  1. I admit I didn't care for the tone : "We're taking away your ball for a while so you can sit in the corner and think about what you've done." I don't like being talked to like a child and I didn't think the occasion required it. There was good reason to shut it down for a while, but admonishments to "read and reread" the terms of use seemed unnecessary. We're all adults here.
  2. I gotta say, I'm not particularly bothered by this. I'd rather Braun and the Brewers garner real, earned honors than these jokes perpetuated by an ignorant populace. I'd have been much more excited to have seen Sheets earn the start as decided by his peers (which I don't think he has, unfortunately) than to know Braun got voted in by some no-lifer in Fond Du Lac or Waukegan or Hiroshima with a few dozen internet proxies. That said, I would of course have loved to have seen Braun start, but I'm more excited about other possibilities. Same reason I was excited but ultimately somewhat embarrassed by our massive and successful push to get Jenks on the AS team in an otherwise barren season a few years back.
  3. When I saw it was locked I assumed the trade went down finally and raced to the Major League forum On the other hand, I'm kinda glad it was locked because with every two-three line post people made about what they wanted/didn't want and/or how they were excited about the possibility (posts I was VERY guilty of, especially late at night, ahem), I refreshed and checked in automatically because I thought it might be actual news. Which begs the question: don't the pageviews add to advertising revenue? or does it just cost much more in bandwidth? Or is it merely about "keeping Brewerfan beautiful"? (Which I also understand and appreciate) I've got no horse in this one; I'm just curious.
  4. I'm feeling Early May '07-levels of Brewers-related euphoria lately. You know, the golden olden days? When you get Bush clicking like that and you can practically feel a team gelling together, it's a beautiful thing.
  5. I still think we're gonna sign Sheets next year regardless of what happens...talk about someone who people seem to be at peace with his departure! It sucks to let LaPorta go but given our needs and our league I'd rather see him depart than Gamel, and it's gonna take one of the two
  6. This trade will happen or not whether we're at the computer or not. I'm glad I went out to the Farmer's Market this morning and had breakfast with my wife rather than refreshing here all morning like I was tempted to. Like Doug "Bob" Melvin said, it's in Cleveland's hands now. It just seems that LaPorta's as good as gone and most here have made their peace with that!
  7. Interesting comment on mlbtraderumors: Of course, someone then follows up with: Pretty funny. "Interesting" concept, anyway.
  8. I was thinking as you were being taken away (BA even commented that you had to leave because of the interference) that I hoped they didn't actually boot "that guy" all the way out since I felt it wasn't done with any malice and it seemed a play that was easily confusing. I'm sure Pirates fans aren't happy with you, however.
  9. Just what the Doc (Medich) ordered after yesterday's mess, eh? Picking up a game and C.C. Sabathia (at a reasonable price) tonight and this will have been a great July 4th
  10. Yeah, right after I posted that about Bush, I thought "Wait...just where would he go in the pen and why?", especially since CV has been quite effective in long relief. If they get just one or the other of Sabathia and Maddux I'd assume Bush keeps his spot in the rotation and McClung takes over Mota's spot in the pen but who knows.
  11. To be honest with you, I love Ned's answer there about where Sabathia would fit in. Why create discontent in the clubhouse by speculating what current member of the team would go down, especially when there's still a good chance of Sabathia not coming. I also have to say that I love the idea of both Maddux and Sabathia coming...putting McClung and Bush in the bullpen "solves" (as it were) a couple of other problems for us.
  12. It's gotten so bad I'm even checking the ESPN boards. At least I saw this cool post there: Anyway, I've done more than my fair share in accidentally turning this from the "C.C. Sabathia Thread" to the "C.C. Sabathia Excitement Thread" so I apologize and sign off for the night
  13. Yeah, ELCABALLO45, it somewhat surprised me that TH was still up and working as well (although he might be jet-lagged!)
  14. TH thinks the specifics of Rosenthal's column are bunk Interesting: TH might be trying to defend his own reportage but he does spend a lot of time with the team. Smoke has been blown up in his direction before, however. I hope TH is right, with a twist: I'd think I'd rather see LaPorta and Green than Gamel and Green
  15. Somebody asked what it would take to get Sizemore and Sabathia and someone (correctly, IMO) replied, "The Huntsville Stars." I've got tickets for all three San Francisco games after the break...I really want to see CC pitch for the Crew that weekend (esp. since he's a local guy--Vallejo)
  16. Hopefully third time (the "Dunn trade", the Yost "firing") is a charm, provided the price is right If he doesn't come here, I just don't want to see him in a Cubs uniform
  17. Closing in on midnight out West here....I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve waiting for Santa Melvin to come down the chimney with a stud pitcher for us Before I'd be surprised if this happened prior to the All-Star Break but the heat on this one's getting so intense I almost expect it to be done any minute now. I do think if the Brewers are going to do it, they need to do it now--squeeze as much blood and guts and grit (and battle) as we can get from C.C. With their sweeping on the Southside this week and Shapiro's comments, I believe the Indians are ready.
  18. All things considered, even Sutton wasn't as big as this would be--Sutton was more akin to us getting Maddux now. The Sexson and Carlos Lee trades are probably the next biggest but of course, we were sellers there
  19. Don Sutton was big Hopefully the same plays out here (if it happens)
  20. I'm not sure why Crabbe keeps getting thrown into these scenarios--the Pads basically gave up on him earlier this year already. And Maddux's value is higher by demand now than it was...I think it'll take a little more than just Gwynn or some Izturis-peer
  21. You left out the centerpieces of the deal: Volzquez and Turnbow.
  22. Link to Rosenthal's story Sorry to burst your bubble but this is already old news...this story's got legs and they're moving a million miles an hour I do hope that Rosenthal's just throwing things against the wall, either Escobar or LaPorta leaving I can deal with (even for three months---this is the Cy Young winner who's been going deep and dominant and we are, yes, are in a pennant race), but both is a jagged pill to swallow.
  23. Silver lining: I thought the Giants had a night game tonight and was dreading the shelling I was sure the Cubs were gonna give Lincecum after today's meltdown. All of the sudden I turn around and the Giants already win it. Today still stings but not nearly as much as it might've in the present and may indeed prove to be "one of the 60 losses" when all is said and done.
