which basically says "look for things to heat up on that front." Well, of course, I'm sure a lot of teams are inquiring. I just don't know what the Cubs could possibly offer Beane for Harden this year that wouldn't set the major league team back a little.
  2. Here's the article by the way: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/deluca/1042571,CST-SPT-deluca07.article I just don't see Beane dealing Harden for what the Cubs have while the A's are in striking distance, but who knows
  3. They're reporting here in the Bay Area that the Cubs and A's are in "deep talks" for Harden, but they're going on a report from the Sun-Times, which I read this morning and didn't think seemed too pressing. I'd be really interested in what the Cubs would have to give to Beane for him--they don't have a lot in the cupboards right now and I'd assume Beane would have to be absolutely compelled. Regardless, a Zambrano-Harden-Lilly rotation still pales next to a Sheets-Sabathia-Parra rotation in my opinion. Not by a lot, but Harden is definitely a consolation prize.
  4. ESPN front page, a beautiful sight: Hello, Wisconsin! http://assets.espn.go.com/photo/2008/0706/mlb_a_sabathia_412.jpg
  5. Whether it's Green or not I just hope we know who it is sooner than later...I don't like the idea of hanging on a wire about this for another three months...although I hope our attention will be thoroughly diverted in August and September
  6. The moods of these two press conferences couldn't be starker, as you'd expect. Shapiro looks like he's on the verge of tears while talking about the way the season turned out and hearing the frustrations of the Cleveland press.
  7. Shapiro said the PTBNL has the "outside chance to be an everyday major-leaguer" but then turns around and says the deal wouldn't have happened without it. Apparently they have until the end of the major league season to take care of that.
  8. Should be interesting watching this Cleveland press conference now
  9. When I heard them say Sa-bay-thia earlier I was wondering if I'd been the one saying it wrong all this time Unbelievable they don't know that.
  10. The fact that Doug said there's a couple dates for the PTBNL makes me wonder if the rumors about it being a performance-related list aren't true.
  11. Doug's saying all the right things here about Mark A, Jack Z, the team, the fans, LaPorta, and C.C.
  12. Well, not to start this already, since we've already been going over this with Big Ben, but I don't fault him as a father and a husband and a son to try and get the best financial situation he can. I don't want to think of the guy as a mercenary at the same time: the team made an investment in him and he is a Brewer and I think he's happy to be here and help the team--his team--make a push for the playoffs and beyond. But if I don't hold these business decisions against someone like Big Ben, who we've come to know and love, I certainly won't hold them against C.C.
  13. Nice use of Corey's smiling half-mountain man face on top of the page to admonish me to drop what I'm doing (browsing bf.net, working, spending time with my wife) and vote, vote, vote!!!
  14. Yeah, they're still getting around to changing the text but some of it's there: Baseball is his passion. Family is his life. The Brewers are his team. C.C. seems willing to come right out and say what the teams and even the media aren't yet officially.

  16. I think it looks pretty good, honestly, and I'm glad to see he didn't hesitate to wear the colors Should be a fun ride the rest of the way
  17. This was the team that he came up with and the guys and atmosphere he knows. Cleveland was supposed to be great this year and they're only making this move because they practically have to (and as a lifelong Brewer fan, I know awful, and while they're not good, they're not plumbing any depths I've never seen before). I'm sure it's pretty bittersweet for him. The sweet part is he has the chance to make a real difference in a pennant race, of course. I'd love to have C.C. enter Brewer lore before we part ways this Fall.
  18. I like this idea. Hopefully they don't pull this ghastly tune out of the mothballs though!
  19. It's probably the same Cleveland radio station that reported the deal was LaPorta and Escobar and Salome There's just no repercussions for lack of credibility anymore I suppose
  20. This sounds to me like this guy's just throwing stuff against the wall. How is Periard worth more than Jeffress?
  21. This earlier post has me wondering about the rules regarding PTBNL now, if there are any. Or is it just that it's highly unusual to see those with the mandatory experience and/or not on the DL turn out to be PTBNL?
  22. This just about completes the picture. I'll be sad to see Green go if he does, but I do think it beats Gamel or Escobar or Jeffress or some of the other names kicked around. Green could be a real steal for the Indians eventually.
  23. A39 and the press are contradicting each other here, interesting
  24. TH says Zach Jack and Bryson as well: http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2008/07/06/jackson-bryson-included-in-trade.aspx
  25. Yeah, this makes me uneasy. Not to mention, THIS thread could get up to 76 pages before the deal is put to bed
