  1. We may trade another pitcher, but it certainly wouldn't be Peralta. He has the biggest upside of all of our young pitchers, he's cheap and under control for a very long time. We'd have to be blown away with an offer to move him.
  2. I'm not so sure about that. Well maybe compete for one, but nobody is going to just hand him one. He's what 35/36...coming off a torn ACL?
  3. Not only as insurance, but he does provide some right handed pop off the bench, which this team was sorely missing last year.
  4. Petersen would be great - he recruited great players and won at a place like Boise State...can't imagine what he would do at Wisconsin. That being said....I'm not sure I'm buying it. He's had numerous other offers and has never left. What would we have that would be the tipping point? I don't think he's from around here or anything?
  5. Ferris picked in the AAA portion by the Mariners - what else is new.

  7. From cnnsi...about Alvarez and about the Petersen rumor... When in doubt, call in a legend. University of Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez will coach the football team in the Rose Bowl, the State Journal has confirmed. A source close to the UW football program said the team's captains reached out to Alvarez and asked him to coach the team. ... Another source close to the UW Athletic Department said Alvarez has been in contact with Boise State coach Chris Petersen and an interview could happen as early as Monday. Both UW sources spoke on the condition of anonymity, because they have not been cleared to speak publicly on these issues. Petersen, 47, is the winningest active coach at the Football Bowl Subdivision level, with an 83-8 record (.912 winning percentage) over seven seasons.
  8. It sounds like they are in it - which we knew. I don't take that to mean they are frontrunners though. The longer this goes, the more teams that fill OF needs or spend money elsewhere, maybe the chances increase that he actually makes it here. I'd put that at about 1% though. Just don't see it happening, even though I would personally love it.
  9. Most of the lakes have much darker water, our you have almost no visibility to see into it. The surrounding lakes by us are pretty similar but I haven't been on all of them, probably not even half. The best lake I was ever on was in Melon, WI. Probably not too many people have even heard of it. It was called Twin Lakes - with two lakes connected by a narrow opening, and barely a boat launch (and later, no boat launch and you had to hike in over a mile to reach the lake). But it had easily the best fishing I've ever encountered, as well as an incredibly picturesque view on both lakes. No houses, then just one house. Saw many bears, deer, beavers, all kinds of wildlife come down to the water on many different occassions. Sadly, this lake was ruined by one person. I won't rant on it as that will do no good, but it's now 2 lakes, with crappy fishing. Sad.
  10. Anywhere on the chain of lakes in the Three Lakes/Eagle river area is nice. We have a place on Deer Lake - 27 lakes connected so you can literally do anything you want somewhere - and get to all if it by water. Not too over crowded, water is relatively warm, fishing is decent and it's a nice area with other stuff to do - mini golf, go carts, etc.
  11. Above and beyond the steriods stuff, Sosa DID get caught using a corked bat too. I just wrote an entire post on why Biggio to me isn't a HOF, he was just simply a slightly above average player for 20 years, so his overall numbers are ok, but how he really isn't worthy....only to have the site erase it when I submitted it. Ugh. I'll fill in the stats later, but something like a .280 average (only 4 seasons over 300) averaged about 15 HR a season At 2 relatively weak positions, made the All Star team only 7 times, not once in the last 8 years of his career 3 top ten MVP placing 4 Gold Gloves 1900 runs - 15th best all time He has over 3,000 hits and leads MLB in HBP...but if he had 61 less hits, would he be worthy? Doesn't seem like it to me. Nothing about that to me says one of the greatest players of his generation or a top player in the history of the game. I think he'll get in, but I don't really think he's worthy. Is he really any better than say Fred McGriff?
  12. Ellis has never been a good defender - he's an undersized 2 guard. And he does shoot a lot, but he can score, which is something this team was SORELY lacking last season. Considering we gave them Bogut - who is once again hurt, I'm not complaining much. Especially since we got Udoh in the deal and he's been a solid contributer as well. Ellis has a player option this offseason for like 12 million I think, so it's not entirely 100% he'll be a free agent. But if he does opt out, they won't bring him back - I assume they'd rather resign or match an offer for Jennings.
