  1. What a difference a Day makes. Lauer's turnaround since his Minors stint is just awesome. He put in the work, made the adjustments with the Staff's insights, and man he has just been solid. Hopefully we can take this Series and bump past 30 games over.
  2. Not quite yet, they’re 0-5 against the Phils coming into tonight. Better hope the Braves win the NL East... Tho we took the series, I felt the Braves played the Crew quite tough as well. It would appear the NL East is our Conference's AL Central. Yuck.
  3. This is a post directly descended from and approved by your chosen Forum name. Well played.
  4. Wheeler was that classic former Mets starter the Brewers were on the verge of trading for almost every month when Melvin was the GM. That whole trade scenario scene was quite the thing and quite contentious, I recall, in and amongst the fan community. He's having quite the season.
  5. I like it better when the Brewers win every game and their Aces pitch Lights Out. I think we need to call up sudden Phenom Darrien Miller to right this ship!
  6. FanGraphs had a pretty interesting article examining Seattle's clutch performance about a month ago... https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-mariners-are-trying-to-be-the-clutchiest-team-on-record-again/ This paragraph gives a nice tl,dr summation... What’s the driving force behind that high-leverage 135 wRC+? Some of it is good ol’ batted ball luck – the Mariners have the league’s third-worst BABIP in low leverage at .257 against a seventh-best .332 BABIP in high leverage. They also have a HR/FB rate of 11.9% in low leverage and a rate of 21.9% in high leverage; the latter is another league-leading figure. Their strikeout rate also goes down in high leverage moments. The Mariners have been more keen to make contact in crucial moments, and when they do succeed, it has generally led to good results. Something else to keep in mind is the FanGraphs Clutch metric is calculated with each player setting their own baseline, so having a 92 wRC+ as a team makes it easier for the Mariners to put up +7.66 Clutch than say a team like the Blue Jays who have a 111 wRC+ but are -5.11 Clutch. This bears out. I've been to a few Mariners games this season in Seattle and they definitely seem to rise to the occasion in Clutch moments. I'd look up and down the stat sheet and see those Brewers-esque mid May averages and, lo and behold, a game winning bases clearing hit or HR by Seager who is hitting for a crappy average this season. They're an interesting team moving forward here the next few seasons. Really like the Toro acquisition and they've rebounded from the Closer trade that caught the entire team off-guard (Dipoto hasn't been seen as a player friendly GM whatsoever). Side Bar: If you ever have a chance to go to a Mariners game, their ballpark is really quite wonderful. An extremely comfortable and enjoyable baseball game experience. Mod edit - please don't add special characters to avoid the cuss filter. Thanks!
  7. Sounds like he is starting a rehab assignment on Thursday. Well, here we go. Actual news beyond my guestimations. Lol. Thanks for the Update. That's awesome news.
  8. He was placed on the 10 Day w an Oblique on August 21st I recall? At the time, the news was the Brewers Medical staff thought a 3-4 week injury. I'd say he is going to be given time to heal proper and they will assess whether he'll be available for Playoff Bench Depth to get his legs and game back.
  9. Lotta catcher movement in Low and High A recently. Pretty interesting development in those lower Levels. Seems we have quite a stable there?
  10. Just when I think it can't get any worse for Keston...I just look at his last 60 AB's. Goodness gracious...I am speechless at the hitting funk he has plummeted into in 2021. It's hard to fathom. As to Darrien Miller: All we really know at present is he's had an unbelievable week at the Plate. Beyond that? I can't say much. He is still platooning and hasn't grabbed a hold of any mandatory playing time it would appear. I would hope with each successive big moment grabbed and achieved, he is climbing his way up the organizational chart but I think it's still a bit too early to tell.
  11. I have what the young ones refer to as ‘The Feels’. They are abundant. Let the Grand Salami replays commence!
  12. Absolutely. The thing I love about this? It will also ultimately bolster the entirety of the pitching staff come the (gulps) Playoffs. We get Freddy back on track? We can work Hauser, Lauer, Ashby, and Anderson into any combinations of Bullpen games. Sidebar question: what happened to our most maligned COVID List Atlanta Hotel Room sufferer from Pittsburgh Jandel Gustave? Is he back in AAA? Still out of commission? I thought we might have had something there in our limited exposure. He had some heat and he had some movement. He was just activated again today. He's here. Awesome. Thanks. Gotta think he can take Topa's spot? Is that feasible if Topa was a September call-up?
  13. Carolina with the ol' 3-21 score for the L column. Gulp. The Shorebirds were eating quite the feast off Mudcat pitching.

  15. He's always had the stuff to be a good MLB starter. Just needed to put the consistency together. Takes longer for some guys. Absolutely true. The past couple years we've seen flashes. You knew he had a multi-pitch toolkit...he just lacked any stacking of success. Such a wonderful thing to witness growth and evolution in any athlete - they put so much work into their craft. I expressly think back to a 3 game stint in August of 2019 when I thought: 'OK, this kid might turn a corner sometime.' I believe it was a STL, Washington, STL 3 game of effective starting pitching? His 2nd outing vs. the White Sox last year in the COVID hoopla. That was a good outing in an otherwise tough shortened season. I just, personally, never thought he'd actually find that consistency. Mr. Houser, I salute you.
  16. Man, re: Adames agrivating the hammy again...that's a real bummer. They didn't think it was serious before. I wonder if this is going to play out, for a spell, like Wong's calf?
  17. How under the radar good has Houser been this season? An amazing step in his career trajectory. Flabbergasted is a word I would use.
  18. It will be interesting to see how Miller closes out their season. He'll get more burn now that Zavier is up with the T-Rats. He was always seen as toolsy with that Lefty Bat. The original scouting report was contact hitter with upside to grow into power. He's had a good stretch here. He is fairly athletic for a Catcher but there were questions if he'd stay there. He still looks quite frail to me. Then again, he's only 20. We'll have to monitor going forward. Nice to see him have a hot spell tho after the missed COVID season.
  19. What a season. Just a colossal tip of the cap to Counsell and the coaching staff for righting the ship after that fairly unimpressive Start. 30 games over 0.500 is almost hard to believe. It was such a shame for Avi to experience that botched fly-ball in Milwaukee. That series was ours but for one freakish play at the Warning Track. Feels real real good to be up 3-0 with a chance at a Sweep tomorrow. Excited to be here and 'On Board' at this stage. Been reading this forum for yearssss and think I probably owe Mass Hass some tip monies for his work in the Minor League threads.
