  1. But it wasn't a perfect game. He walked eight guys and hit another. I believe him. Box Score Snopes' take
  2. This is good news for Brad Nelson at the very least, I'd assume.
  3. 1. Trailer Park Boys (Canadian show, never got much play here in the states) 2. Seinfeld The list begins and ends there.
  4. As kids, we did the whole Ouija board thing. The main person we were 'communicating' with was somebody by the name of Jacob that died at 12 years old. Anyway, that whole phase passed and a few years later my mother was digging around her garden and hit a stone. She dug a little deeper and it turned out to be a grave stone. She turned it over, and guess what? The gravestone was for a Jacob that died at age 12 in 1860. To make it more interesting, this Jacob lived in our house.

  6. A small unincorporated town near me with maybe 30 people in the whole town has two taverns. And one of the taverns sells guns and ammunition behind the bar.
  7. Rain. When I got toilet papered, it rained the next morning. Problem solved.
  8. 109 Row 3
  9. I wouldn't say his weight gain has necessarily affected his offensive production. But what about defensively? I'd be curious what some of the metrics say. My eyes tell me that he's gone from terrible to absolutely brutal at first base.
  10. I may be wrong, but isn't the Mexican League a very extreme hitters league?
  11. If you are traveling by land or sea, you don't need a passport. Photo ID and birth certificate are good enough until summer of 2009. Technically you don't need one if you're flying to Canada, but you need one when coming back to the USA. Info here
  12. At least you weren't spitting tobacco on the ground. I always try to spit my tobacco into an empty beer bottle. Naturally when I set it down, it get knocked over under my seat though.
  13. Cuernavaca, Mexico This is not your typical beach side Mexican vacation but it is also a popular spot among the residents of Mexico City as a vacation spot. There is a lot of history in Cuernavaca as Hernan Cortes lived there. The Hacienda de Cortes resort is absolutely amazing. It's the old sugar plantation of Hernan Cortes turned into an absolutely beautiful resort. It's only about 50 miles from Mexico City. Downtown Mexico City is fairly neat but I much preferred Cuernavaca as the city I stayed in. There's a reason people from Mexico City use Cuernavaca as a nearby getaway. Western Ontario (English River System) Great fishing. Very remote.
  14. 1. Shouse 2. CC 3. Braun 4. Sheets 5. Marcus Hanel
  15. I'm not the biggest fan of putting Escobar at 2nd base. To me, that is a waste of his extraordinary defensive talents. And I mean extraordinary. I caught a good amount of Escobar down in spring training and was amazed at how good he is defensively. Many times there'd be a shot up the middle that I'm assuming would be a base hit, but Alcides would get there with relative ease and throw the guy out right on the money. I don't claim to be a scout, but I know a very very talented defensive shortstop when I see one. I don't see too many scouts saying his defense is overrated, either. I could see him being a ?20 run guy at SS. I might be a little hesitant to trade JJ after this year, but I'd probably look to do it after 2009. JJ is a very good player but I don't see him moving off shortstop. A trade could be a win-win for JJ and the Brewers at some point assuming we get a decent haul for him and Escobar can hit his own weight (which wouldn't be too hard). JJ would get to stay at SS and reap the rewards when he hits free agency.
  16. Isn't there a gap between where the fans are and the field in the part of the stadium where Braun hit his home run? It didn't look too far up in the stands but I could swear there is one of those deals where there are two walls that look like one from the camera angle given on the home run. I think he hit that ball further than some think, it just doesn't look like it from the camera angle.
  17. So I had an old friend staying with me for the week and he received a phone call last night from one of his friends that is a former college teammate of Jarrod Washburn's saying that Washburn was going to be a Brewer. I immediately dismissed that wondering why in the world the Brewers would trade for Washburn when they are already platooning their 5th starter? Then today this article out of Seattle was written naming the Brewers as a potential suitor. I have no idea about the credibility of my friend's source, and pretty much dismissed it off hand until I read that article. I wonder if he misunderstood that Washburn wants to be a Brewer instead of Washburn is going to actually be a Brewer. Personally, I don't see a point in picking up Washburn considering he'll make a good chunk of change next year. We already have a Washburn, he is right-handed and named Jeff Suppan.
  18. Buster Olney lists the Brewers and Angels as the logical destination for George Sherrill. Rosenthal says probably not for the Brewers.
  19. Article That is an article that Gammons linked to in the blog piece about Hamilton. This article is how Hamilton is serving as an inspiration for Jeff Allison, the former 1st round pick of the Marlins that has battled heroin addiction and OD'd a few times I believe. Good stuff, I'm rooting for both guys and anybody fighting addiction.
  20. With the article today that MLB Trade Rumors linked to, it makes me wonder whether the Blue Jays would be looking to move Halladay in the offseason. The article shows Halladay's increasing frustration with the direction the Blue Jays are heading. I've been a fan of Halladay forever (who wouldn't with the numbers he puts up?). Halladay is signed fairly reasonably through 2010, so we'd be getting him for two years. Also consider how well he pitches in the tough AL East. The biggest elephant in the room is what state the Blue Jays front office will be in, whether Ricciardi gets fired and who is brought in. The Blue Jays have shown interest in JJ Hardy, but of course it would take much more to get a player of Halladay's caliber. Just an idea I thought I'd float out there, a little early to be thinking of the offseason but any smart team is always thinking ahead. Link: Frustration Grows for Halladay
  21. Yes, unless you are dumping it out and using it as a spittoon.
  22. According to Buster Olney, Tampa seems more focused on getting a right-handed bat than they are a pitcher.
  23. For all the talk of the people that say we should keep Gamel over LaPorta (with very good reasons), is it possible that the Indians would demand our package revolve around Gamel and not LaPorta for all the reasons we are saying we shouldn't trade Mat over Matt? That said, I'd probably be willing to send one, but not the other. Gamel, Bill Hall, and Zach Braddock?
  24. I did see him walking around minor league camp this spring, but not pitching. Pascual is definitely a physical specimen for a pitcher.
  25. I don't see a failed one year deal as costing anybody a job. It's those darn 5 and 6 year deals that tend to sink GM's.
