  1. Buster Olney's insider blog today mentions Milwaukee as a possible trade destination for Sabathia, among others.
  2. I always untucked and unbuttoned immediately after we were done shaking hands with the opposing team. I had a pretty traditional coach and that didn't seem to bother him one bit. It was more of a comfort thing for me. We had black uniform tops so they were pretty darn hot and most of us wanted to get out of them ASAP. Also some of those head first slides led to some very painful raspberries on the hips. Having extra shirt pressing on them never felt too good. Playing while untucked is sloppy. But once the game is over, the game is over.
  3. OOTP 9 should be out sometime soon and it will ship with real rosters.
  4. Branyan needs to hit .225 to be pretty darn valuable. He can still play 3b fine. And he can PH and play OF, too. Bottom line, he outhits all but one of the current roster vs. RH pitching. He hit .228 in '06 and put up a .327 OBP. His career line is .229/.327. Obviously he will always give you the slugging but the .327 OBP is pretty meh if you ask me. Couple that with the fact that he didn't get any better last year and had a declining contact rate, it tells me that Russell's bat has slowed down some. A 32 year old beating up on AAA pitching means nothing to me. He's fine AAA fodder. I still find Joe Dillon to be a much more preferable option to be the 25th man. I'd definitely take Branyan over Abe Nunez though. Unless a backup SS was needed. But if Branyan or Abe Nunez were to get significant at-bats for the Brewers, that would definitely not be good.
  5. Branyan needs to fluke his way into a .250 average in order to be an above average option. With him being on the wrong side of 30, how much third base does he play these days? The few Nashville box scores I've checked had him as a first baseman. I liked him for the Crew, but it wouldn't surprise me if he is in decline. His last few years in the majors were nothing to write home about. Plenty of power but such a low batting average leads to mediocre OBP's.
  6. Did you also correct him by saying Colorado didn't win the series last year, but Boston did? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif That was just me mis-speaking here http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Being corrected in a thread about correcting people.....
  7. I corrected a gentleman out at spring training when he was talking about how Tadahito Iguchi won a World Series with Colorado last year, when it was Kaz Matsui. He simply mixed up Japanese second basemen. Another time when we were playing the Cubs, the Cubs shortstop made a pretty decent play and a Cubs fan behind me yelled out, "Way to go DeRosa! That's why we signed you!" At that point I pointed out that DeRosa in fact played second base. I'll usually just point out factual stuff, not opinionated stuff.
  8. Oh, I know that it would be blacked out anyway, but it will probably still be blacked out for those of us with Extra Innings too.
  9. I don't see anything on the alternate RSN channels. I assume that with MLB's stupid blackout rules, the Reds feed will be blacked out for those of us in Wisconsin outside of Milwaukee. This irritates me to no end.
  10. I would never do the sit in the parking lot thing myself, as it would be absolutely silly for me to drive two hours to sit around in a parking lot. But I can certainly see why others want to do the same. I agree that if it's going to be a sellout game, then don't show up 30 minutes beforehand thinking that you can get parking. The prepaying for parking and not getting parking kind of sucks, but does it say anything in the fine print? I honestly don't know, I just buy it when I get there.
  11. Anybody with DirecTV not getting sound for the Pregame? Other channels work fine.
  12. My excuse was that the Brewers are playing. Nice to be your own boss. Although I do work Christmas day voluntarily so nobody can complain that I take trivial days off like today.
  13. Do the Hispanics handle the heat as well as the blacks? Something to ask Dusty Baker sometime.
  14. Those were close to my exact thoughts. After watching Claudio pitch last year, I came to the conclusion that he is a reliever pretending to be a starter. I don't consider this a loss of depth because I never really viewed him as depth. Good riddance, but good luck to Claudio.
  15. If Vinny could be one of those catchers that doesn't make you cringe, he should probably be able to hit enough. He may be old for being a prospect, but if he is a catcher, he is pretty young in catcher's years. He had pretty much limited himself to possibly being a four corners guy that couldn't hit enough to start at any of them. But moving him to being a full time catcher makes his weak bat at the 4C become all the more useful at catcher, relatively speaking. I wouldn't be surprised if Vinny is catching a lot of games for the Brewers' playoff team this year. Jason Kendall could get Soto'd again on a playoff team.
