  1. AND, another strikeout. LET'S GO!! I BELIEVE!!!!!! Two down. Man on 2B.
  2. First out: A strikeout. This is what Whiting can do. He's a big swing-and-miss guy. He can do this. He can definitely get out of this. Let's go, young man. Dig deeeeeeep! One down. Man still on 2B.
  3. Gulp. He gives up a lead-off double. And we have a pinch runner aboard. Let's see if he can dig down deep for this one. Lead-off man on 2nd base. Nobody down. That's a tough position to be in.
  4. Oh baby. They are going with uber-talented UDFA (University of Utah) RHP Blake Whiting to try and close this Game 3 out - he last pitched August 19th. He has been stellar in his brief work and has tools for days. BUT, this will undoubtedly be his biggest moment as a young professional hurler.
  5. AND Barrios adds to the trifecta: Pratt came aboard on the error. And the Crew responded with three consecutive K's. Not the type of momentum you want to hand over to your pitching staff. 13 K on the evening in regulation innings for the young ACL Crew. They still lead 5-4 headed to the make-or-break bottom of the 9th.
  6. And...Bitoni also strikes out swinging. Johan Barrios will pinch hit for DH Satchell Norman (0-for-4, 3 K). The ACL Crew now have 12 K to the D-Backs 9. Lotta whiffs causing winds in the desert tonight.
  7. Baez strikes out swinging. One down. Pratt still on 1B. Bitoni to the dish. Currently 0-for-3, 1 BB, 2 K.
  8. Pratt leads off and reaches 1B on an error from the D-Backs Rojo SS. We have a man aboard, Houston. Let's give the D-Backs a problem.
  9. I don't know about you all, but I'm ready to watch one of these late night clips from Brewers PD: Let's. GO!
  10. The D-Backs start the top of the 9th with a mound visit. Pffffft. They can't get into our fearless youngsters' heads! Not on my (Gamecast) watch! OH NO! Top of the order is due up for the Crew: Pratt, Baez, and Bitoni. Couldn't ask for a more intriguing set of bats to try and add an insurance policy to this high-risk environment we are living in tonight, folks.
  11. CF Luis Medina got aboard with two down by ripping a two-bagger to RF but 1B Yeison Perez struck out swinging and the ACL Crew fall to 1-for-9 with RISP. They've now left 7 men on base. IF they should fall in these late innings they can look to their failure to add insurance runs. Let's hope the pitching can keep it together. 5-4 and we head to the D-Backs half of the 8th.
  12. Rodriguez gave his team 2 2/3 very solid scoreless innings - he'll be credited with an earned run but that was off the continued struggles of 10th rounder Morris Austin who has yet to find his footing in pro ball. Austin came to the hill with two down in the 7th and the ACL Crew clinging to a 5-2 lead. Situation: two down and a man on 1B. He walked his first batter. He then gave up a run-scoring double but the mighty play of RF Reece Walling and his relay to 1B Yeison Perez nabbed the runner out at home plate. Yeeeeeesh. 5-4 ACL Crew and we head to the top of the 8th frame.
  13. Boy, I think it's fair to say RHP Will Childers is going to want that Start back. Yikes. 4 1/3 IP, 12 H, 3 HR, 0 BB, 1 K, 8 ER. Lynchburg and Fredericksburg both won tight games today so they both gained a game back from yesterday. Mudcats are back to leading the second half by 2.0 G.
  14. And, I was just coming to opine the re-assignment of LHP Darrell Thompson, tho obviously not the desired result for his own career desires, could be huge for the maligned and inconsistent Shuckers bullpen as they push for the Playoffs. Coming into today, the Shuckers remain 1.0 GB of the Biscuits.
  15. Sheesh. That's incredible output. The early returns on the Royals 2023 7th Rdr are quite good...for the Royals.
  16. Seeing yet another fantastic defensive play in LF, Avina supporters know: all the early season focus on his K woes and sleepy bat (reasonably so) failed to see his overall game. Mentioned in yesterday's Minor League GT (HERE), Avina has maintained a positive high-effort intensity for his ballclub all season long. When he wasn't seeing the ball/pitches as well as he would have liked he still made plays like the above on many many occasions. In addition to his underrated range he also has a very worthy cannon of an arm. He has been a true 'Gamer': In all seriousness: is there a more lovable walk-off triumphant trot than Avina's in the entire Brewers system? I can't think of any.
  17. I don't know if the bid(s) came in late but OF Terence Doston surprises yet again leading all bids. Uncanny how he shows up everywhere.
  18. Ernesto Martinez Jr. has been playing winning baseball for quite awhile now and it is definitively one of the most stunning and pleasant surprises of 2023. Hitting the ground running and then some in the Southern League - essentially not skipping a single beat from High-A Wisconsin - is just the icing on the cake. It is hard to fathom how he turned his season and career around these past 3 months. But, here we are. Such an awesome 2023 storyline.
  19. Early in the season the strikeout woes were really imbalanced in a bad way but I still liked the swing. It seemed, to me, a seeing the ball and timing thing. What has never changed is his effort; his intensity; his defense; his arm; and his attitude. It has been awesome to witness his turnaround.
  20. Have a day Gregory Barrios! He stole Home to take the lead in the 7th on a double steal w Dylan O'Rae. Here in the 8th, he just hit his second double scoring Avina in the process. He then stole 3rd base and takes Home after a catching throwing error to 3B. He is willing his team to victory and I LOVE to see it! 9-4 Mudcats!
  21. Who other than INF's Dylan O'Rae and Jadher Areinamo to turn the tides. Both integral in reclaiming and extending the lead. Areinamo with a key two-run blast in the 8th extending the Mudcats lead 7-4! Let's GO! Our brief moment of Zen:
  22. And now Costello's Turn: He gives up a run-scoring triple in his first batter faced. It's 4-3 Columbia. Top of the 7th. The ongoing ugly bullpen work continues in Carolina. If I were Estevez, at this fragile point in the season, I honestly don't know who I'd trust in these late innings at present. The going is tough. The young men will simply have to find their resolve or risk losing our on another golden opportunity to break the 13-year post-season curse.
  23. And, it was Figueroa first who relieved Henderson with 2 down in the 6th. He gave up a first batter double but got out of it with a strikeout for the third out. After a three-up and three-down Mudcats bottom half, Figueroa just gave up a solo jack to tie it 3-3 in the 7th. The bullpen, once a huge strength for the Mudcats, is suddenly doing its best impression of the Shuckers. Let's get back to it, gents!
  24. INF Daniel Guilarte singles home INF Gregory Barrios (2B and advanced to 3rd on an O'Rae ground out to 2B). 3-2 Mudcats in the top of the 6th and Henderson is still slinging it. One down on a fly out to LF. With the recent bullpen meltdowns I wonder what manager Victor Estevez has up his sleeve today. Henderson's pitch count is approaching the 90's. I am thinking some combination(s) of Figueroa, Costello, and Rodriguez?
