It was a gracious and giving first inning for the Mudcats on behalf of the Wood Ducks - all batters stepped to the dish. Many walks were served. And a Luke Adams HBP and a Hedbert Perez walk plated 2. 2-0 Mudcats onto the 2nd. -
LHP Russ Smith gets his first start of 2023. LHP Adam Seminaris returns to Rocket City - a club that surely knows him quite well. RHP Adrian Houser gets his rehab outing #2 in the books tonight - let's keep an eye on his pitch count. And, we're TBD with Carolina at the formidable Down East Wood Ducks. Yeah, that's not probably not all that likely. It's very early in the season. I imagine the decision-makers are very aware of his progress and would like to see him accumulate more innings to get even further away from the TJ procedure of 2021. He's really a one inning guy at present. But, it is typically a fabulous inning in 2023. He's a really nice depth piece to have in the pipeline, however. He's been really good. -

I agree with you on the France pitch. Either way, for a guy with pretty much two pitches he absolutely has to execute better. I think what history reveals is: he's not really a set-up caliber guy. Which, well, that's a pickle.😅

Yeah, the solo shots don't bother me. That was a fine pitch too. Better swing from an uber-talented player. BUT, all this being said, as others have alluded to over the past couple days: he still gives up way too many long balls for a set-up man.

As to these trade package ideas, I personally think our best options for any short-term Burnes issues are to maximize what we already have. Treat Houser and Gasser as your piggy-backers. Houser needs to build up his innings - fine. Let him do it at the MLB level. Send down a field player in the short term. We have plenty of worthy bullpen arms we can work up and down, to boot. It's too early, by my book, with no diagnosis.