  16. 1) Corey Hart will be the team's MVP. 2) Guillermo Mota and Eric Gagne will be excellent. Torres will not. 3) Rottino takes a good share of the playing time away from Kendall by August.
  17. My friend and I were standing around where people get autographs. I wasn't really interested as I don't really like to bother players for autographs, I'll just buy them from the people that do. But anyway, my friend had a couple of balls he was going to try and get signed. We walked over to the area and he got a phone call and somebody asked if he was getting any autographs and he loudly said that it's pretty much impossible because there were "sharks" all around. That got a dirty look from a lot of people standing there. It did look to be a shark session though, as whenever a player appeared, a guy pulled out a book and started handing out pictures of that player to what appeared to be partners in getting as many autographs as possible. Otherwise, I got a chance to meet Mr. Attanasio briefly as he was sitting in my section. Seemed like a nice enough guy. My non-baseball stories aren't appropriate for a public forum http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Not sure if I'm too high on the Brewers moving to Florida either. I'll echo the sentiment that Maryvale is a not bad neighborhood. I'll agree that it is a bad neighborhood when it comes to things to do but it's certainly not a beaten down gang ridden neighborhood. Working class. I probably won't stay there again as I enjoyed the Peoria area quite a bit and would likely try to center future trips around Brewer games in Peoria. I'd mostly be disappointed if it moved to Florida because my spring training crew has 3 people from California. A lot easier for them to get there. I've never set foot in Florida so I can't say I hate Florida. I'd just rather it stay in Arizona.
  19. Heading out early tomorrow morning. If my west coast crew (got two meeting me from LA and one from SF) gets there on time we may catch tomorrow night's game. I'm pumped.
  20. This is a pretty good point. Part of plate discipline is seeing a good pitch early in the count and jumping on it. Rickie seems to have a very good eye for laying off the trash, but sometimes doesn't jump on the good ones early in the count, putting him behind. This was definitely more of a problem earlier in the year last year, obviously, due to his defensive approach at the plate. You can't say he was missing the pitches to hit in the latter parts of the season. I'm not too worried about him so long as his wrist is 100%.
  21. To me, Vargas is nothing more than a reliever. First, he's not that good. Second, he rarely gets past the 5th or 6th inning. I wish he'd just be converted to relief.... for somebody else. I'm fairly confident somebody else could step into the 8th starter role just fine. And for cheaper.
  22. Anybody heard how hard Capuano is throwing in Spring Training so far? Keith Law is very down on Capuano because he said he was throwing around 83 MPH last year. That's Brian Shouse territory. A guy like Capuano simply cannot lose velocity and be effective unless he has Jamie Moyer-like control. It could very well have been affected by his labrum injury in the non throwing shoulder. We can look at Capuano's FIP all we want, but if he hasn't regained any velocity, we're not even really looking at the same pitcher anymore. I'm usually a pretty strong stats guy, but something needs to be said about Cappy throwing Brian Shouse fastballs up there.
  23. Interesting. I think Chris Grinde, principal at SP deserves some culpability here. He obviously tried to cover his behind in the retraction. But why would Sauk Prairie try to inject themselves into this when he graduated from Stoughton. I know Grinde, and let's just say that I wouldn't put something like that past him. Let's just say he is a bit of a divisive figure. I never liked the guy, so I'm a bit biased. But that seems just like him to inject himself and the school into a national story and then when it's revealed that this was not the case, he goes into cover-my-tracks role. I could be wrong, who knows. Stoughton didn't make a big deal of it, perhaps because they did their own research and knew this was not the same guy.
  24. Hmmph... That sounds like a pretty bad error if it was reported by the WSJ. I didn't really think it looked like him (especially the high school photo) but I hadn't really seen him or remembered him since elementary school. Then I hear from my roomate that says it was him. The Stephen Kazmierczak I went to school with is probably a bit peeved at the moment.
  25. When this first happened and I saw the name of the shooter, it rang a bell. I went to school with this guy, in elementary school. My small little country elementary school in the Sauk Prairie School system has produced two murderers now.
