  1. You could even include what happened after Yelich fouled that pitch that whacked his knee cap.
  2. For all the Adames critics (and I've been one): Are we better without him? NO. NO. NO. Domestic duty calls me away. We'll win this game anyway.
  3. Looks like Freddie is throwing BP tonight. At least the pitches they're taking are mostly strikes.
  4. One thing you can be absolutely certain about in baseball, is that you cannot be absolutely certain about anything in baseball. Who bet on Tampa losing 20-1 to the Jays? (OK, it was more like 10-0 as the Rays gave up and let me pitch a couple of innings.) Disappointments are inevitable, but we have had some very nice surprises this year.
  5. We won a game and a series I did not expect to win. That's a good thing, regardless of whatever else. Woot!
  6. Thanks. I kinda figured that was the most likely thing. I have no probem with the contact play.
  7. I've been busy with some glass recycling and beer drinking with the glass crew, so I missed how we had a runner on 3d with 1 out and then ahd a runner on 2d with 2 out and no run. bughghghg I'm not sure I want to know how that happened
  8. I don't need a bunch of numbers I admittedly don't undertand (and which I doubt could ever give a real picture of everything) to smell the stench of that loss from 1000 miles away. BUT..., It was ONE GAME.
  9. By "all" accounts? I got the idea (admittedly from a single Attanasio interview, post-Hader) that he was being hands-off of Stearns; he basically just shrugged when asked about the Hader deal, though he seemed to passively disavow it. Was he hiding something?

  11. One thing you can be sure of: the baseball establishment will NEVER shorten the game by reducing the time for advertising.
  12. I suspect and hope you are right about the shift ban not being severe in practice. Maybe we will see defenses in motion. But I am staunchly against the shift ban in principle, as you suggest. I would rather see the batters bat against the shift. If small ball was dying, the shift ban may have killed it. At least the batters will not care about directional hitting (as if they do now). Hitting it hard will still be all that matters. I think small ball is exciting and interesting. And unless your team is hitting the homer, that's an intrinsically boring play: swing, crack, and -play over- everybody just watches the ball. It really does remind me of how cricket is changing to a slug-away style. <Ramble complete>
  13. This thread will not get any better than this post. It can now be closed!
  14. I HATE HATE HATE HATE (&c. times infinity) the banning of the shift, It was an organic, natural innovation (though not THAT new). It should be addressed by adjustments in tactics and strategy, not in a committee room. But then, I still hate the DH. Before long, we'll have T-20 baseball (That's a reference to fiddling with cricket to make it quicker; the Brits should just switch to baseball!) Pitch clock? I despise time-wasting (except my own), but I'm not sure how that will work and have not even tried to understand it. Good in principle, but I withhold judgment, as if our opinions count for squat. Base size? Meh. It's fine.
  15. OK. "could" happen. But I had to flinch at (1) the idea of an easy schedule when beating sub-.500 teams hasn't been that easy so far, and (2) the euphemism of "inconsistent" offense when "consistently sub-par" offense would seem more accurate. But I'd love to be wrong and to eat these words.

  17. The ultimate doomsday conclusion may be a bit harsh, but the rationale that Stearns made a humongous mistake certainly seems SPOT ON, and Attanasio rather passively confirmed that this was a "major league" screw up. I hope CC can rally the players to overcome the screwup.
