  1. This will be year 2 of no televised Brewers games for me. I have YTTV. No other way to watch unless I switch providers, which I'm not going to do.
  2. And some people ripped Yelich for taking a "hometown discount" on the extension. Juan Soto reportedly turned down a $350 million extension by the Nats, I'm interested in seeing how that works out for him. He could have a career ending injury tomorrow and that money goes away forever.
  3. You need to include the cost of the 4 players the Braves had to give up to get Olson. If one or more of those players becomes an impact player in the MLB this could look bad for the Braves. Of course we won't know that for years.
  4. I'm sure the delay in Bryant signing is that he was waiting, hoping, for any decent team to offer money similar to Colorado. But it never happened.
  5. Hello world.
  6. That makes sense as Max Muncy is coming off an elbow injury and might not make it back for the first month or so of the season. So the Dodgers need a stopgap.
  7. I always laugh when I see baseball fans wringing their hands over every rules change in baseball as if the first rules had been handed down on tablets by God. The NFL changes their rules every year and no one gives a hoot. And it's still the most popular sport in the USA by a wide margin.
  8. MLB Tonight posted the graphic for about the last 5 seasons. I don't remember the exact stats but last year it was about 30 players while in previous seasons it was around 0-3 players. There was a significant rise in 2021.
  9. Get this deal done, sign Freddie Freeman and head to Maryvale!
  10. That's good news. It's annoying that coming up with this took more than an hour. This really should have taken like 5 minutes, yet MLB and players punted away a weeks worth of revenue and made it take a full day. If they get a deal done today I guarantee they will play 162.
  11. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/03/mlb-announces-postponement-of-games-through-april-14.html There's no doubt the MLBPA has opposed it for a long time as the owners have brought it up continually since 2002. What I don't know is if they opposed it during the more recent negotiations. Personally, I think the MLBPA was OK with it until they very recently started getting blowback from Latin American players who appear not to really have a seat at the negotiations. Based on the MLBPA offering to put QO's/draft pick compensation back on the table after this season if an agreement cannot be reached with MLB by November 15, 2022 on the international draft, it would appear to me they don't oppose the concept, but want to take a closer look at how this will impact the young players in places like the DR before it is signed into law so to speak.
  12. That's not what I understand to be the case. The problem is that I've heard from so many people (Joel Sherman, Ken Rosenthal, Evan Drellich, Jon Heyman, Tom Verducci, JP Morosi, et al.) I can't remember who said it. What I know for certain is that the owners didn't suddenly come up with the idea of an international draft at the last minute as that has been on the table from day 1.
  13. The owners proposal with an international draft would allow more spending for the league as a whole as compared to what is allowed now. The slotting system would flatten the amount of money the top end talent gets, but it will not decrease the amount of money flowing into countries like the DR. And the top end talent still will make life changing money. And people need to stop saying this came up in the last minute. An international draft has been proposed by the owners in every labor negotiation since 2002 and it has been part of the 2021-22 negotiations since the first proposal!!
  14. It was not a last second add on by the owners. It was part of the agreement all along. It's just now the MLBPA objected to it. I'm an attorney and I've been part of mediations before where the parties feel like they are very close to a deal and then one party objects to something at the last minute that has previously been agreed to. Then all hell breaks loose and things go downhill quickly. It's not pretty.
  15. These idiots can go jump in a lake. It's like they want people to leave the sport.
  16. You are correct. It's the mid and small market teams that don't want the CBT increased to the level the MLBPA wants because they believe it will price them out of contention for the playoffs/world series due to big market spending.
  17. I'm out. These people can go screw themselves. After the 1994 strike I didn't watch a baseball game again until 1999. Maybe in 5 years I'll check back in and see how the league is doing. Spitting in the face of your fans/customers is no way to do business. Edit - And I also want to say that Rob Manfred is the worst commissioner of baseball in my lifetime (50 years). If the owners had any sense (they don't) they would fire Manfred immediately and replace him with someone who has some intelligence and common sense.
  18. I'm right there with you. I'd rather the Brewers leave than to spend one more penny of taxpayer money. Let some other city empty their coffers for a team with an estimated value of over a billion dollars and an owner with an estimated net worth of $700 million.
  19. I strongly disagree.
  20. No blue needed. We need to up the payroll so he's a smaller part of it
  21. Whether it's a lottery with top 3 or top 5, teams will still tank to get into the top 3 or top 5. Look at the 76ers in the NBA.
  22. I get why you normally would give a bad team a higher draft slot. However, in practice the teams that most blatantly took advantage of sucking for several years to get high draft picks (and the slot money they could then be used down draft) were the large market Cubs and Astros. That incentive to lose for years on end needs to be removed somehow.
  23. I still think I'd be opposed to scrapping #2 but I do like MLBs proposal to have a draft lottery. I just would probably expand it to more than 3 slots. Totally agree on #3. I wish they would use some type of NFL formula. Lost X players to free agency, signed X players in free agency and based on the net loss of talent you get some supplemental pick compensation. I'm not wedded to any specific solution to #2, but the system of richly rewarding teams like the Cubs and Astros for intentionally sucking for a number of years so they could get top picks (and the slot money that goes with them) has to be stopped and stopped now. A lottery like the NBA would help--but teams still tank in the NBA (I'm looking at you 76ers). While it helps a little it does not solve the problem.
  24. In my 51 years on this Earth I've never observed a commissioner with less common sense than Rob Manfred--in any sport. He can find a way to get ANY decision wrong. The man is so oblivious he called the trophy that bears his name, "just a piece of metal." He is a disgrace to the sport and I have little faith he can successfully foster an agreement on the CBA.
