  1. I'm far from a pro Players Association guy but there are three important issues in this standoff that put me clearly in their camp. 1) MLB needs a salary floor so teams cannot strip their teams down to AAAA rosters and pocket the competitive balance tax. 2) MLB (and all leagues for that matter) need to stop rewarding losers with the highest draft picks. Losing should be shameful and painful and every team on every day should be trying to win games. To have rules that reward losers is morally repugnant. I would favor a draft wheel (I think that's what it called) where by random draw every team get the first overall pick once in the next 30 years, second overall pick once every 30 years, etc. 3) Teams forfeiting draft picks for signing free agents who were offered a qualifying offer needs to stop. This punishes the players and leads to all sorts of manipulation. I have no objection to awarding sandwich picks to teams that lose free agents but players being saddled with a draft pick penalty is stupid and wrong.
  2. You spend a lot of time on this board telling other people they are wrong, when in reality, none of knows what the future will bring. Binelas (just taking one example in the trade) may end being the next Jeff Bagwell (who was traded by the Red Sox to the Astros for 22 innings from Larry Anderson) or he might be one of a million guys included in a trade who never sniffs the majors. And Renfroe might put up a 2-3 WAR season or he might regress to his replacement level 2020 performance. So crapping on the opinions of others is probably not in order.
  3. Red Sox fans at Sons of Sam Horn are very happy with this trade. They are more than happy to pay JBJ for the prospects coming in. How good this trade is for the Brewers will depend largely on Binelas. He has elite power and that's not something you can teach. I think we can all be confident that Renfroe will play well at a position of need for the Brewers and JBJ will likely continue to be a sucking chest wound on offense.
  4. Severino is 6 years younger and better with the bat. Your argument seems quite ludicrous and completely not based in any sort of reality IMO. He's not better with the bat vs. LHP, which is where Pina had value. Severino is younger. Big deal. Pina signed for 2 years. Pina is also actually a good defensive catcher as opposed to the butcher, Severino. Your argument seems quite ludicrous and completely not based in any sort of reality IMO. I also find it comical we are still discussing the signing of this chump over a week later while the rest of the league signs high quality FA's. But then most of you have been conditioned over the years to eating gruel so you ignore the USDA Prime ribeye that other fans get to eat.
  5. The Brewers became a worse team by letting Manny Pina walk and signing this guy. But Mark A. saved a few nickels so there's that.
  6. Billy Eppler was the GM of the large payroll Angels from 2015 to 2020. During that time the Angels made the playoffs zero times. They finished an average of 18 games out of first place in their division per season. Does that suggest the Mets hired him as a visionary of the future, to lead their large payroll team into the promised land? Or was he hired as a one year stop gap for a year to keep the seat warm for DS to come in as President of Baseball Operations/GM to call all of the shots? I think the latter.
  7. Stearns will be the President of Baseball Operations for the Mets in 2022, if not sooner. If I was Mark A., I would trade Stearns to the Mets now for a decent return. There's no point in having DS run the Brewers for another year when you know he's leaving. And yes, he's leaving. Sandy Alderson is just keeping the seat warm for another year until DS is free of his Brewers contract.
  8. Can we not recycle 2 year old threads to discuss a player? Good grief. At least change the title.
  9. Well, he didn't punch a wall and break his pitching hand. So he has that going for him. Which is nice.
  10. It is my opinion he should be punished. I did not, however, say the Brewers sent him to Arizona as a punishment.
  11. he's in AZ to rehab to get ready for the ws. not for punishment. Devin ain't pitching in no World Series. This year anyway.
  12. Apparently Devin had surgery on Friday and has been sent to Arizona to rehab. I think it is excellent he has been sent out of state while the Brewers take care of their playoff business.
  13. I'm not even angry, pal. I believe that foolish and selfish behavior that significantly hurts the team calls for punishment. Sadly, most people today are more than happy to excuse all types of bad behavior. Unfortunately the Brewers still have to pay this guy. Doing something this dumb to deny your employer your services should result in no pay.
  14. I never compared Devin to OJ. I pointed out the idiocy of Stearns' quote. And it's a completely stupid quote.
  15. Stearns probably has a good opinion of O.J. Simpson if that is his point of view.
  16. At a minimum I want him sent to Arizona to rehab his hand. Away from this team. He does not deserve to hang out with the guys who are trying to deliver a World Series win for this team. If I was the GM I'd like to trade the guy, but I recognize potential buyers need to see how his surgery comes out before anyone would be willing to pay top dollar in a trade. Maybe by then I'd be less incensed and take the guy back at Spring Training and move forward. But we should not let this guy off the hook. His rash and stupid actions have seriously hurt the team at its most dire point of need. Just saying "oh well" is completely unacceptable.
  17. What thread have you been reading? I've read a ton of posts basically saying "oh well," or "he appears sorry so we should leave him alone." And people being shocked or disappointed in those posters who are outraged by this.
  18. I'm really surprised at the blasé attitude a lot of people here are taking. Like all he did was sneak dad's car out after curfew and put a ding in the quarter panel. His foolish and selfish actions have seriously undermined the chances this team has to win a World Series for the first team since . . . ever. Looking sorry in a meeting with the GM does not cut it.
  19. I would absolutely look to trade him after his hand heals and he shows it won't be a problem going forward. He is now outside the circle of trust.
  20. I hope they immediately send him to Arizona to rehab his hand. He should not be around this team for the playoffs. Banish him!
  21. Have not watched a single game this year. But I watch YouTubeTV every day.
  22. I will need to clarify as well. The $232 is for 7 months of AT&T Plus or about $32 per month (that is above the cost of YTTV). The channels I need are not overly rare, but a couple of them are a bit niche so they get run on higher tiers. While $232 for a season is not completely outrageous, I'm not keen on taking the trouble to change my package and lose all my recorded content. One of my must have channels is Turner Movie Classics and I have scores of movies recorded that I can watch anytime. It's my go to "when nothing else is on" option.
  23. I'm saving money with YTTV. I pay $68 per month all in. I think that's the middle tier. There are 5 channels I have to have and get them with YTTV. I pay nothing extra for unlimited recording. No rental fees, no boxes, no add on fees. Just $68. I priced out AT&T Plus to get the channels I must have and the amount of recording I currently have. It would be an extra $232 assuming I switched just as the baseball season started and canceled just as the season ended. This would also come with additional pain of losing all the content I have already recorded on YTTV. Spectrum? Please. I would rather be murdered and then set on fire while celebrating my birthday than to sign a 2 year contract with those turds. I will also say I have no other subscription content other than MLB.tv. Thankfully I'm not a fan of popular culture so I don't need to subscribe to Netflix, Hulu, Disney, Paramount, or the like.