  13. Maybe this will be a game that brings them together. Down 17 after 3, in Chicago...the bench brings them back to win by 1. Even had some adversity at the end with a blatant no call on Ersan and then a turnover up one with 8 seconds left. But they held on for the win....impressive. Edit - Sorry, meant to add the down 27 with 3 min left in the third. Also, that missed foul on Ersan really made me mad, he got just drilled, you could see the marks on his arm/chest, no call and then we couldn't get the ball in there. Horribly bad missed call that could have cost us the game. This would have been an incredibly deflating loss after the comeback, glad it worked out in the end.
  14. My apologies, the Dalembert 3 came the possession before the Ellis 3. Down 2, Skiles called a timeout and whatever the play was, Dalembert wound up shooting a jumper with about 40 seconds left. How/why did this happen? The Ellis missed 3 I had no problems with. Sorry for the confusion.
  15. The problem was that when they were down 2, the guy that wound up shooting the jumper was Dalembert. Really? Why was he even on the floor? And why is he taking a shot to tie the game int he last 10 seconds? That was poor coaching. You can't have an offenseive liability on the floor when you MUST score to not lose.
  16. At the moment, no, he's not Upton or Bourn, but if he goes out there again this year and hit's .260 with 20+ HR, 40+ steals and great defense, his value is going to increase an awful lot. He may still not get the contract Bourn or Upton get but I don't think it's unreasonable for him to get pretty close to it. And if he's in the range and Hamilton is say 5-7 million a year more...it's not that crazy of a thought.
  17. I just don't buy what he's saying. That was the case initially, and it WOULD be the case again if they only had one or two during the year. But it's really not the case any more. When they started, every bobblehead game was a sellout. It's just not that way anymore. There were a few last year with less then 35k there - mainly due to who it was and the fact that people are just growing tired of them. I also HATE that every single one of them is on a Sunday. Why do that? With 10 bobbleheads, that would be HALF my 20 game package just to get them all. I want to come other days of the week - if it really did boost attendance that much, why not do some of them on weeknight games when crowds are tougher to get?
  18. I have a hard time believing Gomez will be back after this season unless he takes a team friendly deal. Unless something has changed, I believe he is a Boras client, and team friendly deals with him are about 1 in 1000. So your point about the future of Gomez and his contract vs Hamilton actually makes a lot of sense. You can keep them both this year still - there will be starts to go around as Hamilton has missed games, days off for guys and the PH/PR spots for Gomez. Then just let him leave after the season....
  19. Anyone have a picture they can post?
  20. I'm starting to get optimistic about this team, but lets see where they sit after these next few weeks. There next 10 games look like this: Hornets @ Charlotte @ Miami Chicago @ Chicago New York @ Minn Boston @ Hornets @ Spurs They go 5-5 or better through that and we may be on to something. So far they've just beaten up on some bad teams and beat Boston in a game where Boston shot about 35%.
  21. I don't have one but that sounds pretty cool. Didn't even realize they existed. Now I want one!
  22. The MLB network preview from last season, they interviewed him and made a reference to him as a speed guy or something like that and Hart himself said he wouldn't say that. That he's not as fast as he used to be. I don't think you need any numbers to back this up. Just watch him play compared to 5 years ago and it's quite apparent he's slowed down significantly.
  23. Seeing how the Rangers were his first choice, I'd say that eliminates them. He'll have many teams offering longer terms I'm sure. Still doesn't mean he'd come here but if his top choice is gone...who knows?
  24. While true, the other players also play defense and some goalies have scored goals as sell. Sure, goalies technically only play defense, as they rarely score or get involved in the offense, though they CAN if they want to. On top of that, the goalie never leaves the field and does nothing. His/her head is always in the game, it's hardly the same thing as me hitting, then not doing anything at all until my turn in the lineup comes up again.
  25. I would take it one step further and say they should crap or get off the pot. Pick one set of rules for both leagues and stick with it. Agreed. As much as I'm anti-DH, I wish they would just pick one set of rules and go with it. It makes such a difference in the game, in free agents (see Prince), etc.
